  • gas is 1.91 in this video...

  • Number one thing to take from this awesome interview: He drinks milk.

  • I wish no one cared about the musician's personality; it would increase the quality of mainstream music right now and prevent a lot of bullshit that pollutes a lot of people's live. Instead of a gimmicky interview, I would much rather have seen him just perform a few songs and maybe talk about how he wrote them a little bit. when the hell did being a musician stop being about music?

  • THIS John Mayer was my inspiration on a personal level and musical level. Unfortunately, he's just my musical inspiration now :/

  • I miss this John Mayer, after Continuum (in my opinion his peak) he became a douche. He went from a shy geeky guy with a talent up his sleeve, too a stereotypical Hollywood asshole. Battle Studies was just a little soft compared to his other albums, but I still liked it. However, I do sense he has a chance to redeem himself. He just needs to remember his roots. He has a new album coming out that should be great.

  • I've seen less cheese on a pizza.

  • He said my name. He said Cynthia. I'm dead. -3333

  • Those gas prices make me want to throw up. 1.91 a gallon in 2002/2003.

  • Maybe he did some things that were "douche-worthy", but I think like most younger guys (like myself) he's just stumbling through life trying to figure things out. i've probably done as many (if not more) stupid things as Mayer, but it's just not been made public.

also, as kind of an ordinary guy in high school, if i had the chance to date Jennifer Aniston or Jessica Simpson, i'd do it, if not for the sex then at least the publicity.

  • Wow, they really overplayed on the geek-shy-guy persona. Either he turned into a total douche sometime after Continuum came out, or he always was a douche putting on a giant lie.

  • "He's six three, he drinks milk."

    ...Cool? :3

  • such a simple guy with a great talent..i love him...

  • He was so innocent! ah, funny

  • "Yeah, you know, the weirdest thing in the world is that, when I, I used to be at home, in my bedroom, and pretend that I was onstage, and now I'm onstage and I pretend that I'm home in my bedroom."

Beautifully put. I miss this John. The baggy jeans, messy hair, lisp, and innocence. It sure has been a long time since 22.

  • HES SO CUTE. LIABJHBFJHAEWBJUAKBW

  • I love John Mayer so much!

I no lie just cried 3times during this vid

  • John is giving driving tips to himself at 5:09

  • yeah, but us nice guys have to be the ones at the sidelines and the ones who get screwed right? i mean all the jocks have nothing without us, but yet when we try to be ourselves they put us down and act as if were nothing. John mayer lived the lifestyle of us, the people who get screwed by the world. I guess you could say that us nice guys relate, Huh?

  • $1.91/ gallon for gas....

  • i really love and appreciate john Mayer, he is my idol, almost every experience or emotion iv ever felt, john Mayer has the words for it i just couldn't come up with, its nice growing up with that one idol and knowing your not the only one feeling a certain way, just sucks i'm dieing to meet him instead of stalking all of his interveiws! :P

  • I wish I could go back in time and go to that gas station and tell John (when he was a kid with a dream) "Your gonna make it" and then just walk out...

  • It all went downhill from here didnt it John...

  • @KayGeBe1 that aint true... dude..

  • Oh! now i understand why he wrote (great Indoors)

  • I had no idea that he used to have this geeky reputation. All you ever hear about him now is who he dates and all that. But his music is so undeniably good, and whether he always makes the best choices or not, he certainly is interesting.

  • i miss when gas was $1.91@ 5:30

  • i bet those girls from highschool wanna fuck him now.

  • 'He's not hip hop, no bling bling, just jeans and a t-shirt...' that's John Mayer

  • @0sceptique0 except for all those watches...

  • 1.91 for gas :( i miss those days

  • its surprising the similarities you can find in things without having to look at all

and one of those situations if not many is this interview :)

  • Comment removed

  • "I really don't have much experience with women.."

    He does now.

  • I was listening to the interview and I thought they were talking about Johnny Depp at first

  • "wouldn't be nice if just once the quiet guy finished first? The quiet guy? The poet? The guy withouth a prom date?" Man! That's me

  • "the geek in all of us" can hit and quit Jennifer Aniston. FUCKIN PIMP!

  • the geek in all of us can hit and quit Jennifer Aniston!? I mean, she isn't top grass, but it's still an AMAZING feat!

  • the geek in all of us can hit and quit Jennifer Aniston? I mean, she isn't top grass, but it's still an AMAZING feat!

  • He. Drinks. Milk.

  • I think by saying, "hes no hip-hop no bling bling...your parents would probably like him" She was trying to insinuate that hes not black and he fits into people's imagination of what a good grounded person(non thug) is supposed to be??

  • @hmcomsat Exactly, shes saying that what parents want. Not some thug/gangster. And it was awesome.

  • @RWJ1990 Well but not all people in hip hop are shallow u know "bling bling" hip hop is infact an art form atleast to some people. This interviewer is a bit shallow and ignorant in her comment.

  • not a lot of experience with women ..yeah fuckin right

  • Is it just me, or is every single thing this woman describes him as, the exact opposite of what he is now?

  • @SirFunkyPeacockMagic I think that in many ways he's grown up, but in many more ways it is the public and the perception of John that is the "exact opposite" of who he is. We don't actually know him. Just his projection and the manipulation the media and society has warped him into being.

  • @halfwaytocliche Good answer. Haha, love John, just thought it was pretty funny.

  • amazing what happens in 8 years

  • $1.91 gas prices :( 5:27

  • "Welcome to wonderland" i love it and him!

  • "Welcome to wonderland" i love it and him!

  • hosestly fuck you faggots that dont think hes nice you all are mad fucking dumb "o hes hot a writes good music" go fuck your hand you bitch

  • This was the guy I fell in love with. Please come back! Even if it's not all the way... try to find your way back to who that 25 year old kid was.... pretty please?

  • 1.91 for gas man life was good then

  • lmao john mayer isn't a nice guy. he's a dbag. but idc cuz he's hot and makes good music haha.

  • The bit in the car at around 5.25secs Cynthia is being a big flirt lmao

  • Goddammit he's such a douche.

  • i feel small sometimes...yep 6'3...my first thoughts until he finished the sentence...i know i was being dumb at the moment

  • Giant head and giant heart! An interesting way of saying describing the richness. <3 you JM.

  • john mayer isnt lame at all wtf is with this interview?//

  • HAHAHAHAHA NICE GUY , MY A**!

  • wow fail. the whole intro to the interview is based on fiction. its not true at all

  • he drinks milk.

  • This is actually scary how relevant this is to me right now! i'm only 17 and he's like quoting my thoughts! what a fucking hero!!

  • I hate how they lie about him so you love him if you don't know him yet.

  • @rohan316 umm...yea...ok....what do you know about john anyway? I know that i'm a huge fan, that i have litteraly all his CDs, listened to all his songs, even the ones not released, I have listened to almost all his interviews and seen all the videos he made by himself and read all his post on tmbrl and twitter and i THINK i know him quite well to say that what is said in this video, especially for that time is all true...so yea...don't know what ur talking about

  • @EricaPapad Well firstly he's not shy

  • haha 'shy' hahahahaha

  • I always got my gas from that station having NO CLUE what he was about to become.

  • @kathyuk28 That's Insane!!!! hahaha

  • How john mayer has changed

  • @Jefferies1903 I have to agree with you. He has changed a lot. Change is good, but it can be risky. I think that it helps artists when they are 'mysterious' because too many interviews can ruin you. Words can be taken out of context, etc. I am a new fan after falling in love with 'Waiting for the World to Change' and seeing him at the MJ Memorial. I just bought Continuum which I love.

  • @teeahtate I'm a huge fan, i have all his albums, his live Dvd's, i even had to import John mayer trio live album from the states. But i still believe that his fame has gone to his head. He's not as grounded as he used ot be.

  • @rubyhaleybenjamin Even if thats true he's definitely made up for it by now!

  • at 1:14 he walks past freaking james taylor?!?!??!

  • LOVE him!

  • Does anyone else think this interview is shitty? ABC makes him sound so humble and aloof, like he's just the good guy that happened to come out on top. "Speaks to the geek in each of us" ? "he drinks milk"? "john mayer is the guy who made every nerd's dream come true"? One thing is for sure - he is not shy, and wasn't even back in 2003. ABC creates whatever image it wants to project about someone. ABC is owned by Disney, and Disney = propaganda.

  • i work at that gas station now. and have a jm strat. haha. someday a kid will be working their and have my signature guitar

  • @dougsusername whats ur name i work there too, i dont know any dougs

  • @TDproductions07 well i put in my application and said i would be called. so just starting out

  • How is this relevant to the Mayer of today?

  • I love, love, love this story!!!!!!! Thanks so much for posting. :~)

  • he does it without really even trying...thats why i love john mayer..:)hes being himself

  • beautiful story...

  • GOD i wish he was 16...

  • @quincywho lol!

  • I love how Cynthia is technically making fun of him during this interview,

Example: 'I used to pretend that I was playing at the dances'

    Cynthia: ''PLAYING at them?!''

She didn't realize that he is more than a human, a guitarist, a songwriter.

He is the most humblest man I have ever seen, and don't say that he was a douche or he is racist, because it's not like we live in a world where mistakes don't exist.

  • @TheMusiclove93 i love you...

  • wow the difference between john then and john now. he drinks milk? ahahaha Cynthia sounds like an idiot.

  • 6:48 that's what she said

  • He is everything women line up for. How come they never seem to get that the line keeps moving?

  • not a lot of experience with women? ahah...haha

  • Met someone who knew him as a student at Berklee. Said his experience of him, there, was that he was good, and he was cocky. This musician told me there are two kinds of musicians: Cocky ones and humble ones. I'll take his opinion into consideration, but i can't help but believe that one of the reasons JM made it was BECAUSE he was just that damn "cocky", if you will. I like to call it "self-assured". : )

  • It's scaring me how much his life in High School and his dreams back then are similar to what im in right now. Hopefully i'll go the same way. John, you my idol.

  • @marieview haha true say!

  • @marieview - It's been a year, have you made any headway yet?

    probally not.

  • @OccamsKatana So far my comment is the highest rated!! That pretty wild, isn't it?

  • @marieview - pretty wild indeed.....sad.

  • @OccamsKatana Out of sadness comes art.

  • @marieview / yes, or more sadness.

  • @OccamsKatana Which means more art.

  • @marieview Or more, much more sadness, depressedness even.

  • @OccamsKatana So are you saying that out of art comes much more sadness? Don't you like art? What a sad, sad thing for you.

  • @marieview - your art.

  • @OccamsKatana Opinion without knowledge is very ignorant.

  • @marieview - thats why they call it opinions and not facts.

Facts without knowledge is very ignorant.

Opionions can be Ignorant regardless of factual knowledge.

Please be precise and correct if you are trying to look smart.

Notice how I said trying, because you failed to reach that goal and actually accomplished quite the opposite.,

Making yourself look like a retard that is.

  • @OccamsKatana In your opinion. I might not look at it that way. I might think the exact same about you. No matter what you're saying about me, you're really only saying something about yourself.

Anyways. I don't wanna bother people anymore with our stupid comments. Should we cut if off and do something productive?

  • @marieview - read through your last comment, "in your opinion.."

Theres no cohesion and it doesnt make any sense.

    Do it again.

  • @OccamsKatana I think it makes a lot of sense, but I can't really find much sense in your words. Just cut if out now, will you?

  • @OccamsKatana That's some crafty trolling, I must say. Well done.

  • @merocket - Why thank you kind sir, much obliged yes jolly good.

  • he drinks milk

  • My dad went to highschool with john and used to be friends with him. And my dads friend tim played in a band with him before he got famous..

  • Uhh overplayed on the geek crap! John is WAY too good to get that shitty sob story, he can float on his own

  • @lolMegxxx yeah. agreed.

  • WTF...how is he a geek...?? He didn't like school...lmao...

  • hahah he's changed soooo much. he said he had little experience with women in 2003. now its 2010, read his interview with playboy

  • why the hell does this interview make him seem like such a nerd. Fuck off ABC!!!! John. your fantastic.

  • Mr intellectual over thinking and comedic. He is a GREAT dancer. Love the way he walks with turned out feet. Don't know about his pelvis, but lower down his feet speak geek.

  • is he 6.3?? thats like 190, right? he dosnt look that tall..

  • aw he's so cuuuttte! and: "not much experience with women" - PFFFFTTT!! ahhhh the days before herpes! .....sigh!

  • no bling bling haha

  • That whole line about being in your bedroom pretending you're on stage...hit me so hard. Man...he just says it for me.

  • HE"S 6'3" yessss.

and i love him as much as i always have but boy oh boy has he changed.

  • hahaha if only they knew....

  • He should continue to be the quiet guy, the poet, the guy without a prom date. I'm so upset that he is so full of himself now. He contiues to pump amazing songs out, but he really thinks he is so cool now. See how humble he was in this interview. He's not that way anymore. I know deep down he's still that guy, but i think hollywood did it to him. I don't blame him.

  • Only If He Kept The Quite Thing Going Lolz :) Cuz He Sure Isnt Any More

  • he isnt so quite any more

  • one of his best interviews :)

  • he does it without really trying..right

  • NOOOOOO! if only they had let him be shy ...lol

  • 1.90 for gas!!! holy moly

  • "I stand next to people and sometimes I feel like I`m not as cool as they are." You definitely can`t say that now John! ;) <3

  • John Mayer is quite? Haha! ILY, John.

  • I. Love. John. Mayer. So much. oh the things I would love to do to that man.... but that is not appropriate for youtube.

  • See, the talking on the fly started way back then...certain amount of comfort in knowing that much of him hasn't changed that much.

  • What's with the box head @ 7:02? Haha.

    Love this man.

  • how old is he at 4:39?

  • hes 25 at that time

  • OK THIS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS TO HIM. OR he's obviously NOT like that anymore, he is and he wears a mask i don't know and and somebody please explain me to me the power he has on women it's just inevitable...

  • the answer is NO... he wouldn't do that to his girl friend

  • ok so hes defiantly not a geek. why do they keep calling him that?

  • @horseheadbutt cause he was a square and geek in high school

  • It's very weird for me to watch this video because I spend most of the time in my bedroom playing my songs pretending I'm on stage..like him :) I'm just 19

  • Oh the irony! Wish he'd stayed shy and continued avoiding interviews.

  • "though he doesn't think he'll ever look like a rock star" and look at him now haha

  • nice guy lol

  • how old is he there at 4:39?

  • @jaymoore299 it was just a joke. calm down man

  • what the FUCK else can he do the gas station boss isnt qualified to do anything he cannt exactly be offered a place in this band.

  • it wasn't douchey the way he said it.

  • He is kind of a douche, but it doesn't really matter...

  • how could someone possibly think that this guy is a douche bag?

  • the 2:46 voice crack is beautiful LOL

  • That wasn't a voice crack that was falsetto.

  • The song is "My stupid Mouth".

  • What's the song at 1:51 :o?

  • my stupid mouth on the any given thursday in birmingham :)

  • 7:02 ... box girl creeper?

  • how is this guy a douche he said he was a high school nerd

  • I don't think he's changed...always been the same John Mayer he is now..it's just the lvl of exposure that's changed..he's just acting himself..most artists can't do that which is why slot of people don't like him..but honestly he's just sayin what were thinking..

  • lol the nice guy ? love him but hes a douche. said so himself.

  • i go to his old high school :D LOVE YOU MAYER

  • @curiouscurl i go to his old high school too!!

    warde <3

  • this guy is such a storytelling genius.

  • HOLY SHIT. LOOK AT THOSE GAS PRICES.

  • loll some i'm not the only person who saw that

  • Sorry, but I loved who he was. But let's face it, he's no longer that "boy" we loved. He's evolving and he's a lot richer than he was even in this piece. I related more to the boy. Simple statement of my truth.

  • omg i drink milk too lol

  • he have certainly changed

  • great interview

  • i think the public's perception of him has changed (mainly due to high profile relationships) more than HE has actually changed

it's a shame that people are so down on him these days because he truly is a wonderful musician
