Lester was a GREAT musician and a true Gentleman. I was fortunate enough to meet him and spend a short time in his company, something I regard as a great privilage and will do so untill the day I die.

He played hip stuff but was and is respected by LEGENDARY jazz musicians, not the case for bowie, listen to these and tell me what you think.

Lester Bowie was a horrible player! Wynton Marsalis said he was another trumpet player who never really could play. He might have been a nice or maybe even a smart guy but he was garbage. Thats why Cosby laughed @ 2:17.

@trumpetids whatever..... Wynton Marsalis is a nice dude, I really like him, but I would never take his judgement as the final say about anything. Cosby laughed because Lester had a sense of humour. There are enough of us out here who appreciates Lesters genius to negate anything Wynton might say. I think for myself. And I think Lester is more that Wyntons equal as a trumpter player

There are no good or bad players, there are the ones that speak to you personally and the ones that don't. It's all subjective. Music is just music. It has as much value as an individual places on it, no more and no less.
