Lester was a GREAT musician and a true Gentleman. I was fortunate enough to meet him and spend a short time in his company, something I regard as a great privilage and will do so untill the day I die.
@trumpetids stop posting negative comments on all Lester Bowie clips on youtube like a trolling prick. Unlike you , Bowie bought alot of joy to many with his music so just dissapear up your own bigoted asshole, btw Marsalis is a reactionary jazz idiot so he's brainwashed you too.
@trumpetids Dude what are you trying to prove? Oh I know, you think Lester Bowie is a horrible trumpet player and you think you can convince those of us who consider him GREAT to think as you do with examples of someone else. Not gonna work. I love Lester for what he does. Not for you heartless subjective assessment of his technique. If you don't like it, fine. I accept that. You should just accept the rest of us who love him will continue to come to our own decisions about this playing.
listen to freddie hubbard straight life(live performance) or first light (album version) on youtubehehas these minute long intros but when the music starts you know youre hearing something good. He played hip stuff but was and is respected by LEGENDARY jazz musicians, not the case for bowie, listen to these and tell me what you think.
Lester Bowie was a horrible player! Wynton Marsalis said he was another trumpet player who never really could play. He might have been a nice or maybe even a smart guy but he was garbage. Thats why Cosby laughed @ 2:17.
@trumpetids whatever..... Wynton Marsalis is a nice dude, I really like him, but I would never take his judgement as the final say about anything. Cosby laughed because Lester had a sense of humour. There are enough of us out here who appreciates Lesters genius to negate anything Wynton might say. I think for myself. And I think Lester is more that Wyntons equal as a trumpter player
@trumpetids To make absolute statements about the ability or value of certain players is a sign of ignorance. There are no good or bad players, there are the ones that speak to you personally and the ones that don't. It's all subjective. Music is just music. It has as much value as an individual places on it, no more and no less.
I was hoping for a better homage to the late Lester Bowie from Mr. Cosby, but who knows... apparently he wasn't much in touch with what was going on in modern jazz history...
He always looks so damn clean. Like a musical, soulful dentist or maybe, perhaps kind of like one of them North Korean missile launcher guys in those lab coats. I wonder if they would dig Lester if they weren't commies? But alas, they are... they are commies.
There ARE good and bad musicians! You on some music spiritual nonsense!

@trumpetids :
my fellow human, it takes alot of nincompoopness to classify one of the greatest players as horrible one.
I leave you to troll all on your own, untill a rock hits you again in the head and you wake up from your slumber.

Great comparison!
Cosby, you know, has Dizzy's trumpet. I wonder where Lester's horns are?
