  • I like the dropkick murphies version's more. If that says anything lol.

  • that was fuckin embarresing, to say he was a true ronnie drew fan, he didnt even know the fucking words ..shame one you boNIo

  • BONO IS SHITE!

    Trust me!

  • not a patch on Luke Kelly or Ronnie Drew

  • CASTLECOMER do a great cover of this

  • @welcome1joe You are sooooooooooo right. New Irish band CASTLECOMER do an AMAZING a capella version of this song.

Check them out by typing in "The Auld Triangle - Castlecomer"

  • this video makes me proud to be an irishman

  • Bono you dick,if you are going to sing the song at least learn the fucking words.

    Fucking asshole.

  • Bono sucks!

  • Fucking awful. Bono is no Irish singer, he is a rock star. Ronnie Drew must be reeling in his grave after this rendition.

    Bouncedrealitycheck

  • bono better stick to vertigo--thats all he knows

  • Someone told me to check this out for a laugh. I didn't think it was possible to ruin a great song like this - but fair play to ya Bonehead: ya slaughtered it.

  • I checked Ronnie Drew's rendition. It's breathtaking. The Pogues do it well too. All I can say about this one is, "It's the thought that counts." That's putting it kindly because I don't think Bono put much thought into it.

  • And now broke! sorry but get ur goverment in check !!

  • what a load oh SHIT bono really is ... R.I.P RONNIE . LUKE .CIRAN

  • not a bit bit of heart in it,fucking dreadfull.id do better and i havent a note in me head.

  • and its all comin from an irish man

  • what a fuckin mockery ...Ronnie Drew is turnin in his grave R.I.P.Ronnie ....fuckin so called bono doesnt even know the words selfish CUNT .....go fuck yerselves u2...cunts

  • FUCKIN SHIT....HE DOSENT EVEN KNOW THE WORDS THE FUCKIN WANKER

  • Great song. All in the past, and I think Bono scents it.

  • Bono ya wanka try an easea'a song !

  • All this is, as greenteajaz said below is pure self indulgence!!! The only verses he knew of this great song is the opening one and the chorus... He made up some second verse and disregarded the rest of the song... Brendan Behan or Luke Kelly would be very disappointed in Bono's attempt I'd imagine!!!

  • bono ur a TWAT leave it to people who can sing ya self indulgent wanker

  • You Irish people who come on here and bash U2 really tick me off! U2 is the best thing to happen to Dublin/Ireland since the first blade of green grass appeared on your soil! You sound like people who just NEED something to complain about!

  • @crashj71 That's a ridiculous thing to say. U2 are good at their own thing, which I like as much as you do. But that is a laughably bad version of a great song. Bonos voice is weak and completely unsuited to this. I mean what is he at??

  • @crashj71 no luke kelly was the best thing to happen to ireland ya fucking dope..you're probably about 12 years old that knows fuck all about irish music..

  • I was at croker in '87 when u2 played...and they had The Dubliners as one of the support acts. Brilliant day and great to see U2 remember Ronnie in their current tour

BTW, on that day in June '87 they also had The Pogues and Lou Reed on the support list....what an amazing day

  • Absolutely briliant song! Just a shame that prick Bono is trying to sing it!

That's what a big ego does to you .

Think before you choose your songs?

    Maybe aggadoo next time?

I'd pay to see that ha !

  • Cunt

  • ease would ya, you un grateful begrudging prick!

  • Hey Bono.. how bout ya pay off Irelands debth ya prick or better still pay some taxes!!!

  • @yam500 that was the most annoying video I have seen on you tube ! Merry christmas.

  • Will these frauds ever fucking retire ffs

  • What a fucking knob.....

  • I saw U2 during the VeRTigo and 360° Tours at Croke Park! There's absolutely no feeling like being in Dublin/Temple Bar during a U2 Weekend! It's the BEST experience ever!!!!!!

    Sláinte!

  • This is not about a pub version of the usual Dubliners songs, you crowd of fuckin gimps. I guess some of these comments are why most of you dickheads full of negativity are already living in another country already. Good riddance to you...for those who are the intelligent and entreprenuerial, the cream will always rise to the top, and yes there is nothing we can't do when we put our mind to it. I wish Bono could take over from Trappatoni...

  • Hearing that crowd roar that hymn made me fuckin shiver :S

  • im not much of a singer, but even i could sing this better than bono, that doesnt sound like home bono, luke kelly sounds like home

  • As if it wasn't already obvious, this makes it clear that Bono is a pretentious poser.

  • Fuck you bono you nwo cunt... I used to listen to your band (the hype) practicing on Frankfurt ave in Rathgar when I was 3 and really respected you. Your nothing but a satanic fuck.... go suck the anglo dutch liberal financial banking empire's blood.... where are you living now... oh... Dalkey... SCUM

  • That was disrespectful to Irish music. Bono is the biggest arsehole this country has ever produced.

  • ruined a very good song!

  • One of the most disingenuous renderings of the heartfelt song. Somewhere along the way Bono and his crew sold their souls to Celine Dion. That sound you hear--Mssrs Drew and Kelly rolling over in their respective graves. And what rough beast slouches toward Bethlehem.

  • this is a joke!

  • Jaysus, That feckin eejit "Sir" Bono made a quare bollix of that

  • dat was fair mighty... great song, great crowd....

  • No respect, couldn't even get the words right.

You are not worthy to sing the same song as Ronnie, God bless him.

  • It's all about the money !

I hope U2 sleep well at night!

  • @63frankie spot on

  • Shite ! Bono your full of shit.

You've got no feeling for anything but yourself !

  • Why have, as of 11 August 2010, 124 people liked the video and 6 people disliked it, when all the comments below seem to complain about how dire a version Bono did?

  • @padraic2001eire Because Bono runs youtube, the cunt.

  • that is so god aweful terrible. go look up the luke kelly or ronnie drew version

  • holy fuck. that douche bag is just crucifying a great song.bono your no LUKE KELLY or RONNIE DREW , as much as you want to be.you're a fucking douche bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bono learn the words u wanker u say ronnie drew was d man have some respect

  • ...ha ha ha...you haqve sold your selves to USA....this is a laugh....terrible...as you all are....

  • I was there, it was so emotional, just a tribute from the learners to their proffessor, I can't understand why some people can only see ugliness in everything, this was a beautiful rendition because it was made with love and all the crowd there felt it and we wanted to contribute as well, beautiful, beautiful moment.

  • @Rose0024 rev up and speed off hippy

  • @submissivelyyours30 not a hippy, but sorry anyway for you. Don't waste your lifetime watching things you don't like, you'll feel better that way.

  • im not irish but i loved it! i was there all the way from oz! amazing!

  • i dont really like bono but this int a bad version

  • Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Dropkick Murphy's version is soooo much better then this crap :).

  • @info0

Wow. You just determined that a song is usually better when sang by the original artist that wrote it. Would you like a certificate for your efforts, Captain Obvious? Nobody cares if the song is botched up. People came here to see U2 and if U2 wants to perform that (and they have the proper paperwork) then by all means let them. Stop being such a prick and enjoy the damn performance.

  • @zodiacdragoon Just to remind you Sir Dropkick version is also a cover...

Luke Kelly sung the original as far as I am aware in Brendan's show. Behan wrote the song. But still the Dropkick Murphy's version have got that kick in it... :D

  • setcaswell you need to get laid , lighten up you prick .

  • @derekw26x I just don't like u2. It's not something you need to be getting concerned about. I was just watching the Dubliners and saw this link. I just happen to think that this is not a very good rendition but obviously I know they were honouring Ronnie, which is great. I didn't say anything about that. And by the way, when you are going to use derogatory language towards me then I will tell you to grow up because you need to.

  • Not a patch on the Dubliners. Not even slightly. HIs voice is nowhere near as good as Luke Kelly's was.

  • @fatnessisrampant their not meant to be you fuckin asswipe, their just showing ronnie some respect, they are differant style of singer,i suppose your a reall republican are ye lol, does me head in

  • @derekw26x Why don't you learn to grow up and stop insulting people online?! I can give my opinion on this if I want, and I happen to dislike this rendition. Sorry if you are too pathetic to be ale to respect people and their opinions. And people like you do my head in because you're obviously lacking in many ways.

  • @fatnessisrampant but why say its nnot a patch on like kelly, why are you watching u2 if your going to insult them, you should be proud of them,at least they done something for ronnie,so dont tell me to grow up ok

  • @derekw26x V Believe it or not, people are entitled to their opinions. And that language is vulgar and you're not showing respect to U2 or the Dubliners by speaking to people like that.

  • Blakjak11 allways claim u roots ur origin is irish ppl ere fro alloer the world clai to be irish i beliewhat our fathers are and fore fathers are we are!!

  • crashj71 - it's the fact that you went to Ireland and the music made you feel good is why I like that. Nothing to do with U2, who I don't really like. But if that made you feel good, more power to you

  • lap up Bono's tripe - tax avoiding parasite - can't even cover Drew properly - Bono is the David Beckham of irish artists

  • Ugh, love you uneducated idiots who fail to understand the situation before commenting. Bono never avoided taxes in Ireland. U2 as a business/company moved their assets to the Netherlands. It just so happens that U2 paid (and pays) taxes ALL OVER THE WORLD. This does not make U2 "tax avoiding parasites." It's just a savvy business move. You can't fault a business for trying to save money any legal way possible. Because he (& the rest of the band) live in Ireland, they still pay many taxes there.

  • Yes its a savvy business move - to reduce your tax bill - to pay tax to a foreign government rather than your own country and people who have supported U2 since the beginning. Everyone with common sense will realise the complete hypocrisy of Bono. Bono is a complete fraud. I might have some respect for him, if he donated his fortune to Foreign Aid, but after his tax avoidance move I will never support any of his initiatives ever again.

  • @submissivelyyours30 You fail to separate U2 the business from its members. They still live in Ireland & most certainly pay several different taxes there. Also, before this move U2 paid the majority of their taxes in other countries to begin with. You have NO idea how much Bono gives of his personal earnings to charities, so it's not even fair to talk about that. Charity in & of itself is a private matter. Maybe instead of having preconceived notions, you should look at the actual facts.

  • Huge Huge Huge fan from Dallas, Tx since high school in the 80's. One of my dreams finally came true when I travelled to Dublin and saw them play this night and the next. This particular moment was very special and powerful enough to make this boy from Texas feel very Irish. Almost too special for words. Thanks for posting.

  • that bono is such a cunt

  • why

  • bono is a cunt i agree 100% his just a user,if your going to sing for ronnie sing it right

  • bluejack irish shunt just be proud of bono far from it theres many more artists that would get get put before this man

  • Y'now, watchin this i can't help but wish there was an American equivalent to Bono and U2. What do we have? Bon Jovi, Aeorsmith? Please ... Irish should be proud they have U2 to claim their own. My family is from Donegal and I was born in Boston, but I'll never claim Ireland as my home. I hope, regardless of politics, that they appreciate the impact U2 has made on the world stage-nothing like it may ever be seen again

  • @bluejack11 You can have U2 after Rattle and Hum if you want.

  • @bluejack11 BONO IS A FUCKING CLOWN,HE WAS DOING A TRIBUTE TO RONNIE DREW,AND HE COULDNT EVEN SING THE SONG RIGHT, AND HE DIDNT EVEN SING IT ALL..FUCKING MUPPET..

  • @bluejack11 bono blows, the grateful dead on the other hand...

Pete Seeger on the other hand...

Arlo Guthrie on the other hand...

  • so am i so what

  • He was not only paying tribute to Ronnie Drew, a legend from Dublin. He was paying tribute to the Irish people on how far they have come since the 1916 Easter rising when the Republic of Ireland won its independence from British rule in Ireland, and also paying tribute to croke park which as Irish people will know has played its part, a big part, through the decades of Irish history.

  • Not that there was anything wrong with Ronnie drew and the Dubliners

  • I think Bono should have sung all of the verses of this song, he was wingin' it a bit and should have learned the whole song. Andoh for God's sake Bono whats with the "sexy in our own way" - I cringed when I heard dat Bono. Its just not cool you know!!! And I would have loved if you sang a requiem for the Catholic Church in Ireland.

  • had he knew the actual words to the song... perhaps ronnies name would have lived a little longer!! terrible version!!

  • worsest version of this song iv'e ever heard!!

  • I was there - front row of the runway, and I can tell you that moment was unbelievable - and Bono believed in it, you could feel it from the stage.

Fact is, amazing song, dedicated to an amazing artist, whilst being sung by and amazing band - no more can be said...

  • Jaysus but Bono butchered that! Should have let the crowd sing it, at least they know the tempo and the words. Did I hear some lad shout "Stop f**kin' preachin" at the end?

  • jarsonist look on youtube the video "the auld triangle (Ciaran Bourke's final appearance. see Bono and a very young u2 members leaning against the back wall i m afraid they have been singing this song to many years not to know tempo and words to this great song. my opinion. Drohegda

  • I was There and It was Fuckiin Brill so shut Up

  • word! i was there nd it was shit

  • go away and learn the song right. imagine paying money to listen to that load of tripe

  • I was in the Croke Park that night!

    A very special U2-Song.....

    Cheers from Switzerland

  • he says it all there is nothin we(irish)cant do if we believe in ourselfs

  • its not a U2 song.

  • I know, that it is not a U2-song.... that's why it is "very special" ...

  • Bono ya fuckin ejit ya made a fuckin bollox of that song

  • the edge had to remind him of the first line.

  • i think he made a balls of this,if yes want to hear it sung proper look up luke kellys version, yes wont be dissappointed.

  • bono j ai pleure c ete trop fot!!!!t es le best offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • What a great thing being irish having talent like u2 representing ireland

  • As a person living in Ireland it is great to hear someone bigging up Ireland in this recession when people are being let go from their jobs everyday Bono builds ups the crowd when the goverment hide on their summer holidays and leave us to it.

  • I agree, I hate it when people slag off Bono for being too political, because, y'know (especially in Ireland) the people who ARE meant to be politcial, ARN'T.

And who better than Bono - who despite whatever the media hypes up about him not living here or whatever - still loves the country & cares for it - more than the lazy bastards sitting on their arses in the Dáil anyways... Bono does better things for the country, even when's he's not here compared to them...

  • I hope that you will excuse me for the words that follow since I am an outsider to Ireland's problems and not educated on every aspect of them I suspect but Bono is a guy who denounced the IRA. I know many call the IRA terrorists but to me is the one organization who kept true to the cause of a United Ireland without compromises and to denounce them just to come off as a pacifist is at best pretentious if not a tad bit treacherous...

  • No, I know people who were in the IRA, and they arn't all bad in their cause, but, like pretty much every political organisation, they have both a good and bad side.

They stood up for a good cause, but ultimately they did hurt a lot of innocent people, I know many families who were ripped apart by the IRA...

    As I say; there's a good & a bad side to them.

  • True enough I suppose.

  • but he doen't even pay tax in ireland for christs sake!

  • willie o dea lost his job????,he still gets 1000.000 for loss of earnings

  • wish i was irish

  • im irish. and better still im a prison officer at mountjoy prison. it was great to se live

  • i like many irish people are proud of their heritage and love to show this through song.ireland is in no position to be left behind in europe in these economic times whether we like it or not.probably over 50% who are voting will vote yes you are calling facist.go fuck yourself, cunt face.

  • Is this a dumb-ass American who is watching her country enter into Socialism, believing everything the mainstream media tells them???? Big European business interests created the current economic situation in Ireland, through credit bubbles. The same business interests who spend over 2billion euro per year on propaganda to scare us into accepting their self amending European Constitution(Lisbon Treaty). Either shut the fuck up & go back to sleep or Wake up and get informed. Have a nice day Y'all

  • OR is this an Irish person showing great pride by claiming to be from the U.S.??? If this is the case.... Please stay the fuck away from Ireland until those of us who are not brainwashed by American Idol(etc.) can tackle real issues facing our freedoms. Don't worry i'll give you a shout to let you know when its safe for dip-shits like you to return home. Intelligent Americans are shit outta luck having imported retards like you there in a time like this. Póg mo tóin

  • Is minic a bhris béal duine a shrón.

  • :) - just curious - reading your comments - are you Irish OR American - im confused:) lol

  • Comment removed

  • a1anc -Is minic a bhris béal duine a shrón.

  • Great comeback

tangerine retard... very good. You just keep watchin boxsets eating junk and staying up to date on irrelevant shit. As I said before I let you know when its safe for gobshites to return.

  • Ta' me' buioch diot as do chunamh.Adh mor!

  • just reading your comments - I am a PROUD Irish Republican (born & bred) - you raised some intriguing points regarding the Lisbon Treaty - I myself did NOT vote (the ONLY referendum I have never voted in since eligibility) - I am very upset that I did not vote BUT I decided that since I couldnt make a POSITIVE deduction in favor or against - I opted out:( - problem is its HARD to believe any government anymore but I do understand the YES voters economic concerns - its a real tough situation!

  • hi, i'm from hamburg, i play in an irish folk band and i'm proud to be an european...

  • proud 2 be european? cop on

  • you should spoil your vote then. always use your vote. too many died so you could have it

  • Ya and Bono caused the rain clouds to come out today and blame him for the sun coming out tommorow.

  • pity he didnt sing the whole song, great night

  • don't think he knew the whole song man ha! I was there that night

  • bono had the crowd whipped...fantastic

  • well said everybody by the way

  • kellykinsel darling do they have chill pills in korea or wherever youre from?

  • Why cant you's all just shut up and enjoy the music.

  • Looking forward to seeing U2 in Phoenix when they are in the U.S. , although I doubt if they will play this song. Other than the Beatles, my fav. band.

Bono is an inspiration to many in our country, probably more than any entertainer on the planet.

They do make me proud to have Irish heritage....

  • amazing:)i was there:)

  • I think some people don't like Bono because he is tremendously rich now. Is this man fake??? I don't believe he is. Some people are really jealous an feel perturbed with some, a few, it's certain, get richer than the majority :(

His life isn't probably easy... but he doesn't give a damn to some comments... Go on Bono, you write wonderful songs and music!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @ kellykinsel: his name is Bono

grtz from Belgium! the country where they built the stage ;)

  • Obviously you don't understand that I call him Bozo because he is now nothing but a clown, (do you know who Bozo the Clown was?). With those elevator shoes, stupid sunglasses, and fake guitar playing, and don't forget his giant ego

  • Comment removed

  • I they kept their mouths shut and didn't try to manipulate the audience with their poliutical beliefs then I would not have a problem with them. But the fact is, they use their fame to promote their political viewpoint on many young people who are easily influenced and don't know any better.

Even you have to agree using your fame to manipulate young kids into ur world view is wrong. It is what China, N Korea , communists do to stay in power

  • No, intead of using their fame to get drunk and high all the time, rehab and those stuff, they are using it to try to change the minds of people like you, they're doing something for the world. I mean, you're comparing communists in Korea with Bono and his activism, you must have some problem.

  • Dear kellykinsel. here is a group of 'young' people who are expressi ng their view on the world in a peaceful manner. You don't have to agree with their views as they are out there sharing their music. However how much nicer it is to see talented creatives not simply taking the money but actually expressing a view. You seem to be confuse with your Korean/Chaina association - there you eiher agree or pay a penalty - here you can agree or disagree but still enjoy the music.

  • WHen I was younger I was too stupifd to see how U2 try to infliuenced my world view. When I got out of colega and got a job and ad to make a living then I got more political and I could see what phonies U2 are. I more disgusted by the fact they use their fame to indoctrinate people into their politics. So gullible and uninformed people are brainwashed by Bono to believe his views and he knows it.

Screwing with the minds of kids who should form their own views is despicable

  • Comment removed

  • KellyKinsel, show us your face, we need your face on a dart board. No offense. We're sorry for you though.

  • Hard to argue with the points you make, When I heard about U2 sheltering their money in Dutch banks to avoid paying taxes in Ireland it did annoy me quite a bit - Proud to be Irish but not willing to contribute to the country.

But you have to separate your opinion of Bono the twat from the music U2 make which is why I was at Croke Park last week

  • Im Irish!!

When Bono says "you have given us a great life"

I feel like sayin "hey ok-but any chance of a crate of beer Bono"!!!

Hes good but he will never be a Phil Lynott or Luke Kelly and Im sure he would agree ho ho!!!

  • well, he's rich since 87 probably.

  • Kelly! why are you watching bono on youtube?

  • Is it getting a little bit better or do u feel the same mmmm betty. Do u2 have sponsors for their shows now??

  • Wow! This is deadly; thanks for posting. I was at Monday's gig and they didn't sing it. I think they sang "Far Away Up Close" instead cos only Bono and the Edge were on stage for that song. It was great too though.

  • go on ta fuk de Ronnie Drew RIP

  • I was there. Hearing 80,000 people sing this was something else. Great great moment.

  • Godlike.

    Condolences, Coldplay.

  • Godlike.

  • And another thing you're American yeah ?

Do you even know who Ronnie Drew is ?

    I fuckin doubt it !!

So y would you come on a video to bitch ?

How sad is your life ?

  • If you don't like something, then don't watch it. It's pretty simple really. You seem to be getting pretty heated about something so unimportant. Relax lovie and have a nice glass of wine. And of course if you don't want to go and see them in the USA then you don't have to. Mummy's not going to force you to go is she?

  • Now that is a singsong!

  • did he have to ask the edge what the first words were?? bono is a great singer etc, but a complete twat!

  • as a Dubliner myself - this little speech from Bono brings a tear to my eye:)

    Our undefeatable IRISH spirit:)

  • I hope this gig is produced for DVD - so the world can witness what a great stadium we have in Dublin ( a Jewel in the Emerald Isle)

there were 3 gigs in 2005 on the Vertigo Tour - now 3 for 360 - PLEASE give us a DVD:)

  • Yes laza! you speak my mind! When he said about the hill 16 behind him- well the hairs rose on the back of my neck!!!

    Fair play bono!

  • The local alco in my town sings it better..bono is full off shit..how rude. dedicate it and not even reherse

  • quite appropriate to sing this in Croke Park, on the banks of the Royal Canal

  • Comment removed

  • Ronnie Drew ,Luke kelly, Ciaran Bourke and Brendan Behan we'll never forget you!

Fair play to Bono and the lads for the Tribute

Best Rock Band in The world

  • Wow great advertisiment for RTE sport lol:P

  • Ronnie Drew RIP

    Bono's a tosser
