Yes, they really are! At least when they're very young like this and they are trying to learn how to catch prey and fly, etc. When they're adults they don't really do that much during the day but you can certainly hear them at night. Then when they have babies they're busy catching food for them all day and night.
I had to check out the Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Thanks! Looks like some great books. Although I haven't read them, I'll bet you're right. The name "Digger" would go with burrowing owls They're the only owls that dig their homes. I think I might name one of the kids that, I'm always looking for tips.
They sure are funny. I'm waiting (not so) patiently for a new bunch of babies to emerge from the burrow. I just love watching them learn, they are so comical especially when young like in my videos. The suspense is killing me. Should be any day now.
I have to agree with you. Although I think I'm bias because they're right in my yard. Looks like they're in the process of nesting, I'm expecting babies again in about a month. yeah me!!! Hope to get better videos.
Right at about ten seconds there when it flops over... that is heart-meltingly adorable.

Burrowing Owls seem to be the most curious. Deep thinkers.

I know, they'd practice on whatever they found. Attack it like prey. I think they'd also watch me to see if I was watching them show off.
