  • I am doing this for my entrance audition for Texas State School of Music... I love this song!!!

  • Singing this in a an octave up next year.

And yea you are a lyrical baritone/borderline tenor

  • I sang this just today at a recital. but i screwed up the beginning. :,(

  • You are not a bass.

    At all.

    you're a lyric baritone.

I have a similar voice but darker and lower.

  • agree he is a lyric baritone

  • The version he is using isn't written for bass, though I also agree...he is not a bass. I am a dramtic baritone but my studio professor has assigned me this piece as well as another that has some rather low notes. The voicing of the song is not based on the lowest note but rather the key and bulk of the notes.

  • Great! I'm working on this song myself but 2 whole steps higher, since I'm a baritone. But I think your a baritone too. You sound like one, great voice but don't be afraid to project, you're a great singer!

  • Heh, I once competed in a solo competition with this song. It's cool to see another bass take up the song

  • he's not a bass ^^'

  • I think I might have to agree. Dude, you might have to change your YouTube name 'cause I hear some nice high overtones in there. Definitely a lyric baritone, maybe even low tenor. The voice part we "attach" ourselves to are mostly based on color, not just range. Anyway, great performance of this song. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sure, this is a lyric tenor (possibly spinto) IMO. Unfortunately some teachers set the bar too low do get the range that is otherwise needs years of work.

As a result you can't here the voice in front of a piano. This is an easy road but it leads nowhere. He should sing this song in G (eventually, after couple of years of work).

  • I sing it in G and it's my normal voice but i'm not a bass... So I wonder who told you you were a bass. That's so strange...

  • Actually it happened the same to me. After 10 years thinking I was a bass-baritone went to a masterclass where I was surprised with the fact I'm really a Dramatic Tenor. Of course I didn't believe it but when the voice instructor put me singing "Recondita Armonia" (Puccini's Tosca) I had to accept it... After 10 years singing Don Giovanni and Figaro (Mozart's)... Oh well.

  • Hey great vid! And came for the right time too. On next wednesday I have to sign this song for "year exam" thing. Still have little problems singing it with piano but this is great excersise. Thanks.
