Why are there so many songs called overture?

@chrisredfiud Overture basically means the introductory music. It's roughly equivalent to a book's "Prologue." Your question asked another way is: Why are there so many book chapters called "Prologue"? It's just the way things are usually done. The introductory music is titled Overture, the first portion of the book is titled Prologue, the last chapter is titled Epilogue, etc.
