The key to any 'chroma' effect is to ensure that the background has a consistent color throughout. When you begin editing your video, you tell the software to 'ignore' a certain color. If that color changes across the backdrop, or you have lighting hot spots, then the color is not consistent and you'll have difficulty 'keying out' the color.
Therefore, I recommend ALWAYS using good, diffused lighting to evenly illuminate what ever chroma background that you use.

very very helpful. thanks so much! another program to use if you have a mac imovie 11' can be bought in the app store search ilife $14.99 (itunes money)
Everything that you do is a product of what you see like it or not. If you dont see it you will be flat, without purpose and scattered. When the going gets a bit tough as it surely will at times, search your mind for your very own success picture and keep it in focus. Its a great pick-me-up. But more than that you have something to reach for. If your picture is somewhat blurred tidy it up, make it smart and desirable.
It's not always green screen - see my reply "to KryptoniteAceHD 1 month ago
They work pretty similar, depends what colors you prefer. For example if you love wearing blue shirts... you should use green screen.
The movie industry shifted from blue screen to using green for the most part today. I have read the reason though is not due to quality, but rather that actors got more depressed when they had to spend many days in a totally blue studio while green had a more pleasant..
@packleader1215 it's to do with camera sensitivity with digital video and green - green works best for keying, in the days of film - blue was the best colour.

Yes + No. Depends on what effect is satisfying enough to you.
When you have proper illumination, and NO shadows falling on the green background, in the video the outline between the person and the background will be a sharp contour.
If you have shadows during filming, in the video this areas around the person will be looking blurry. Something like a 'pixelated`' area. It will not look as a clear sharp gray shadow line. Yet, it may be a sufficient effect of a real shadow.. Go try.
@TWINSnik Find a local store specialized on photography equipment, professional cameras and similar stuff, maybe even some decoration stores like theatre equipment etc. All that could have to do with lights, stage/entertainment equipment and such.
Professional photography and video suppliers in the first place. May be rare, but usually you can find one in every city.
Other than that just try to buy a green cloth, but pay attention the GREEN is really a BRIGHT GREEN, or it will not work.
Hello, Thanks for posting the video. I like your Creation Room!! I have made some green screen vids in my room as well. Have a look.. You can also use a program called WAX2.0 that you can download online for free. Just do a Google search and you will find it easy. Best of Everything, Dale Werner
I already know everything you said in this video but I still watched this to the end. You made such a professional job making this video... rated 5 STARS
where do you get them lights and what are they called because i am searching for lights but they come up for like 100£ and what and what ever in $ please let me know and i will sub
lol ... they will simply look like having no hair or transparent heads :))) A nice effect for alien movies or so :)
Paint your face blue and your shirt will be moving without a head... wohooo HAPPY HALLOWEEN btw.!!!
OK but if you DO want to see green/blue hair... simply use ANY other background color! The cromakey efect actually works with any backdrop color. Just combine the colors wisely ;o)
Hi, I'm just starting to get into green screen work. I did a successful test shot using bright green posterboard, and Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus. I've got a 6 by 9 green screen sheet and stand on the way. Thanks for this well done tutorial. :)
well, not really that way. WinMovie maker has an option they call "blue sreen/green screen" effect, but it is a little a fake effect. it turns out good enough for some purposes. But it is more a pic in pic thing. Has nothing to do with chromakey effect. With WinMovie Maker you CANNOT use your green sreen recorded video for the wished effect. With Movie Maker you technically cannot remove the green color in the background. So the desired effect willnot work.
Well in a dark room or e.g. garage with no sun light from outside at all, you will simply need more lights. How many? As many as needed to illuminate the screen brightly enough, and without shadows inbetween.
In rooms with sufficient sunlight coming in - like in my room shown in the video, on sunny days I don't even need any other lights at all, besides the bright day light. And the quality of the effect so EXCELLENT - even better than with using lights at night.
Movie maker has an option they call "blue screen" that pretends that effect. But you cannot really replace the background behind you on video. Movie Maker calls this "blue screen" what is something "almost" like rhe real blue screen. They have an option to tweak something like picture over picture. But you cannot put yourself in front, and exchange the background behind you like real green screen/blue screen technology makes it.
Great job on the video and information. It was very simple as well as understandable. I have a thought. You say that blue screen works better for someone who is more light hair and you use the green screen because your hair is dark. Let's say your interviewing someone who is blond. Your both sitting on stools and behind you is a green screen and behind the blond person is a blue screen. Just curious about your thought on that technique? Thanks in advance.
Actually I believe it would not make much of a difference. The blue backdrop has been used for many years in the film industry, and obviously worked well. Then green baceme more popular. I was curious about the difference, and the result of my research was that when actors spent whole days in a completely blue studio they were tending to get depressed. Blue is a dark cold color. While big green studios seemed to have a more cheerful impact on the psyche. That is one story I have found.
And like said in the video, the other explanation I found is to just keep in mind that the contrast with dark colors might work better with green which is brighter. While light colors (like blond hair) result in a sharper contrast with a blue.
This is just an orientation. Both blue/green actually work fine.
And I can tell that I was wearing a white shirt with a green backdrop, and it absolutely worked well. (you can see that video in my favourites). Hope that helps :)
