i got beter idea for this ..i tested it in my home..take telescop to dark room shut blinds but..make some smal lhole for telecop..in that hole put ur telescop and look on sun..but now.. this wiev what u got on paper put on ur room roof..sun light is so extreamly storng so u not losing quality of light and any disturbrance will not make problems..in this way i will have sun 500 times biger and with same or better quality than on ur paper
what u see is not the sun but the light it creates sun is very far away from earth u struggle to see venus. dont confuse that because the sun is big all the telescopes will show it like it is in real
question, what if you want to look at something at the daylight like accross the road with a small telescope or the sky, but not the sun can you get eye damage
Perhaps, but then if it is not harmful to your eyes, then being able to view the sun kinda makes it worth it. After all, you can always buy a new eyepiece.
@SaturnAndItsRings I have spent about that much on games that I did not like after playing them. Suffice it to say, I got nothing out of the games. Being able to look at the actual sun close-up like that would be worth every penny. Especially since I have done it before with no damage. This tells me that it can few done at least a few times before having to replace the lens. I guess it just depends on what you would define as "worth it". For me, no price is really too great if I get what I want.
Maybe I'm the one who is missing something? Why can you not just create a filtered lens cover for your telescope? I have done this once. I took two lenses out of a pair of kids sunglasses and created a solar filter cap. It was good for seeing prominence coming off the sun. My telescope was ok. I can see just fine. What am I missing here? What is the big deal? This method is also good for viewing solar eclipses.
I know a billion of people have mentioned this but it can damage ur eye piece if u do it too long. I did it for a short amount of time and it was cool. Just don't do it too long.
even doing what you did to view the sun is not safe. your eyepiece will melt fast. do not try this method either. just by a solar filter. its the best and safest way. dont ruin your eyepieces and especially do not blind yourself.
Yes I learned the hard way I did look at the sun for like 2 secs it was nasty and it make me a little blind good thing it was from a cheap department store made out of cheap plastic if it was glass I would problaly be blind ny now lol. I bought a new telescope though for beginners. A quality one this time lol a reflector 900mm and 5.1 inches for the aparture. Im starting into astronomy. Besides that. I looked at the sun with the cheap one again in the afternoon it was cool i saw sunspots.
This is what we did as children with a magnifying glass. My grandson loves to do it with a plant pot and a piece of paper. Great isn't it to teach about nature
take your lens out next time and give it a rest every few minutes to keep from permanant damage to the inside of your nice i bet expensive Orion telescope.
where do they sell or how can I get new eyes for my head?

SoccerRocks1214 9 months ago
Any magnification + the sunlight = a blow torch, you wouldn't want to blow away your eyes.

Isn't it dangerous fot the optics of the telescope to point it to the Sun? I have made some video today, but using astrosolar.

Use a sun filter to protect your eyes from being damaged.

You'd have thought so, but i couldn't really tell any difference when looking at the heavens.
And the worst part out of all of it was that i read how to do this from a Patrick Moore book.
Can you believe???
