good job dude, and great tone and dialed in effects.. there s always some idiot tryin to bash sombody... im a huge D.G. fan, and im sure he would ve commended you on that effort. also great mix
@Muzikman127 and im sorry but i think you are sadly mistaken mentioning BB king, in fact he basically proves my point most of the time. i think you are misinterpreting the direction of his motion.
@Muzikman127 the only way this can be achieved and be anything close to the real meaning of vibrato is if the neck tension is being increased/decreased. Maybe the finger can ever so slightly push the strings tension but it is totally inefficient to do so. believe me you can tell the difference between how vibrato works on fretted instruments and a violin. People try to mimic violin vibrato, which works because the finger rolls slightly up and down, and there is no frets.
one thing i find funny, when people seem to just have one vibrato speed, they never vibrate their bends... which should be intuitive since vibrato on a fretted instrument is generated by right to left, which makes a bend a huge vibrato, why not incorporate it
@boonexy Vibrato on guitar is not necesarily side to side. Many players if not most (excluding classical guitar) play with a vertical vibrato a majority if not of all the time, and some with a combination of movements- e.g. B.B. King. Smooth vibrato is often achieved with a certain looseness in the fingers. When bending your hand is naturally a lot more tense- to this makes vibrato a lot more unnatural to do. Side to side vibrato is almost impossible whilst bending a string.
@Muzikman127 Me personally- when I play vibrato I tend to pull the string downwards. Now when bending a note a whole tone on the - string for example, I have to push the string up not pull it down- as pulling it down it would do off of the edge of the neck. This makes the playing a of vibrato a lot more difficult to achieve- and often won't come without me thinking about it, as it does on other notes- this seems to be the smae thing happing to the guy playing here.
Nice job! Don't listen to the jealous morons. Funny that they never seem to have videos posted of their player. Kinda easy to talk trash and hide behind a computer.
Hello everybody, first of all I would like to apologize for my poor english writing, this is the first time I'm writing on Youtube even if I've been many years enticed to do so.
Then I would like to congratulate the author of this video because if I close my eyes I could even think that this is Mr Gilmour himself who's playing... And I love this excellent guitar player.
What I find "strange" or funny on internet is that whatever the discussion is and whatever the language is, there's always somebody trying to give some advises on how it has to be made and so on... well it's so human behaviour when it's done in a positive way.
But in this present case I don't see what could be reproached... If so please send yourselves a better video and we'll see if you're better, of course it's more comfortable to send criticisms when seated behind a computer.
I thought it sounded great man. I can tell your deff. influenced by David Gilmour, but you also have your own personal touch. thats awesome! Im the same way I guess, Im deff. influenced by Mr.Gilmour but Im starting to have my own sound also. After all, David did say "copy shamelessly" great work man!
The Problem with morons like you is, you cant handle criticism which is why you will never get better. Because i dont have videos doesnt mean i cant play guitar or understand music does it? You thinking im jelous when im giving you constructive criticism is just ignorance on your behalf. Quit playing USLESS notes, specially in A David Gilmour tune... he NEVER played useless notes.. every note mattered! remember that one for your next video.. pft
@enzo2enzo2enzo useless notes? Any note played with emotion is not a useless note...so what you are saying is " play it just like David?"....if I wanted to do that...I would just rather listen to Mr. Gilmour himself....I don't want to be David Gilmour...he is one of my favourites...But there is already one Gilmour and there will be no other..only clones. I pay tribute to all my influences in this song, youtube is for expression of talent for a lot of guitarist...I can appreciate everyones effort
@jashobbsie Excellent playing Awesome tone. very good recording quality, Do you have a microphone in front of the speaker?
nice HD video. keep going, Every great player says the same thing; learn the hit songs and emulate your favorite artists, until you have piles of experience and skill and become an artist, Each artist works in teamwork on a band or the art wont happen. You are obviously an artist.
Is angry criticism artists working together? Roger also destroyed pink Floyd
@enzo2enzo2enzo okay, you're an idiot, is this guy supposed to BE david gilmour, no, i don't think he is, so fuck off loser, o and just to piss you off, roger waters was the best member of pink floyd, because I know it grind the fuck out of david fans when people say that
you are crazy, david gilmour AND roger waters was pink floyd. but david proved with on the turning away, coming back to life, learning to fly, etc.,etc,. he was pink floyd. pink floyd is ALL about david's guitar playing, they never would've achieved the fame they had without him. roger is brilliant too, but to say david gilmour is a great addition to pink floyd is like saying eddie van halen was a great edition to VH, just doesn't make fucking sense at all.
@sticher314 my opinion...syd barrett was pink floyd as well...all i have to say is that if you take one member out of the band...you no longer have the same band....correct? therefore everyone contributed in their own way. Roger waters was a big influence on the band and he had a direction that he wanted to take the band in...IMO
nobody knows or cares about syd barret....he was a great as an inspiration i suppose with wish you were here and shine on you crazy diamond...but once again syd could have NEVER written those songs like dave did. david gilmour is a rock guitar legend among the ranks of page, clapton, hendrix, and van halen. roger may have 'wrote" the songs and his words were brilliant, but dave's guitar playing is just beyond extraordinary. they never would've became legends without him.
@sticher314 Bullshit. David Gilmour was a "second string" guitarist. He was not a founding member. He only became famous because Barrett ingested too many drugs. If that had not happened, Gilmour would still be an unknown. Roger Waters wrote the VAST MAJORITY of the important, successful PF songs, created the concepts for the albums, and did The Wall album, stage show and movie almost on his own. Gilmour? Oh, that's right. He played a famous solo on "Numb". Gilmour owes his whole life to Waters.
@sticher314 What did Gilmour produce after Floyd? You know, during the Pink Fraud days, when he stole the name and toured with no-names, including 2-3 drummers to play, since Mason couldn't play for shit? What humongous hits came from the infamous writing pair of Gilmour and his dumbed-down girlfriend? NONE. They accomplished nothing, except picking the pockets of Floyd fans. On an Island? LAUGHABLE! Waters was right to leave the band... to get away from the sponges who sucked off his talent.
what did roger do? What God wants???? you're bringing up on an island....gilmour has nothing to prove anymore. he is a guitar playing legend. roger and david are BOTH brilliant. everybody runs out material. billy joel can't right an album for shit anymore either.....you just run out of material.
@sticher314 Waters has produced far more than Gilmour... and he didn't need his girlfriend to write it for him like Dave did. Yes, I brought up On An Island. It was his (girlfriend's) most recent work. Yes, it sounds as if his girlfriend wrote it. It is laughable. Glad to see a Gilmour fan admit that his guitar hero is over-the-hill and lackin g in creativity. If Gilmour is all out of music, he should RETIRE. He won't. Like the Pink Fraud period, he will just continue bilking his few fans.
@MongoTheLloyd obviously u have no clue of what u r saying. It seems u have a spite for Gilmour for some reason. Gilmour's live performances are outstanding till today. Waters live shows are almost a disappointment (except for the wall tour which was terrific).
Also tell me what Waters created after he left floyd..
@Eldildorad0 Oh Christ. Really? Sorry... but I( don't converse with folks who do the one-letter abbreviation crap. Or people that use "dude" in a sentence. Seriously. Talking down strains my neck. @Eldildorad0 Nope. But at least I had one... and made it through to adulthood. Your excuse? Excuse me... let me put this in words even you can understand:
@ leeste I hd 1.... & maid it thru 2 add-ult-hood. UR eks-ka-yews?
@sticher314 You ARE a cretin, aren't you, sticher? You DO know Floyd was already "famous" before they hired Gilmour, the 2nd string guitarist? No? You didn't know that? Of course you didn't. It was LONG before your time, son. Go read a book about Floyd to learn what we who were around at the time knew already. Perhaps then, your opinion might matter. Doubtful, but gfive it a try. As to the string of Fraud songs you mentioned... they too are as laughable as On An Island.
@enzo2enzo2enzo He has more thumbs up than thumbs down on this video, who looks like the moron now? You do. @enzo2enzo2enzo The problem with morons like you is that you think everyone wants to hear what you have to say. The guy plays guitar how he wants to, and he's good. He's got his own style like everyone else. You're just a trolling douche, only somone like you would have something negative to say about a video like this. Side note: Learn how to fucking spell and use punctuation, it might get you a job somewhere besides Burger King.
@jashobbsie... its called an opinion. And for u to call me a little child when you dont know a single thing about me, is understatably ignorant, it just shows what a moron you are. David Gilmour does not play the same solo identically every time, but there is one thing he ALWAYS NEVER DOES, and that is, play useless repetitive notes that do not fit in the song structure.. If you understood music, u would have an idea. Useless notes is all i commented please dont bother msging back with ignorance
nice .. but meaningless like most guitarists..meaningless notes.. im not being nasty, but David Gilmour was NOTE FOR NOTE being counted... how bout u play what gilmour played if your using his kit?
@enzo2enzo2enzo jealously will get you no where my friend....you need to listen more carefully and then open your mouth, when you can do better, give me a shout then...as i expected you have no uploads of you playing....didn't your mother ever teach you any manners....as a matter of fact...David Gilmour himself does not play this solo the same everytime he plays it....grow up little boy.
When you are playin' it's like you are givin' mutiple orgasms to your guitar and at the same time she is makin' you crazy too. So, this is like you are havin sex with her.
i want the david gilmour strat but they cost about $9000 in new zealand. guess i'll just have to get a regular black strat and upgrade the gear my self.
I think thats the best guitar ever made. Sure of it. By the way, its too much expensive. Better to rent a house near to gilmour's one and listen him playing.
Thanks this is brilliant , I like it better that original , and I love that , you bring something to it ........ thanks for the invite. Do you have lessons on this ?
Dave Gilmour's setup is pretty out of reach of any amateur musician, or anyone who isn't filthy rich. He's got a bunch of custom made rack gear; a big fan of effects, his rig is a far cry from a guitar plugged into an amp. There's a website that documents his rigs through the years and during this era, it's basically, like, an ENIAC computer or google server farm.
nice playing. Im not sure if its maybe just style difference between players or amp/effects setup, but his sound seems a bit more airy/live/ spacious to me?
@borquezu got it from Stevie ray vaughan...you bend the high e and catch the b string on top on the bend and bend two of them together....you will hear srv do this a lot.
eres un guitarrista asombroso y lo que pocos me han causado como david gilmour es ponerme la piel de gallina con tu solo esta de primer nivel muchas felicidades y sigue asi ojala yo pudiera tocar como tu,.gracias
Damn man, you really put some emotion into this. Most people suck ass at vibrato and stuff that really shows the musical talent a musician has. Great solo.
@jashobbsie wow awesome but what I meant was more like " what did you use with your Gilmour strat on this video"? ^^ anyway cool to read all your list, some jewels there

Guitarity 7 months ago
i want the david gilmour strat but they cost about $9000 in new zealand. guess i'll just have to get a regular black strat and upgrade the gear my self.

God that's good. You really hit it. As you say, not node by node, but thats good :-) God bless, and ofcuase Sir Gilmour to...

Fantastic playing and tone!
What gear are you using?
modflea 8 months ago
I think thats the best guitar ever made. Sure of it. By the way, its too much expensive. Better to rent a house near to gilmour's one and listen him playing.

This is more Brian May style thank Gilmour. But it's great!

You got that Clapton first finger vibrato goin on. Excellent phrasing, worthy of Gilmour's ear. Nice work pal.

When I watch vidoes on people playing Gilmour, its never the guitar. its the player and the effects that make it happen.
