From reading I recall a law being passed stating that Native American peoples were not to be kept as slaves beyond age 14, as they were uncontrolable beyond that age. How sad and virtually primitive was our culture and country from the beginning. Also, please do not forget that the Europeans enslaved each other for hundreds of years. Look at the Greco-Roman cultures. They owned slaves. Look at the Celts, they were slaves to the anglo peoples. look at the first slaves in America whom were from Wales and Ireland. So, It had nothing to do with race. Every society just saw an oppertunity to enslave people. It happened in Africa-Asia-Europe before any of these places knew that the other existed.

It is a historical fact that slaves traded their own people to Europeans. The reason is that African tribes who fought each other and when they captured the "enemy" they would enslave them for 10 yrs. This could possibly be what they thought when they caught slaves for the Europeans. It could also just have been pure green which see's no skin colour or race. Yet, on the other hand European people today are not responsible for what happened hundreds of years ago.

Western societies were NOT based on slavery, since the Roman empire had become Christian. Christian religion generally opposed slavery, even if it had to compose with local powers and interests. For example, Christianity couldn't but tolerate slavery in the Americas, yet in the states where the Catholic church ruled (Paraguay, etc.) slavery ws abolished. There were no slaves in Europe in the early modern times, except for a few slaves brought by American colonists.

In europe the "serf" system was not a form of slavery. Serfs were nobody's property, they were just assigned to a land, so that all soil would be cultivated to ensure a regular food supply. Serfs had rights, they had families, they were not sold or bought, and they could also join a king's city were serfdom did not exist. Most "negro" slaves of the 18th century, in America or Africa, would have preferred to be a serf in Medieval France or Britain!

"Modern" is a standard term in history for a given period. It differs in French and English:
- 1452-1789 = Histoire Moderne in French, and "Early Modern history" in English
- 1789-today = Histoire Contemporaine in French, and "Modern history" in English.

The Irish were always used as slaves by the English. it's laughable that u say Romans were Christians so didn't practice slavery. Why on earth did they enslave Africans then? In Africa slavery existed but not on any scale comparable to Western slavery. African slaves could live an independent life and were usually prisoners of war. Christianity was the factor used to JUSTIFY slavery! And the first American slaves were Irish but kept running away so they used color as a way to manage slavery!
