  • Can't stand how they re-done the dub voices for the re-release...... just isn't the same.

  • Love This movie

  • The whole soundtrack is really incredible. Need to see this flick again.

  • i watched many animes but never stumbled upon this one.

    watched it yesterday. masterpiece!

  • when in the fuckin hell are they gonna give the Manga a greater adaptation then the original Animé?

I've been a die hard fan of this movie since i first saw it(even loving the original english orion dub) but anyone who has read the manga will agree that Akira could be a great trilogy if they adapt it fully(apart from maybe the ending, always liked the movie better for that)

  • My dad has a t-shirt of this image

  • @deadguynumbr6 Your dad is awesome ;D

  • なるほど・・・原曲はこれだったのか

  • I've seen everything about this movie except the movie itself and I want to see it so bad.

  • @MegaFloydhead It is one of the greatest movies of all time i guarentee you

  • @deadguynumbr6 My awesome movie senses are tingling!

  • GROOVE...

  • fuck off reddit

  • @happysweeto Let the U.S. Government keep making the mistakes that it has and I can guarantee that the people will violently protest against its mistakes.

  • CANADA!

  • @themetalhead667 Probably, but I choose Star Wars because of its big impact on the cinema realm. But then again, 2001 did have a big effects as well...

  • @BrimstoneLandscapes I did. But watching anime in their original dubs DOES help big time...

  • i love this movie, and this music is so fitting [:

  • イェs! 4jpn

  • 12 people is clown death

  • This movie is my favourite, and Back to the future

  • what instrument are those kind of xylophoney drums?

  • @redsox1024 Sounds very much like a gamelan orchestra, but not certain.

  • are the lyrics to this song the characters names from the movie?

  • Very very rarely do english dubs work better than japanese subs, the biggest example i can think of is Cowboy bebop.

  • @gooched

    Dragon ball z?

  • @K4inan I don't know...I guess? A lot of westerners don't seem to like goku's voice but i think it's pretty iconic and goes well with his inner child quirk.

  • @gooched Code geass?

  • When I watch anime, I always turn on the Japanese dub and English subs because I want to know what they are saying and then compare it to the English dub. In almost all anime out there, even in the Miyazaki films, NONE of the English dubs stick to the original Japanese dub.

Besides, I like how the Japanese talk with their language and you are learning it as they are speaking.

  • @TheYuuzhan "and you are learning it as they are speaking." Hahaha, no you're not you fucking tool. Get your head out of your ass and take a course if you want to learn the language.

  • @tommaspawn I dunno man, I find myself headbanging a lil' bit, albeit lightly... :D

  • @GWash1776 it definitely does have have a nice rythm for mild head-bangery, i must admit.

  • 12 people diddn't like the fact that they couldn't head bang to this music

  • @smearyllama Then that means you have the old Streamline dub of AKIRA. By the way you guys, I prefer the Japanese dub over both the Streamline and Pioneer because it sounds so amazing! Besides, by listening to the Japanese dub, you are, in a way, essentially learning Japanese...

  • @TheYuuzhan

subs over dubs, you tell em buddy

  • Found this on VHS at a books store for ninety-five cents yesterday. I plan on watching it if I can get the VHS player to work.

  • @smearyllama do it - it's worth the effort!

  • akira is one of the most confusingly good animes i have ever seen, and the soundtrack is memorable

  • @metalsonic641 any anime is confusing for any white person

  • @0Letten0

i guess, if you're retarded or something..

  • @2Dsuperhero DON'T YOU LIE TO ME BOY! Don't tell me that when you saw your first anime, you were like:"yeah, sure this isn't weird at all".

  • No, I fucking picked up a knife and killed the family cat the first time I saw an anime.

  • @0Letten0

and then i cut my eyes out and sewed them to the outside of my eyelids so i can always see, everything

  • Russera russera russe russe russera!

  • Hollyweird is making a live action movie of Akira, I don't know whether to laugh or cry :-\

  • @Seabeast14 not anymore, Warner bros. shut the production down...

  • @Seabeast14 Warner Bros have halted it's production

  • That Bike is still best looking concept bike I have ever seen....someone need to make that and put it on the market cos I would buy that shit....and I hate bikes in general..

  • That moment when you come back to listen to a song and go to thumbs up the top comment.. and realize that it's yours. :D

  • First time I've ever headbanged to a dude playing a grand-marimba...

  • I was aware of Akira evern since Cougar video was around. Though I never watched it as it was rated R, but I thought it was by Miyazaki. I actually had a dream where I was watching this film on Toonami. Funny thing, I woke up rather bedwetty.

10 years later, and I was 17 here, I saw the film at UVU. When I got out of the building, I was completely...........................................

  • it is like balinese gambelan caled jegog, nice music

  • Shotaro Kaneda is the 11th most popular anime character of all time (says IGN, who is the only site out there with a top anime character list)...

  • I think this movie proved the massive potential and uniqueness of the anime industry , it's such a pity that producers in Japan are still incapable, even 24 years later, of releasing a title of the magnitude that was and still is 'Akira'. Truly such a shame...the only exception might be Cowboy Bebop and a few others, Ghost in the shell was a little boring for me.

  • @qu3ter Several movies and series are really good. I thought Summer Wars was really well done. Baccano was a great series. I've only seen GitS SAC so I can't speak for the movies but I would say most people find them boring is because it's such a serious anime.

  • @qu3ter Hayao Miyazaki has made quite a few animated movies with an impact, many of which are even popular in the United States. Have a look at Princess Mononoke, an excellent movie which was the highest grossing film until Titanic eclipsed it.

  • I never want this song to end.

  • Yeah, I just said that because I thought it was interesting. Besides, I always here a lot of people talk about English anime voice actors. What about Japanese ones? They deserve credit, too.

  • In this film, he does the role of Ryusaku; Kei's fellow revolutionary. But in other anime, he does Masami Iwaki (Dokaben), Suppaman (Dr. Slump and Arale-chan), Gō Reietsu (High School! Kimengumi), Optimus Prime (A.K.A. Convoy) (The Transformers), Umibouzu (City Hunter), Ichimi Araiwa (Cooking Papa), Action Kamen (Crayon Shin-chan), and the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox (Naruto). He is also the current Japanese voice of Tigger in Winnie the Pooh media.

  • Here is an interesting fact on Akira. One of the Japanese voice actors in the film is none other than Tessho Genda. He is 63 years old and, with over 200 roles credited to his name, is one of Japan's most prolific voice actors.

  • This was the first anime I ever watched and still 15 years later remains one of my favorites.

  • By the way, when I first heard this theme, I thought the Japanese singers were saying "RASENGAN". But now, I have been proven wrong.

  • If Star Wars showed the whole world that nothing is impossible in the cinema realm, then it is Akira that showed the whole world that nothing is impossible for the anime, and manga, realm...

I'm not sure if that was a good example.

  • @TheYuuzhan I think 2001 would be a better example than star wars

  • When it comesto anime, if you want to know how excellent they can be, you must first listen to their music. From there, you will have a hint of what its themes are and what it is about. In the case of Akira, OH MY GOD!!!

    This music is excellent!

  • Asera, Asera, Aseraserasera...

  • me facina

  • Who do you think has been the best from these Kaneda voice actors?

    Cam Clarke 18.2% (4 votes)

  • I don't know why they're trying to make a live action movie out of this? Kristen Stewart? F****** serious? why not remake the anime but with the good stuff and important parts in it?? Sounds like a much better idea to me. I <3 this song. And Kaneda ^.^

  • @MusicMaestro152 Remake the anime?

Why not tell AKIRA the way it was supposed to be told and make an anime OVA series with high-quality animation like the movie but base it directly off the manga? The movie only encompassed 1/3 of the actual story.

  • @EndreVanan Not even 1/3 of the movie was based on the akira manga (I've read it) because a bunch of it was added on, like the fact that Kaori was Tetsuo's friend before he changed, and how akira was dead! What i meant was that yeah, an anime series of it to include the small details that weren't shown, like Chiyoko who helped a bunch

  • @MusicMaestro152 Many things from the general 1/3 of the manga were covered, but it's only inevitable that things were added or altered. The manga wasn't even done when the movie came out. :l

  • @EndreVanan Yeah, but i hope they will do one, maybe bring some justice to the 2000+ page epic that is Akira (Stupid Hollywood; trying to make a live action movie out of it!! Bleh)

  • @MusicMaestro152 How can you say the live action movie is already bad before it's even out? I think that it's impossible to ruin AKIRA. I'm personally going to give it a chance, which I didn't give for Dragonball: Evolution or The Last Airbender for personal reasons. Sometimes live action movies turn out great. Like the Speed Racer movie.

  • @EndreVanan Um, did you see the cast that they already have picked out? i would never give it a chance: they'd ruin it like they always do. case and point.

  • @MusicMaestro152 How could you diss a movie before it's out, regardless of who's in it? You still aren't making valid counter-points. I'm going to give the movie a chance and see it in the theaters. Who knows, maybe it'll be good, maybe it'll be bad? Only time will tell.

  • @EndreVanan This is my opinion and it isn't going to change. if you want to see it, go ahead, be my guest. besides, this is your business if you're going to see it, not mine.

  • I think Dragon Ball Z: Return of Cooler had some inspirations of this. FFVII probably too.

  • Remake, this movie/manga doesn't need on

  • wish this was longer :(

possibly my favourite song of all time

  • I'm a leaf in the wind! ;)

  • @lestef23 watch how i soar..

  • I love how atypical this soundtrack is. None of the obvious orchestral strings or french horn cues. This sound has stuck with me more than any other aspect of the film.

  • @Brycefied yeah!!!!

  • @Brycefied I agree, and this is one of my favorite tracks from the whole movie. Great song from a great movie!

  • The us plot sounds stupid

  • @MrHaxxis Yup.

  • Honestly, why care. either it will be good, or it will be bad. Watch it, judge it then leave it behind unless it was a good movie. Alot of people just say "oh my god by remaking it they will destroy it" ... how? The old movie is still there, it's epic, it's awesome it's still there. A new remake won't change ANYTHING, and by the way, you don't have to watch the remake if you feel so upset about it.

  • @HanFanGames people are so lame......glad to find an exception.....

  • awesome theme here wow cool

  • I really hope this movie isnt a flonk this is the best animated movie in history and to ruin it wont make them money u see if they go complety original they will actuall make money all over the world everywear especially on dvd put some asian duds dont put no leanardo dicaprio or some zack afran shit put some japenese duds.

  • @animegeek27 my biggest worry is the director, their resume is way to spotty for me to relax

  • The big city really can be a jungle sometimes...

  • I swear to god, I really could cry. I don't know what it is, but this song just DOES it completely for me. Same with "Exodus from the underground fortress"

  • hm ich bin blond

  • Original ver "Kanedaaaaaaaaaa" "Tetsuoooooooooo!!!"

    Hollywood "Bob~~~~~~!" "Joeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!"

  • i'm going to see the live action movie because i'm curious to see how they do it, will it be like the original movie or will it be more accurate to the original novel. and if they do go for the novel route: will it be in several parts so they can fit everything in or are they going to be a bunch of idiots and summarize everything

OR will it take place overseas and they will use the ideas and concepts of the original and adapt them to a western society

so many ways to go that i have to find out

  • @meapickle Every one of those potential outcomes is a bad one. They don't need to, or have NO reason to, remake a perfect film.

  • @welwise i don't believe for a second that it'll be nearly as good as the original. but i want to see if they play it safe or take risks, and if by doing something different, they find something that the original may not of had (yes i doubt what i just said)

and how that difference works out. either way, this is a film that is on most lists of top 100 films of all time. they can't just throw a half baked job together and stamp the name on it, they have to try if they want to do this

  • @meapickle Yes, but I doubt they're going to. It'll be a made-for-profit remake that'll be a disgrace to the original, yet become much more popular. I hope I get proven wrong, but judging from every other fucking remake of amazing movies out there, I don't have much hope.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 i will admit, they should change directors asap, to one that has a less spotty resume

  • If u listen closley near the end there are singing testuo'o and kenda makustao hogarea and something else i cant spell.

  • @animegeek27 kaneda Tetsuo Kei Yagamata ? Main characters? not sure

  • @animegeek27

It happens a couple times in the vocals.

    "Kanedaaaaaa Tetsuoooooooooo"

  • @Minatoleekrinaze Yea im listening to it and your right sorry about that.

  • Imagine if that power was real

  • 12 clowns better lay low!

  • @DersimLondon People how is his comment spam dang people can be extreamly dumb!

  • OK, one more time:TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the most amazing soundtracks ever, the whole thing is worth listening too.

  • As each day passes, this movie is becoming more & more realistc.

    Akira!!!

  • @Loudkorean ummmm how? i dont see any kids who could blow up cities and cause big bangs

  • @downwiththemaster The whole government takeover portion. Rioting, etc etc

  • Rassera rassera rasserasse rassera !!!!!!!

  • awwwwwwsome

  • needs more percussion

  • @03lucky Stop critising i bet you cant do better so no offense but shut up.

  • Never notticed before, but the lyrics are just the names of the characters.

  • A live action Akira needs to be at least a trilogy to get it as near as possible to the original manga.

  • @rozz6398 : one can ONLY hope thats the route they'll go.

  • IF they would have followed the manga story line, then this movie would have been like 4-5hrs long. I remember being a kid and they would have this movie on the infommercials and I had the mom order it. Loved it ever since only $9.95. I love the short sound track with tetsuo has that evil look in his eyes and another time when he is in the bar, then when he is rising out the fire.BAD ASS!!!

  • what a song ....

  • but they can't make Akira movie if they have no rights, right? blame the creators then, who sold the rights to the hollywood

  • Also the people complaining about a live action Akira, would you complain about the recent live action Space Battleship Yamato movie? If not, then your problem is not with anime->live action it's anime->hollywood.

And I dunno about anyone else but I would LOVE to see the robotech movie get made.

  • HUSSIE RA HUSSIE RA HUSSIE HUSSIE HUSSIE RA

  • I didn't knew Kaneda was the main chracter. I always thought it was Tesuo because all the Akira music videos that I saw. I was actually surprised when i saw the movie.

    Great movie, indeed.

  • It's Mister Kaneda to you, punk!

  • RASE-RAH! RASE-RAH! RASE-RAH!

  • Akira, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Ghost in the Shell and End of Evangelion are my favorite animated classic movies. You don't see much animation films like this anymore that had a good plot, realistic characters, excellent soundtrack, etc.

  • WOW....9 YEARS OLD WATCHING THIS ON THE BIG SCREEN....PROBABLY SCREWED YOUR HEAD UP FOR LIFE...

  • @TETTSUUO That's kind of ironic of American ignorance found in parents back in the 90's. My mom rented this and ghost in the shell back when I was 10 & 11, thinking "Oh it's a cartoon, it must be for kids." Even though I didn't know what I saw, I still feel that her ignorance benifited me artistically every since. These classic movies, music and art has inspired me to be more open minded about the worldviews artistically.

  • @joshualawrencedrake My dad did the same thing with Neon Genesis Evengelion.. xDD

  • @TETTSUUO it F**Ked me up mentally lol i was in 2nd grade when i watched this on the Syfi channel back in 93 its a good anime

  • @jeasocrazy LOL...watching this movie young definately messes with your head...but looking back,i would have to say,it was a positive experience in the long run...it tought me about government and society...and where we are right now as a species....VERY heavy stuff for a kid...LOL

  • AKIRA IS DA BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheAltair4

It's such an influential movie that i think it also influenced Batman TAS's style as Bruce Timm is a fan. Wasn't it cool Keneda was voiced by Leonardo from Ninja Turtles known as Cam Clarke? did you also thought "Holy shit, that's leonardo from Ninja Turtles" when you heard his voice?

  • @Johnlindsey289 lol. Yeah, i recognized Cam's voice as Keneda almost immediately when i first saw it and this may have been an influence on Batman TAS and maybe even Spawn. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Wicked City, Fist of the North Star, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away & Totoro are my top ten favorite animes.

  • This should be the soundtrack to Occupy Oakland!!!!

  • @USmarinePunk

If I recall Neo Tokyo was facing shit loads of violent student protests??

  • I can hear "Kanedaaaaaa".....

THAT'S MISTER KANEDA TO YOU PUNK

  • @wrangleroooo

idk how this got spamed, people should know of this

  • guess what, i heard the live action akira movie finally got green lighted...honestly the opinion on this will be all over the place

  • 8,000 views in a day? O.o

  • akira will never work as a live action movie

  • gives me chills everytime

  • It's just THE best manga ever !!!! Katsuhiro Ôtmo is my god !!!!! \o/

  • Kaneda,Testuo;Water,Fire;Yin,Yang;Life,Death; They're characters were so different but so unusually linked and dependent on each other. I truly think that the two of them alone carried the entire fim. Who cares about Akira.

  • @DrWestofReanimation I'm just a tad confused. Was Spiderman originally meant to be Asian?

  • @KurizuKurizu No, I was saying would anyone mind? In this day and age? Probably, but most people are small. My point is, Live-action Akira doesn't have to have all Asian actors, just put the actor that fits the bill. Not on origin, but acting prowess.

  • great film!

  • Anime and Live action are two entirely different mediums, and certain concepts and ideas translate better in one or the other. There is no REASON there ever should be a live action Akira, or any anime->live action remake. The genre exists in this mold and form for a reason.

  • @CombatF0rk There is some good reason. I'm not the type who grows too old for animation, but there are those who do. When Watchmen debuted in Live-Action it got a much bigger, and much more different audience in addition to the original graphic novel's audience. Some of those who saw the film checked out the original source material. I don't think there is anything wrong with drawing more attention to something that deserves it.

  • @CombatF0rk there is to to western film makers...... easy money. The sad thing is many people growing up have no idea what Akira is around here..... they will be the easy money..... Any Akira fan that sees this in the theater is a tool. Even the anime couldn't fully translate the manga onto film let alone live action......

America's movie machine has turned into a farmers manure spreader for some time now anyways..... All I expect from them is trash....

  • @CombatF0rk now if only Hollywood would realize that.

  • @CombatF0rk its to make money, hollywood is out of ideas. They have been talking about this movie a long time, but they made it now because of hte lack of ideas.

  • @CombatF0rk well, that's kinda like saying hey lets not make anime, and just make manga.

  • @EARdraum It isn't, actually. Some mangas would work better when animated, and some wouldn't. That's actually the whole point I was making.

  • @CombatF0rk But there is nothing wrong with sharing something great with more people. Watchmen got more recognition when the film hit theaters.

Isn't this movie only half the story anyway? Couldn't a re-release be split into two separate films to get the whole story?

  • @CombatF0rk in japan they remake anime movies all the time into live action.............pwnd

  • @CombatF0rk - You ever heard of the Matrix? That was essentially live action anime. While the idea of a live action remake of Akira is not an appealing prospect, I do believe that it is acceptable for artists to have the opportunity to remake past works and in doing so, potentially create something better or of equal value. Shakespeare, probably the most renown playright in the english speaking world based many of his plays on stories that already existed. Disney does the same.

  • @CombatF0rk

to be honest, i want this to happen just to see what they do and how they handle it for better or for worse

  • @CombatF0rk I totally agree with you. That's one reason people make animated films, to do what live action cannot.

  • @muziazuki It took Japan4 years to make that and 5 years and the live action one still isnt out yet so this basicly proves you guys points.

  • @CombatF0rk AGREED!

  • music is beautiful

  • Cartoons in the late 80's and 90's......so.... good

  • trippy song

  • I really hope that hollywood will **not** get the contract to make this into a live-action movie!! Even if they do, I will refuse to watch it.

  • @DrWestofReanimation Even a faithful adaptation with good directing, editing, and a
