The Tim Burton Batman movies are the best ones, they're stylish, dark, funny and have great casts. Keaton is a great Batman and Jack Nicholson IS the joker.
I actually enjoyed Batman Forever, sure it's silly and over the top but very entertaining. Batman and Robin.......ugh!
I thought Batman Begins was shit and although i really enjoyed The Dark Knight, especially Heath Ledger as the joker i thought it took itself way too seriously with a convoluted plot and poorly edited action scenes.
Everything after Batman and Batman Returns was total shit imo. Nolan films were good, but not as good as the video games or the comics. Can't stress enough how god fucking awful Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were.
Ugh, Batman annoys me to no end. There are just to many inconsistencies and plot holes to keep me from enjoying it. Batman Returns is even worse. It really has no idea what it set out to do and seems to be a mish-mash of three different stories. The Tim Burton Batman films are decent to poor movies, and absolutely godawful Batman adaptations.
I saw Batman 1989 and Returns in theaters when i was 8 and 11 about 5 times on each, i had the merchandise, ate the cereals, had the games for NES and SNES, watched the 60's show and watched the animated show religiously. Nicholson did nice as Joker as did Mark Hamil and Ledger, Devito was great as Penguin as was Paul WIlliams and Burgess Merideth and same for Catwoman played by Pfefier, Andrienne Barbeau and Julie Newmar
I actually prefer Michael Keaton than Christian Bale. Even though Bale can pull off the rich prick character I feel like he was too complex a character. The "average guy" character that Keaton plays was pretty good.
I actually prefer Michael Keaton than Christian Bale. Even though Bale can pull off the rich prick character I feel like he was too complex a character. The "average guy" character that Keaton plays was pretty good.
LOL In Batman Returns sayin the following; "To me the weirdest scene was ____ fill in the blank" is saying a LOT, I mean you could fill that space with 8 outta eery ten scenes in the film!! I mean literally, try it! lol for every ten scenes tell me whether or not 8 out of them could not fit in that blank lol
I don't think or find that the music make the film dated. I think music, GOOD to GREAT music is TIMEless so it can't be dated. I mean its a sound track of Batman NOT Beatles lol so i cant be dated,..just IMHO! btw the whole thing of Batman "killing" in the first (2) movies and the batwing firing at Joker where YOU guys seem to think is OFF target all tho to me there are more than a few explanations (to me they aren't even necessary it wouldn't even cross my mind but if U guys wanna know aske me)
CAN'T TELL U how SICK I am of people whining over that 'off target aerial asssault of missles and cannon fire as well as the 'lucky & incredible shot' of the Joker. 1ST off, so he "missed", maybe he was not exactly AIMing for the him &/or MAYbe he either simply MISSED OR on target or not it was meant to be 1of those INTIMIDATE non letah firing JUST how he did with the Tumbler to the Chechen & Scarecrow's men in The Dark Knight! As for the Joker, he HIT the ENGINE with like a modified 50 CALIBER!
I'll prob get a lot of heat for this, but I honestly say 89 and Returns were the best for me and yes Keaton and Nicholson were my favorite Batman and Joker respectfully
I love Batman,I read Batman,I watch the shows,and I've seen all the movies,but I'm not gonna lie,I genuinely enjoyed Batman and Robin. Like it's not really great,but I wouldn't just say it's 100% terrible,'cause it's not.
@battlefield3media I liked it,but it's not my favorite,Tim Burton didn't need to do that to all the characters. Like why is penguin an actual penguin? What happened to him just being a fat mobster, then why does Catwoman have to have things like those stitches on her costume? Tim Burton visuals are better when it comes to animation.Still a good movie, but not my favorite.Batman is more then just completely evil and dark.
batman forever sucks i mean why was two face trying to copy the joker and the ridder jim carry? are they high on drugs the ridder is suppose to be serious hes not suppose to mock the joker like batman forever if batman forever made the villians more serious it would be a good movie i bet tim burton thought joel shoemockers ideas sucked and man was he right joels ideas suck for making a batman film
@PleaseHelpMeWithFIFA Actually, Michael Keaton's Batman used to kill until something happened in Returns where he swore not to kill after Catwoman tried to murder someone as an act for revenge.
Batman(1989) & Batman Forever are my favorite live action adaptations of Batman. i could care less about those christopher nolan movies that came out in 2005 & 2008 as well as the 1 coming out in 2012
Wait wait, Danny Devito plays as the penguin, I never notice that. Well since I'm already commenting about the penguin, I have to say that he looks amazing in the movie.
It's strange. I like Michael Keaton's Batman, and I like Tim Burton, but I was never really that fond of the Time Burton Batman films. It's odd, because you'd think Burton would be a perfect fit for the franchise, but his Batman films never felt quite right to me.
@3271westy I respect your opinion but I think Christian Bale was an okay batman but a far better bruce and I think he fits my image as Bruce and Michael Keaton Batman and a great voice for Bruce.
AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE FOLLOWING: No, I don't think it was just that ONE lil movie that Keaton was in that brought him ALL the hate for being up for the batman role. Was it the most controversial and the most USED diss against him/reason sited that he should NOT be anywhere near this part? OF COURSE!! I mean who wants Mr. Mom as batman?? < and that quote alone is not original its what fans were saying at the time! BUT it was not the ONLY issue. HE WAS NOT IN SHAPE and didnt GET in SHAPE!!!

"I give it three happy meals, wrapped in chains with dead cats and penguins impaled on it with knives, And a killer bat on top." Best. Quote. EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I gotta disagree with the nerd as well. Batman Returns is definitely one of the best. I just love the atmosphere of it, and the scene where the Penguin bites the guys nose didn't feel out of place, the guy was being a jerk towards him, he played off the scene great. I remember the movie freaked me out as a kid, and watching it now, I can remember why, but I love it all the more. But it's your opinion, not a collective, and we'll just agree to disagree.
I really like Batman Returns, but I could see why some might have problems with it. Burton kind of went overboard on the set design that time. It was more like Tim Burtonland than Gotham City.
The thing is that he doesn't look like Batman at all. When I think of Batman, I think of a tall, muscular, black-haired man and not someone who looks like an investmen banker in his forties.
the alfred from 1989 to 1997 live action movies is still my favorite... batman and robin sucked, but i did feel really really sad about alfred being sick in that movie :(
Where in Batman was it indicated that Joker knw Batmans Identity?
Batman never said who he was he just said "You killed my parents" but Jokers killed alot of people how is he going to figure those 2 people were in particular were Batmans parents?
Sorry, I gotta disagree with the nerd on this one. I believe Batman Returns is still the best Batman movie ever, much better than the past ones and than Nohlan's. (I would say it's also better than Schumacher's, but for me those two pieces of crap don't even count.)
Nohlan’s versions are great as action movies, but Batman Returns is better as a comic book movie. It reflects the true essence of the Batman world: gothic, elegant, inhuman and unreal at the same time. The most important aspect of a good comic book movie is that it represents the same aesthetic of the original source in the big screen (because comics are basically graphic media). It’s not about making it look more CGI “realistic” or “exciting”, like Nohlan does.
Dude his name is Nolan not Nohlan. Theres one CRUCIAL part of Batman that the old movies never captured, the fact that everyones scared of Batman and that hes considered a villain outcast despite what he does. This is so important and it wasn't until the dark knight (end) where we saw it finally. Thing is a comic book movie isn't anything special now. Its actually kinda bland. For its time maybe and I do agree to some extent they are better COMIC movies, but no at the same time.
Another thing, Keaton was an ok Batman but he was too boring. in fact those old movies can get REALLY boring. Sure the voice in the new one is kinda weird, at least his characters are very set. It would be impossible to tell Wayne from Batman as Wayne is an asshole. It actually is about making it real but only for Batman. Why? BECAUSE BATMANS SUPPOSED TO BE A REAL TYPE HERO. He has no powers, his creators made him for a sense of realism. Also corruptions is seen way better in TDK
I think you're right about the way Nolan makes the characters: with more depth and issues, like real people are. But I prefer Burton's aesthetic approach: more gothic and surreal, like the batman comics are. For instance, Nolan makes Gotham City look just like any other American modern city. And why do we need to know the technical aspects of all of Batman's equipment: the suit, the gliding cape, the batmovile/tumbler, etc? It's fine to make the characters realistic, but why everything else too?
Wah wah wah? Maybe its because I live in Florida but I have never seen a city like Gotham. I really don’t think Burtons was more gothic, definitely surreal. Theres nothing special with doing that man. Why DON’T we get to know all that? That’s what makes Batman Batman. I really can’t figure out why a real Batman fan would question why we should learn about Batman.
@yamisupersaiyan Well, cities like Chicago are a lot like that. And we should know all about batman, the character, not about his equipment. But anyway, there comes a point when it's exclusively a matter of preferences.
@nonh1 I will agree on one point, the old films are definitely more comic ATMOSPHERIC. As for Batman himself, the newer movies definitely get him better. It not just about realism, its knowing how Batman does what he does which I for one found incredibly interesting. Also one thing just kills the old Batman films for me. The fact that Joker killed Bruces parents. Like what the hell, how much more cliché can you get
@nonh1 WOPW thats a BOLD statement!! Can you back it up or is it jsut yoru opinion in the sense that the film does it for you and no one can change that b/c its your taste. I mean if thats the case it could be as organic yet vague as whether or not you like Big Macs or not. OR is there a reason. Like you have evidence that t his movie (Returns) speaks to the comic book Batman movie the best (which I DEFincately can't see that being the case lol
@CubbieBear1980 Well, when it comes to art (cinema included) there is no kind of "evidence" to support a statement, because it's a matter of interpretation (or opinion), not of science. Of course you have to explain your interpretation and ground it somehow in the material you're analyzing, so it's not just a subjective and plain declaration of "taste", but that doesn't mean your interpretation pretends to be law. The reasons for my statement are included (yet abridged) in the statement itself.
I rather liked Batman Returns. I didn't love it, but I liked it. It was stylized. It's good for the same reason Team Fortress 2 is good: you don't have to take it too seriously.
By far I think Jack Nicholson played the best Joker. Yes I know I'm getting to get a lot of hating for this, but I did not like Heath Ledger as the joker at all, it's only because he just didn't portray a non-serious criminal who's always playing mind games and let's face it, he never joked at all throughout the whole movie.
Are you sure McDonald's canceled the movie promotion? I know I had the Batmobile toy and I thought it came from McDonald's in 1991 or 1992, after the first Batman film, so it should have come from Batman Returns.
4:44 in fact the f1rst Dracula movie is Dracula's Death, a 1921 Hungarian horror movie, currently believed to be a lost film. It was made one year before Nosferatu.
I don't care what anyone says I'll always love Michelle Pfieffer as Catwoman. As Selina Kyle she's sympathetic, sad and lonely, but as Catwoman she's soooo delightfully demented.
i like the new movies but not the batman suit and how christian puts his voice as batman but i cant wait for Batman arkham city thats goin to be awesome
@Cinemassacre when Two-face died in Batman forever i was like Damnit BATMAN why did you kill him? No wonder their wasn't a Batman 5, their where probuly have less villans, because Batman kepps killing them all.

I really like Batman Returns, but I could see why some might have problems with it. Burton kind of went overboard on the set design that time. It was more like Tim Burtonland than Gotham City.

Keaton was great as Batman. Actingwise.
The thing is that he doesn't look like Batman at all. When I think of Batman, I think of a tall, muscular, black-haired man and not someone who looks like an investmen banker in his forties.

Sorry, I gotta disagree with the nerd on this one. I believe Batman Returns is still the best Batman movie ever, much better than the past ones and than Nohlan's. (I would say it's also better than Schumacher's, but for me those two pieces of crap don't even count.)

Yeah no, the dark knight and Begins completely rape it
yamisupersaiyan 2 months ago
Nohlan’s versions are great as action movies, but Batman Returns is better as a comic book movie. It reflects the true essence of the Batman world: gothic, elegant, inhuman and unreal at the same time. The most important aspect of a good comic book movie is that it represents the same aesthetic of the original source in the big screen (because comics are basically graphic media). It’s not about making it look more CGI “realistic” or “exciting”, like Nohlan does.
nonh1 2 months ago
@nonh1
For its time maybe and I do agree to some extent they are better COMIC movies, but no at the same time.
yamisupersaiyan 2 months ago
@nonh1
Also corruptions is seen way better in TDK
yamisupersaiyan 2 months ago
I think you're right about the way Nolan makes the characters: with more depth and issues, like real people are. But I prefer Burton's aesthetic approach: more gothic and surreal, like the batman comics are. For instance, Nolan makes Gotham City look just like any other American modern city. And why do we need to know the technical aspects of all of Batman's equipment: the suit, the gliding cape, the batmovile/tumbler, etc? It's fine to make the characters realistic, but why everything else too?
nonh1 2 months ago
@nonh1
Wah wah wah? Maybe its because I live in Florida but I have never seen a city like Gotham. I really don’t think Burtons was more gothic, definitely surreal. Theres nothing special with doing that man. Why DON’T we get to know all that? That’s what makes Batman Batman. I really can’t figure out why a real Batman fan would question why we should learn about Batman.
yamisupersaiyan 2 months ago
@yamisupersaiyan Well, cities like Chicago are a lot like that. And we should know all about batman, the character, not about his equipment. But anyway, there comes a point when it's exclusively a matter of preferences.
nonh1 2 months ago
@nonh1 I will agree on one point, the old films are definitely more comic ATMOSPHERIC. As for Batman himself, the newer movies definitely get him better. It not just about realism, its knowing how Batman does what he does which I for one found incredibly interesting. Also one thing just kills the old Batman films for me. The fact that Joker killed Bruces parents. Like what the hell, how much more cliché can you get
yamisupersaiyan 2 months ago
@nonh1 WOPW thats a BOLD statement!! Can you back it up or is it jsut yoru opinion in the sense that the film does it for you and no one can change that b/c its your taste. I mean if thats the case it could be as organic yet vague as whether or not you like Big Macs or not. OR is there a reason. Like you have evidence that t his movie (Returns) speaks to the comic book Batman movie the best (which I DEFincately can't see that being the case lol
CubbieBear1980 2 months ago in playlist CubbieBear1980's favorites
@CubbieBear1980 Well, when it comes to art (cinema included) there is no kind of "evidence" to support a statement, because it's a matter of interpretation (or opinion), not of science. Of course you have to explain your interpretation and ground it somehow in the material you're analyzing, so it's not just a subjective and plain declaration of "taste", but that doesn't mean your interpretation pretends to be law. The reasons for my statement are included (yet abridged) in the statement itself.
nonh1 2 months ago
I'm not being a troll, but I think the joker let batman shoot at him because he knew he doesn't like to kill people. Just a guess

KireektheAndroid 4 months ago
@KireektheAndroid Well, I blame the writers for making him so serious, but yeah, he needed to JOKE more.

I think that i've found out the problems with Shumacher(sorry if i spelled it wrong).
The villains. He overdid their personalities. Take Mr.Freeze. He made the goons
sing a Christmas Carol in negative-degree weather. His dialogue is 100 percent puns.
