This variety, as you can read at 0:05, is called Jala. It's from Jala Valley, it's ancient.
As you can see the weeds on the ground at the begining is oxalis, this indicate a severe washing-up of nutrient in the soil, it can lead to the destructuration of clay. When clay liberate its Al+++ and Fe+++, it intoxicate the soil and then go into the plant, the grain. Food, grain, cattle meat fill with Al+++, so it give neuro-degeneratives issues.
Use 1 ft. of ramial chipped wood to restore the soil.
This corn variety Isn't modified, it is an ancient variety from central America that naturally grows to 15-25 feet tall. Today's corn has been modified to be short, and produce smaller more plentiful kernels.
@joemartin1957 : I always wanted to grow corn because I love eating them. But this guy has the music on. I can't hear anything he said. I wish he turn off the stupid music. Anyway, I think the giant corn is genetically modified. Natural corn don't get that tall. It's against nature. I wouldn't touch it if I were you.
some d-bag from monsanto will be bye to see you... he'll have a FAT check for you fo r your seeds... you MUST NOT SELL... dna test your corn seed first... and then that will protect you from infringement that they will most likely try to do.
you are welcome to charger them after that something in the ballpark of like a million bucks per seed
@teflondon91 No its not. It is a known line breed. People who do GMOs are not interested in making tall stalks. They are more interested in disease and pesticide resistance.
Ive got some cross polinated ancient corn seed but they only gave tiny cobs with like 10 kernels on them. Any idea what Im doing wrong that they dont get large cobbs?
What kind of corn did you plant? From what I understand, corn is 'short' today b/c it has been bred that way through crossbreeding. Farmers don't want/need tall corn. It blows over, as you've shown, and the plant puts more energy into vegetative vs. reproductive growth (the ear). Still, those are some awesome looking plants! If you've got no ears and it's tasseling? You won't get ears. The tassels (male flower) shed pollen (seed) to the tassels on the ears, thus fertilizing the flower.
@specfever exactly. my professor told me about this phenomenon. the seed is probably from a plant cultivated around the equator where there is an even 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. if you were to plant these seeds in the northern united states in the summer, where there could be 18 hours of light per day in the summer; the plant is photosynthesizing longer and therefore producing far more vegetative growth.
holy crap!!!! It looks like a dang bamboo forest!! The corn plants are FREAKING HUGE!!! I have no room 4 that! It's amazing you grew them right by your house!
Is this classified as "Frankenfood" or is the soil just full of nitrogen? because these things seem to either be Genetically Modified or the soil is literally all Nitrogen.
This is amazing though! One ear off these could feed a starving family! haha
You could add more soil to the base of the plants as they get taller, at like week 2 with yours mound up a bunch of soil around the base and the support roots with take hold, then add more soil as they get taller... nice plants! gonna watch vid 2 now.
Thanks for the video dude. I am bout' to grow me some corn for the first time . Now I have a guide line . very detailed video about corn . (from seed. one week two month ect. tear down)((Amazing)) Props for your crops . nice 25 ft corn That must be a New Record. Wow! -_-
Seeing the corn messed up by the storms was almost sad- and im sure it took you a while to get all the corn braced with the rope... wow... im impressed. gong to watch part 2 now..
You could have started them indoors

Why would anyone want corn that large? It would lay over and it's using all of its energy to grow stalk and not ears.

When corn stalks hits 20 feet or higher it makes it much harder to produce full healthy ears of corn.
