@louiseduvee i know what you mean, but it's always seemed to me patti was at her best when she skipped the damn freaky stuff and just sang a great song, like this one, free money, because the night, kimberly. i would read, back in the day, about her wild freak-out concerts and it seemed like NO, that is not what patti smith is about...not to me anyway.

@popstone1 I think that great deal of Patti awesomeness comes from her diversity - she is a punk icon and one big freak, but she is also a romantic poet and a sophiscitated thinker. She overcomes all the labels and that is why so many people love her - some like her punk side, some adore her subtle poetry and others love her for mixing them together.
