I imagine the "realistic" path your talking about is the one that has a guy who heals with his hands, the world created in seven days, a snake that talks, and a bush that burns and, oh, talks. All religious paths and their interrelated mythologies are equally ridiculous, but they answer questions that science can't and fill an important purpose in many peoples lives. I have utmost respect for Jesus. I really don't think that he knew his followers would be like they are now in the U.S.
