Much respect to you for your talent and obvious passion in playing.

    Thanks for making me smile!

  • You never missed a beat !!

  • You have a SERIOUS talent! This is one of the best drum covers on youtube, this is in Danny Seraphine's league, it kind of sounds like John Bonham too... this is what youtube is for... sharing things of this nature. Thanks.

  • pure groove, the triplet at 3:49 put it over the top for me.

  • This isnt just an awesome job. It is seriously a masterpiece in a basement. I know Im being melodramatic, but I just ahave a good passion for percussion. ;)

  • Dude you sound just like Danny Seraphine, And you sort of look like him too! Nice Ludwigs by the way.

  • Holy crap thats a wicked nice old ludwig. How does it sound in person? Nowadays, they either song amazing if their in good shape or horrible. I like it man, great job covering i can tell you really feel it in your bonesss

  • Good job!

  • Awesome job!!! I hope you take requests..How about some Edgar Winters Frankenstein or uncle Ted's Stranglehold! Rock on bro.

  • Nice sounding crash cymbal.

    I think it's K Zildjian cuz i saw K on it.

    Please which series of K.

    Thanks!

  • Awesome man! Tight in the pocket! Loved your fresh take on it. You'd better get back into drumming, cause you got lots to say.

  • That was a "loose cover"?

Seemed pretty darned spot on to me.

    Great job!

You also have a excellent selection of cymbals there as well.

Thanks for the post of a great tune and great skills.

  • All of you are very kind, thanks so much for the nice words...

  • Man, I haven't been checking you out for far too long! Can't say much, but you're the man! ;) Great cover.

  • I saw Chicago In 1979 in Central park NY city you just brought back some cool times...you played that tune with great feel..keep on playing till you die,,Jan the druman

  • you played that song preety dam good dude

  • Nice rendition. Do you have a video from an above shot? It would really show how much work this piece involves.

  • Wow! I was blown away! Do you give lessons!

    Incredible! Quit the day job!

  • Do you use traditional sticking or match?

  • I thought you were the drummer for Chicago. World class drummer here.

  • Amazing cover man. Im 14 and listen to a lot of punk rock but i appreciate all types of music and love chicago.

  • damn dude!

  • You guys are are all great, thanks for the kind words. And yea! this tune is a classic...

  • Yeah!!! What a way to sharpen the chops!!!! Play'in to one of the Greatest Innovative geniuses to ever pick-up a pair of sticks; of course I speak of Mr. Danny Seraphine. Thoroughly enjoyed your crispness and punchiness to your groove. Ludwig is an excellent kit, i own a 67' set, the first year they came out with dual toms on the kick. I once sang lead and played drums for a 7 piece group that covered all the groups with brass, i always had an affinity for CTA. Thanks for sharing your talent!

  • you have great taste in music i must say, very nice, i'm digging your set, chicago is so fun to play with

  • Danny Seraphine is a good guy to keep the joints oiled up after not being on the road that long eh?

Good job dude...I learned the drums from listening to Chicago back in the 70's and he's still one of my favorite...

  • Brilliant, great drumming, your talented, and the kit is superb!!

  • Very kind of you...thank you man...

  • Great kit! Great cover! love you videos

  • I apprecaite it man...thanks.

  • Nice job with this song! I think you sound great!! From a fellow 51 yr. old...keep it up!

  • Thanks my man! I appreciate it...:)

  • hey lowflyer havent seen u in a while, not playin anymore or just not recording??

  • Hey man....still around, not recording lately. Layed off for a few months...so busy with life (not complaining, it just is what it is). Starting back up occasionally...got a new monster blister on my thumb. haha....Anyway, nice to hear from you. Keep on drummin' yourself my man....

  • thats a nice ludwig...

  • Thanks man...

  • Pretty darn nice. Great cover fills. You're like a metronome as well. I couldn't see you so I couldn't tell if you had headsets or not.

  • Thanks man...I have an old set of headphones on that are not plugged in...because the P.A. system plus my extremely LOUD playing and the concrete basement (haven't gotten around to hanging blankets, etc.)...the compressed sound pressure can really wipe out my already damaged ears from years of stage. So the phones tone down the P.A. and the brightness of the drums and when it gets to my ears it all sounds deeper and with more balls...so it feels good to play. Anyway, thanks for listening....

  • your do have talent!

  • Thanks man...

  • yo..man... nice vid... oh man thats awesome for 18yrs away.. .like u said . there's nothing more beautiful as performing before the croud and the beats sorouding ya... how old are ya anyway?...

  • Too damn old! :) Turning 50 next month...

  • Very nice...I can barely tell you've been out of it for that long!

  • Thanks!

  • Where are you ???

  • Hey bro again very nice your the best!!!

Can u make a green day cover?

american idiot , when i come around or so would be awsome!

  • Had to stop in again...! You certainly do a 1970's Chicago & Danny Seraphine style very proud!!! If I had one request, it would be to hear you do a little Blood Sweat & Tears...? I'm also curious to know what you do to capture your drums with the songs... How many mics tracks etc.

    Keep on fly'in them sticks!!!!!

  • Do "And When I Die" !

  • That's a great suggestion Medic83301! Whatever you do though, do not post any PRINCE songs because they just might be "owned" by UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING & youtube will then MUTE the music in the video as was done to one of my homemade 1980's air-performances to Prince's "1999" song. Now I'm starting to realize why I hate any music "OWNED" by corporations. I wonder if this happens to Musicians playing along to the song or just fans acting like their performing their favorite artist's songs?

  • Blood Sweat and Tears, one of my all time favorites. I'll keep them in mind for future...as for the sound capture, believe it or not, it's just the condensor mike on the front of the camcorder. I hit pretty damn hard, so the sound makes its way in ok with the music in the background. hey thanks for listening man...:)

  • Nice Job. I would suggest that some day you purchase some cymbals. lol God Bless.

  • You should teach Chicago's current drummer Tris Imboden how to do this song. Mr. Imboden drums in a standard and homegenized fashion (like a basic drum machine), and lacks the style and flare of Chicago's original drummer Danny Seraphine. Since your are able to duplicate Seraphine's style with ease, you should try out for Chicago sometime (or start a Chicago cover band).

  • love the vid! who'd you travel with? or were you just touring with road musicians and doing random gigs?

  • A new raw freshness to a classic, thank you.

    Ram on,

    Joe.

  • yes!!! awsome fill 1:06...and i epecially love the ludwig!...70's?

  • And thanks to you too, for your very kind words. Yes, they're 1971's actually, except for the 1 1/2 Supraphonic...that's only a couple years old. Hey man, thanks for stopping by...& thanks for listening...:)

  • NIce job! Way to stay on the click. You kept good time. How long have you been playing? Do you practice on a pad at all? You have good speed w/ your stickings.

  • Dude awesome stuff. I'm jealous!!! nice kit too. Very good.

  • Thanks my man, I appreciate it. Drums say thanks too...:) Well, if they could talk, I'm certain that's what they'd say :)...Take care...

  • You don't look like you've changed a bit. Then again, that's basicly all I can remember of you: slivers of a head behind a forest of drums. I guess I wouldn't know if you've changed or not...;)

  • Hahaha.......if you only knew....the ravages of time excuse no man from its iron embrace. :)

  • Fricken enjoyed the hell outta that Chicago! Get those drums out of the basement!!! Your too good a drummer not be throwing down with the world! Thanks for sharing the vid! It's an inspiration for me to get up off my ass & go in the back room to knock some dust off my pearls! Serious...!

  • Very kind of you, thank you. Yes that could be very cool, getting back into it at a small level, a Friday or Saturday night locally here or there...and YES...get those Pearls out! Pearl is excellent.......and thanks again for all the kind words, I appreciate it. Take care my man...:)

  • Great job... With the Cream reunion already 3 years in the past! how about some Ginger Baker?

  • It's nice to see someone simply nail a tune, and play with authority!

Solid groove, dynamics, tight chops ,,,,5/5

I'm new to this cyber world.

    drumin8or

  • Thanks my man, I appreciate the kind words, especially coming from such an accomplished drummer as yourself. Punching it out is something you and I both are into. Right on! Thanks again man...

  • I could probably almost guarantee that the most harsh comments come from people who can barely play the radio.

    That was awesome!

  • :) Thanks my man, I appreciate it. Yeah luckily I don't get much of it, but sometimes I see people going to a young guy or a child just starting out, and they shred them. It bothers me to see a kid getting treated that way...so I always give them a really encouraging comment...because that's what people need, not a bunch of insults. Hey, thanks for stopping by...:)

  • nice

  • Hey Adam....:) Thanks my man for checking it out. Still not like Vadrum, but.........different. :) Hey, thanks again my man...take care...

  • Love it! I had the absolute pleasure of opening for Chicago a year or so ago with my band - it was a blast! They were awesome - and so are you my friend!

  • Wow...that HAD to have been an extreme trip! Your drumming is awesome as well my friend...Coming from you, I'm very honored. Thanks my man...thanks.:)

  • Talking about tight! That was right in the pocket my friend! Excellent stick control!

I enjoyed this one very much! Check out my drum/bass split screen collaboration of Kansas Carry on Wayward Son!

  • Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it. And yes, I went and listened...sounded great. I also accepted it as the video response to this vid, but for some reason YT lost track of or some crap. If you send again, I'll try accepting it again & see if it works...or I guess it could be just delayed or something. Anyway, try it again...

  • I love your smoothness at the end!

I need to work on that personally lol. You just tackle those rolls so softly like there nothing. :D

    Another great Job! 5 Stars!

  • Hey my man...I appreciate the kind words again. And don't worry, the chops you're developing...you're headed for the same comfort zone with smoothness, etc. Just keep banging away at it, and play to as much music as you can. Take care my man..:)

  • I added this video to my favourites to help promote what exceptional drumming is all about. Good drumming like this adds much colour and shine to a song....through drum rolls, fills, flares, cymbals, and rhythm. This is a very good educational example of showcase drumming.

  • Well that was a very, very kind thing to say, and I'm grateful you see it that way. I appreciate such gracious words, and I thank you for stopping by to listen. Thanks my man, thanks very much...:)

  • Another great cover my friend :-)

You are playing heel-down on this one right? (Sorry, I can't tell from here)

I just loved your syncopation starting at 00:28 and your buzz roll at 00:49... the finest old-school style I've heard on Youtube.

    Good stuff!!!

  • I appreciate it, thanks for the kind words. Actually I'm playing heel slightly up, I appreciate how closely you're listening...I do the same thing. Anyway, thanks again for such kind words...and thanks again for stopping by...take care...:)

  • You're welcome... you should some day film yourself from the side so we can see your hand technique. Please share with us my man :-)

By the way... those are all-maple shells, right?

  • Yes, I believe they're all maple under the wrap. And yes, I need to shoot some vids from the back/side. The first ones I did were like that, but the side view of my old belly kinda bummed me out. HAHA...but in the long run, who cares, huh? Hey my friend, thanks for stopping by...:)

  • This is fantastic drumming...it is clear you are a seasoned pro. Great drum flares and cymbal work. You should use your experience and talent to teach others how to drum. Pass down the craft to the next generation so that it is not lost. Congratulations on a very entertaining video.

  • These are very kind things to say, and I appreciate them. I used to teach a long time ago, considered it lately. Anyway, thanks again for being so kind, and thanks for listening...take care...:)

  • Hi again...:) Oh, a pretty long time, with about an 18 year gap there where I didn't play at all. Won't do that again, I got so far out of practice, it took months to get it back. Anyway, thanks again for the kind words...:)

  • I was old enough to see them at the Filmore East as CTA......your cover was exceptional.

    Nice job!

  • Wow, Chicago Transit Authority, that's back there! And that's very kind of you to say...I appreciate it, even though whenever I hear Danny's version, he's just so snappy and tight, high pitched tuning...he'll always own this song. :) Thanks for your very gracious compliment. Take care...:)

  • Huge Chicago fan since the early 70s. I've listened to Danny in the headphones in stereo hundreds maybe even thousands of times.

I have no complaint with your drumming. Very exciting to hear it so loud and clear.

    Awesome!

  • Thanks my man.....yes, when I listen to Danny S. playing this...he sounds so pitched and snappy & mine sounds heavy and thick to me. Danny obviously owns this song...:) My covers are always pretty loose and inexact, sort of my own feel. Anyway...I appreciate your visit, thanks and stop by again. Take care...:)

  • Hey Jonathan! I've watched this video quite a few times and I must say this is the best cover I have ever heard. Your quite an amazing drummer, I luv it! ttyl, Trish

  • That's an extremely nice thing to say to me, and I appreciate it. It's such a spirited song, sort of made for a drummer. Anyway, do I know you...our channels are already friends...where did we run into each other before? Take care Trish...

  • super cool.....havn`t played pro since 1978

i too am thinking of gigging around for fun

but with electic drums to save my back...ha!! ha !!

    keep it up

    oz

  • I know what you mean........:) If the feel moves you to do it....yes, do it. I hope you do, then maybe I'll get off my duff and do it too! Peace! :)

  • we played this in my middle school band last year 7th and 8th grade and blew the socks off everyone in the high school!

  • Right on! This has always been an excellent song...classic Chicago. Hey, thanks for watching and stopping by! :)

  • Awsome. Now that I've retired from a real job and miss the rock I played part time years ago I'm considering setting up a studio in a spare bedroom. Can you offer some suggestions as to electronic set up. CD player, speakers, head set configuration, etc Thanks

  • Hey there, and thanks...:) Not too familiar with electronic setups, other than the fact that I'd love to have one in addition to my acoustics. :) Best thing would be to do some google searches on the internet and/or talk to someone where they sell them. Be prepared that it won't be too cheap. Good luck! And thanks for stopping by...:)

  • Man, I can't get over how good you play this! Personally I think you played it better than Danny himself... Great job man

  • :) That's so kind of you to say...I appreciate it Jimbob. I don't know, when I hear Danny's version, he sounds so tight and snappy to me...I realize how he'll always own the song. :) You're very kind, thanks again my man...take care.

  • That's some good plying there man! Great choice of song too

  • great cover. i havent even heard the original song but u made it sound pretty appealing.

  • Hey and hey to India! Thanks for the kind words...especially if you haven't heard the song before. I tried to do it justice...but anyway, thanks again, and thanks for stopping by...:)

  • awsome kit!, very nice playing as well, what kind of cymbals do u use?

  • Thanks very much...I appreciate it. The cymbals are sort of mixed...Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, and World Percussion. You can see exactly what's there in my Drum Tour Part 1 and 2 if you like. Hey, thanks for watching...

  • Nice kit and brilliant tight drumming!!! Tell me which band wouldnt take this man on the road with them?!!! Dudes like this are rare!!! Keep it up man and post somemore ...Im lovin it!!!

  • u rock, brother! I understand the song better listening to you. When i learn the guitar, im going to play this and jam with you! Its interesting at moments you do some cool interaction with the guitar solo. AWESOME!!!

  • Thanks brother...it's interesting you say that...I've always tended to key in on guitar parts without consciously intending it. Good ear my man, and thanks for watching, stop by anytime. :)

  • Niiiice!

  • Thaaaaanks! :) Seriously, I appreciate it, and thanks for watching...:)

  • Nicely done. I can never seem to nail that little snare/tom lick at 0:49 just before the vocals come in. You're very good.

  • Hey Ultra...thanks for the kind words. Danny Seraphine really owns this song, my cover is sort of loose, my own interpretation. Even the lick you're talking about is a little different from the real one...but anyway, I appreciate it, and thanks for watching...:)

  • Danny Seraphine would be proud to see his parts done justice! killer job!

  • Holy Shit, Dude!!! You are f'ing AMAZING!!! That is one of my favorite songs and you nailed it!!!! You RULE!!!!

  • Wow what a day, you guys are very kind, and I appreciate it more than you know. Thanks, my man, for watching...& I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

  • Wowza brah your pretty damn good. REALLY damn good actually

  • WOW!! Awesome!!

  • :) You're very kind. Thanks very much and thanks for watching...:)

  • How sad that someone as talented as you isn't out with some big band somewhere playing every week! Thank goodness for YOUTUBE! Loved watching you play- you are a great drummer :)

  • You're so kind. You can't possibly know how much that means coming from such a talented musician like you. Thank you for visiting my channel & saying hey. :) You made my day. :)

  • you have a sweet kit, pretty good drumming too

  • Thanks...and my set thanks you too. :)

  • lol

  • Good job buddy. Great choice in song.

  • I appreciate it my man...yeah, what a song...almost anyone recognizes it; Chicago has always been one of a kind. Thanks kindly for watching...:)

  • Just subscribed to your stuff. Good job on this and the others. You ought to be giggin' at least on a part time basis anyway. I'd be proud to share a stage with you. Where do you live?

    Michael

  • Very kind of you to say...I've still been thinking seriously about it, for part time anyway. Hey, I appreciate you watching; are you a guitarist?

  • Your very welcome. Yes a guitarist and budding keyboard player. Thanks for the invite BTW.

    Michael

  • Right on...and thanks to you too for the kind words. :)

  • very good! drummers rule!

  • Thanks very much! I appreciate it...and thanks for stopping in...:)

  • Bass/Percussion line is my favorite of any song. It is the backbone. Without the song is not really a song, it's just a shell. It's like body and soul. Well done. Truce. Thanks for the mental workout. Nice crescendos btw.

  • Thank you kindly. And thanks for stopping by even after our scathing discussion elsewhere on YouTube! Thanks for the mental workout as well...:)

  • Scathing? Yes, at times. However, while our discourse was down right sardonic, it was yet and still facetious and inciting. It's all in good fun. I enjoy a challenge, but I do my best to employ a bit of diplomacy and humor. I'm a good sport. One issue has nothing to do with the other. You are a good musician. I can respect and appreciate that.

  • And thank you kindly...:)

  • this is wikid keep it up thanxs for all your comments xxxooo
