  • groove!

Steve Jordan is best play on the drums!

  • reminds me instantly of "when the levee breaks" by zeppelin

  • This is pretty hot and heavy for a Cheryl Crow tune!

  • This is what I call 'drumming'.... It's exactly how I drum; with soul. Rock on!

  • @jrhager84 I'd like to hear some videos from you then.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX

I'm moving into a house, and as soon as I do, I plan on setting my drums back up and doing some vids.

  • Its all in the groove ......very nice!

  • what exactly is being inside the pocket?

  • @zRawki its right where you want it....so you dont have to worry bout it ; )

  • @doose80 thanks... :|

  • He has te groove inside his pocket, he plays the groove like that because he has incorporated it in his organism, that's what all the drummers should search, he's fucking awesome because he plays with the heart, he plays it with feeling.

  • @metalsoul96Agree!

     Like purdy does.

  • this sounds like the exact same beat he uses with John Mayer Trio record for something's missing.

  • @blues970123

Yeah, this just sounds sped up more, but same overall feel.

  • Steve like most great drummers is great all-around musician, not only is he a top notch Groove, Jazz, Blues & R&B drummer but he can also rock !! this is very rare in my experience, if you like Steve make sure you check out Yogi Horton's interview pieces along with Bernard Purdie,Steve Gadd & Rick Marrota if you are not listening to the music & melody you can NEVER be a great drummer.

  • hes rocking the shit out of the hit hat, love it.

  • just my opinion =) =) =) vinnie colaiuta - Groove:solid, tight, tasty, steady, and he entered the top sessions and worked with the primary artist off his time in any style.rock.pop.rnb.jazz fusion latin.etc....but he know how to do solos.odd times soling with catching figures.and many to mention.so groove is just a part of our musical journey,so let us dont be limited and one sided, in life situation,as a human being.dont focus on walking only.learn how to run, jump, eat, sleep and talk.

  • Listen to those cymbals! Listen to that snare!!....Listen to that groove!!!!!!!!! WOW

I am ordering that DVD today!!!

  • I wish I had Steve Jordan on my tracks, groovy

  • I posted Steve Jordan Pick Hits for all the fans of Steve Jordan, John Scofield Electric Outlet album!!

  • Oh my God, those ghost notes on the snare....simply amazing!

  • Mega Groove , wow .... a master of ghostnotes

  • when the levee breaks what?

  • i listen to somethings missing just to hear this groove over and over.

  • Pretty much the same groove as in "Waiting on the World to Change"

  • i wish i had a 7 or 8 inch deep snare like his, but I love my 68' aluminum Acrolite

  • So awesome. There is a bit of shuffle in there, like 30%.... amazing

  • @benpruessdrummer I like your percentage... Never though of it that way. And I agree.

  • What's the song this groove was in?

  • Ok. Let's not get carried away shall we! Nice simple groove with a good pocket. But let's not mention Bonham and Weckl.......

  • @Icynene Its locking into the perfect groove ... and sitting on it...!!

  • FEEL THE GROOVE!!!!!!!

  • sounds great, I hear questlove's influence from 94 album "do you want more" particularily the song "distortion to static"

  • I would disagree that this is for young insecure set of viewers, not everybody in the world is looking to play things like thrice and system of a down, which is just one or two rudiments places over the drum set. Eventually the punk rock world grows up and begins things like jazz and "less notes more space and taste" playing every playable note doesnt mean more complex

  • I would disagree that this is for young insecure set of viewers, not everybody in the world is looking to play things like thrice and system of a down, which is just one or two rudiments places over the drum set. • "Steve McQueen" groove from Sheryl Crow!! Killer stuff by Mr. Jordan as well. He plays along with a loop to this song. New jacks need to see & hear this NOW!!

    Enjoy!!

  • when the levee breaks from led zeppelin has a similar groove!

    but he plays it amazingly!

  • @mariorossipuzza I agree though no one plays like bonham

  • Anyone else hear a funkified "When the Levee Breaks" groove here? Sweet.

  • @mother66 12/8 ... gotta love it!!

  • See everybody...the chops get you on YouTube...the pocket gets you on gigs...don't get it twisted

  • @hollerlwb lolz

  • @hollerlwb Same thing with Les Claypool style bassists. Victor Wooten has chops and is nasty, but Larry Graham is a groove monster.

  • @hollerlwb more enjoyable to play a groove rather than wank your chops everywhere too.

  • It's 8th and the flams are very John Bonham like.

  • I believe listening to and learning to apply what mr. jordan is doing in this clip can improve anyone's playing. Steve is an inspiration to me as a young drummer, and I can only hope to have half the feel that he does.

  • i have a snare just like that does anybody know how he tunes his drumheads in relationship to each other...o and what song by sheryl crow this is

  • All that talent wasted on Sheryl Barbie Doll Crow?! aaagh God help us!!!

  • and this guy's 53 years old!!

  • this brotha ain't no joke!!!

  • @cgord37 he ain't no joke he used to let the groove smoke, now he slams it when he's done to make sure its broke.

  • @hexadecim8 right on!

  • @hexadecim8 :D solid!

  • @hexadecim8 lolol. funny!!!! but true!!!

  • Get out your samplers

  • He may have the best sounding signature snare out there.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC ...its a good one , no doubt about that ... but have you heard the Stanton Moore Titanium Snare Drum ..... expensive , like 900 bucks or something but to my ear it is the best sounding snare drum I have ever heard

  • No, I don't think I have. If it comes from Stanton, I'd be willing to bet it sounds good.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC .... go to memphis drum ...they have one of those videos showcasing it

  • Great, thank you. I'll check it out. Those snare can get almost too pricey. I think Weckl's is like eighteen hundred.

  • a bonham groove!!!

  • any1 hear When the Levee Breaks sped up? even w/the cymbals and kick

  • @Icynene i couldn't agree more with you. I'm a 17 drummer so I witness the "unnecessary" drumming by my musician friends. At an early age my music teacher instilled in me that the drummer's purpose is to play within the music, not make your own.

  • thats the same groove from john mayer's "something's missing," i believe

  • I listen to alot of metal, and although its fun to watch how fast drummers get, they don't have the feel or soul that this guys has. His playing has alot of musicality to it and it grooves along.

  • Where can I find this Sheryl Crow song?

  • Sounds like 'Sheryl Crow - Steve McQueen'

  • Well sure, most of the drummers on youtube can do this beat, but can they do it with as much feel and style like steve jordan? I think NOt...

  • and would they think of it in the first place? the thing about artist like steve is how they can make the perfect part for every song.

  • Solid groove!!! Respect for Steve!

  • If PATAFLAFLA knew anything about drums/music, he would know that technicality or dynamics are not what make this phenomonal. Steve has a feel that is so nice that no drum machine or person could ever recreate what he plays. Drumming isn't about playing your slickest flam lick at 400 bpm, its about putting your heart and soul in to the groove and respecting the music. I'm 20 and I know that.

  • Damn, you said that so well. Jordan is the antithesis of the "hey-look-what-I-can-do" drummer. He's the "let's use the drum set as a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT" kind of drummer. Of course it goes without saying that he still has a hell of a lot of technical skill anyway!

  • Im 17 and know that. Oh, and you forgot to say "Steve and Steve have a feel..." ;) (Steve Gadd)

  • @NDiesel31 @Pataflafla, just remember -- Practice entitles you to confidence, not arrogance -- being confident and EASY TO WORK WITH gets you gigs, not being a cocky fuck. if you really meant what you said about Steve's video, youre completely missing the point of playing drums in a band.

  • @NDiesel31 So true man - great to see that subtle truths are not lost on young people.

  • @NDiesel31 50 THUMBS UP!

  • @NDiesel31 "or person could ever"

    Say what?

  • Comment removed

  • @NDiesel31 I feel the same way... I think what makes a good drummer is their ability to groove and keep a steady and solid rhythm: not the fact that their chops are super incredible because I've met far too many drummers with great chops who can't play in the pocket.

  • @NDiesel31 well put. iv played set and marching, and while ramin in notes in fun on a kevlar head, not always the case on a kit. drum beat played on a music program sounds boring, same beat played by steve i can listen to forever

  • @NDiesel31 I'm 16 and have to know that :P

  • @NDiesel31 It's

about making music on the drums.

  • @NDiesel31 Amen !

  • Dude....this isn't a shuffle...just cuz you ghost the snare doesn't make it a shuffle...the "shuffle" is the beat that you would find under SRV's Pride and Joy.....steve played with clapton earlier in his career and clapton used the shuffle a lot...this is just pocket groove son...Steve Jordan is one of the best at it too!!!

  • @chocolatemilkeater This is a 16th shuffle, even if Steve isn't playing many triplets.

  • if thats the case, get off ur ass & b a professional drummer like him.

    no disrespect intended

  • Im in the process mate. No disrespect . I expect to get comments like that , it is awful cocky ;)

  • well i'll surely rate ur vids when i c em! good luck!

  • @PATAFLAFA .... two years ..... you little boy .... you still measuring yourself by how long you have been playing ?

Wake up young man ... . Your pataflafa`s have nothing to do with making a drumset come alive and you can only dream about playing drumset as well as Steve Jordan .

  • when in doubt.

    steve jordan

  • BONHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @golluba

Very reminiscent of Bonham. I grew up with Zeppelin, but stupidly tried to start by playing along to recordings of Emerson Lake and Palmer first.

I've been playing along to "Dancing Days" and "When the Levee Breaks" on my iPod lately. Fun stuff.

  • The "shuffle", which is what this is, is earlier than Bonham. Benard Purdy (famed Motown drummer) has probably the most copied shuffle technique. Both Bonham (R.I.P) and Porcaro (R.I.P) were influenced by Purdy. The feel of the snare ghosting, is the hardest part to cop. Keith Carlock has an amazing snare ghosting technique.

  • @bourgeoisbrats

Yes, the Purdy Shuffle predates Bonham's playing of the shuffle (Fool in the Rain) but Bonham predates Jordan.

    Carlock is great to watch.

  • @bourgeoisbrats That is not a shuffle at all.

  • @bourgeoisbrats .... man , this is not a shuffle .... not even close

  • Comment removed

  • He's the man! Mega.

  • Sick groove

  • killin' groove!

SJ is so talented and so humble, much respect.

it's the phrase, "just sit in the pocket" that makes me wanna play for hours, thanks for that Steve!

    ~lox

  • Bonham style, its ok

  • ok?

    ok?

    *slap*

  • simply divine. spiritual.

  • ..what song is this by Sheryl Crow?

  • By the way I totally agree with schippo69 ; If your watching this vidéo, it's no question that you are a good person! LOL!

  • Incredebly fat. Really. I think it's one of the closest grooves to Bonham I 've heard.

  • It's so refreshing to find a drum video with only little green + signs besides all the comments and no pointless argumentative garbage..

Then again if your searching up a steve jordan video it definitely makes clear the fact that you have good taste in music :)

  • Steve jordan es el rey del GROOVE!!!!!

  • feeling it

  • perfected simplicity!

    I love it!

  • one of the best drummers

  • Steve Jordan es el Joe Satriani de la bateria!!! Mucho mejor que cualkier metalero tipo Joey Jordison o Dave Lombardo... (y eso q soy fan)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Jordan is the Joe Satriani of the Drums. He is better than any metalhead like Joey Jordison or Dave Lombardo! (and i am a metal fan...)

  • I don't know, man. To me, Satriani and Jordan are complete opposites. I think Steve Jordan is more like the Stevie Ray Vaughan of drums.

  • The pocket is way to solid

  • man.. sometimes after watching blazing drummers for a while you just feel the need to listen to some pocket.. wish this video was longer

  • steve mcqueen?

  • The cymbals play a melody, pretty cool

  • One of the best, indeed.

  • Everyone wants to play like Steve. :)

  • he has the fatest snare sounds of anyone

  • Para mi gusto personal steve jordan tiene el mejor sonido!!!

  • ok thanks i get it ;)

  • "simplicity is not stupidity", but his ryhmes are full of ghostnotes and stuff, that is not simple is it?

  • There are not THAT many ghost notes going on . Certainly not like a Jo Jo Meyer or Dave Weckl . Besides , what matters is the kick and the snare . Listen to how loud he plays on them .

  • That;s true!

Take a look at the John Mayer Trio - vultures Live in LA I thinks Jordan means kind of that!

  • Its simple enough for him :D

  • nice groove

  • i love his theory of playing..."Simplisity is not stupidity" thats the way to go

  • I disagree that there is a THE way to go. But I do agree that it is a respectable route to go which many complexity-obsessed musicians tend to bash for no reason. But on the other side of the spectrum, there are many people who prefer simplicity who then dismiss EVERYTHING that is complex. There is good and bad music on both sides of the spectrum, which shows that it's not about how simple or complex music is or ISN'T. All that matters is that is sounds good.

  • I think that vinnienickoloff90 saying that when people play simply, i.e simple grooves for example, its not because they lack the knowledge or technicality, its purely due to the fact that they prefer a simple groove

  • I know, I didn't really say he said that (or mean to imply it if I accidentally did), I just questioned the choice of the phrase "THE way to go"

  • Yeah i totally agree with what, i can see the angle your comment came from : )

  • My god, do i agree.

  • man i love his kit - simple and vintage. are those paiste traditionals? i saw a clip of him playing with paistes in the john mayer trio band in concert.

  • Yeah man, he's all about the traditionals & 2002's. He usually uses two 17" Traditional thin crashes for hats. Perfect blend of dark and trashy.

  • he also plays a very similar beat to something's missing on the john mayer trio album.. i love hearing him play

  • Wow!

SJ looks different. Sure glad his snare sound has matured.

  • feels like it's in between straight and swung.

  • what track is he playing ?

  • I believe Sheryl Crow's "Steve McQueen"

  • million doller groove

  • thanks to John Bonham

  • aw hell yes thats what i thought about 2 seconds in.....

Jordan is awesome. Bonzo would be proud after all the glam shite that came around during and after him.
