@Flamekebab True very true, I like how you incorporated one of the quotes they had about him. I'm going to miss him so much, he was the cutest and funniest young man they had on there. I hope these new prospects will atleast be HALF the man he was
The title refers to Baghdad, or Dad for short, because the song is about the Iraqi War. Old Ali Baba is another species refers to Saddam and the Iraqi soldiers and their methods of warfare.
Just watched the first episode of Sons of Anarchy season 3 and as this song was playing I thought to myself "that sounds like Richard Thompson". Looks like I was right. Good song.
Dude, write SPOILER if your gonna say stuff like that man. Some people haven't seen that far through. I've seen 'em all but I just got me mate into the series and he loves Half Sack's character! Now he's gutted! :P
I came here because, Lester Bohem, the guy who wrote Dante's Peak, played bass in the Sparks and was the front man in the Gleaming Spires told me Richard Thompson was a good guitarist and songwriter when his son and I were hanging out and watching a documentary about North Korea. I'm way better than all of you.
richard rhompson vivait bien avant SOA (j'adore cette série) ne l'oubliez pas... j'aime cet homme. Guns are the tongues...The most beautiful song for me....
I know there's a lot of people posting things about Sons of Anarchy in the comments and it gets a little annoying at times, but I kinda have to make one, too.
My life's taken a turn for the worse in the past year, and I've kinda lost sight of where I came from. In my free time, I've been watching SoA to take my mind off things, but as I've been watching, I've been hearing songs I know. When I heard Dad's Gonna Kill Me again, a lot good memories came back.
@plokmij23 yeah Hale didn't like SAMCRO, but he had a bit of a conscience when it came to taking them down the right way. He deserved better than what he got. Stahl on the other hand... she can rot in hell.
If SOA has brought people to check out Richard Thompson's awesome talent, great stuff. He's a killer musician and I doubt anyone will be unhappy if they check out his other great albums.
I'd never heard of this guy until SOA, and I keep my ear close to the radio. He's from Scotland, I believe. Maybe he's just getting known herre. Whatever... GREAT song. Truly great. I'll keep watching for this guy. What a bunch of cool dudes.
Is anybody else getting REALLY ANNOYED that you can't listen to this on a link from your playlist? That makes absolutely no Goddamn sense and you can blow me SME.
Thank you for the long version, and for putting up the lyrics. This is the best song about the war. I have never heard this on the radio, and I'm so glad I heard it on SOA. It's truly great.
Right, Richard Thompson may be an amazing musical genius, but he's not exactly mainstream. I'm thrilled to have heard this song on SOA, and that's made me seek out more of the man's music. And that's how any artist gets their music out to audiences, by any means necessary. I don't care how I heard it, I'm just happy I did. Same goes for countless other songs on SOA that I was lucky enough to hear.
very powerful track.... its not sad that SAMCRO put it on the map...Bet you Richard Thompson is cool with the fact that people know who he is now...alot more people that is.
@AussieRedneck09 Yea the rage and the emotion in his mind, i love jax for that scene. seeing the pain that the shooter caused and taking rightful action.
@gingermanboy Jax is a moody fucking emo pussy. i swear to god i was hoping cammie would raise Abel in Belfast and teach him to make bombs or next generation gun dealer to the Sons. Jax always whining about the direction the club is going. booohooo, poor biker vp of the club can't find himself. gimme a break. Great song though and feel bad for cammie. I hope they kill that cunt Stahl.
bloody great song.... who gives a fuk how people come to his music...... mr thompson could keep me going songs forever, check out people doing his covers, like husker du and rem on the album, beat the retreat....... fekn brilliant, i love them all
Heya SOA-->Richard Thompson people, it's sad it took SOA to bring you here, because it's sad that you hadn't had exposure to him from other places before this. :D Good on you all for searching it up on here, and htornis, cheers for the song! Thank god for TV shows like this having great music on them really, I myself had heard of Richard Thompson before this sure, but everyone (including me) finds so much more great music from TV shows/films etc. than they would otherwise.
@chuggaluggaful i think its perfect soa brought me here, i dont have time to find out about music all my friends listen to let alone something nobody i know listens to. Thank god for sons for showing me music like this so idont have to suffer with the likes of britney spears and chris brown!
Wow I thought this was Richard Thompson when I first heard it! Oh, hey, it is Richard Thomson! I am so smart! What a stupid song. Who sings about the ridiculous, idiotic, stupidity of going to war with the stench of rotting corpses and the horror of killing people just because you can??? It must be Richard Thompson!
But seriously - THANKS FOR POSTING THIS SONG! Richard still rocks and still writes great songs about the ironies and sicknesses of the human condition. THANKS RICHARD! I love you!
I don't get why people get so elitist about a show or other "mainstream" method bringing people to a band. You would think a true fan would be happy that the band has gained popularity and more people have been exposed to them.
I gotta admit, i also came here because of SoA, but after listening to the song while reading the lyrics, i gotta admit..its a very powerful song in its own right, love the topic it covers. Great song
