I had the same issue with my pg dn button. Opened it up cleaned it... working superb. Never knew liquidators could be of so much trouble!! thanks a lot for the help!
I'm gonna update because as I said, I am on my Acer and for XP, getting the needed SATA drivers over is less and less problematic, my installs worked good on new SATA drives I've worked with, and the beeping issue I never really faced with mine. Sounds as simple as a stuck key, yeah, can't say that's it for sure. Vista and perhaps even Windows 7 will work, I've read. This computer, the 4710 is actually better then the 14.1 inch 4730Z, that one lacks the four USB 2.0 and more that 4710 has!
A key is stuck, clean or replace keyboard. Don't buy another Acer, I made a mistake and bought one and have multiple problems after 1 year. Support is worthless and laptop design appears to have flaws.
@32egroeg Acer support is the sucky aspect, not the hardware, I'm on an Aspire 4710 right now, the thing that's problematic is the backlight and video for the display, it goes to just WHITE without image, my guesstimate is a new replacement inverter would be the cure
My friend has this problem with his computer however, it wasn't the Delete Key. We loosened the key and it kept beeping. Then it went the the Windows Memory Diagnostic Window Boot Manger screen and we couldn't hit any keys on the keyboard. My friend has gateway....
@borderjumpers18 I took a replacement keyboard from an Acer 4730Z, there are several you can swap between... use eBay for many keyboard sellers, but keep the price at $20 tops, others rip you off. Buy a dead machine and part it out! You can make your money back easily
Ha! I have a loose key that won't attach proper. I also had Malware Vista infection, had to delete it, then BIOS is password locked so denied booting XP on DVD drive, the beep is least of your worries!!!!
@MetallicBill i know this was an old comment, but if you remove your CMOS battery for 30 secs or so thus reseting your BIOS, you wont need a password and will be able to then choose your boot up options.
@wildfire2097 The REAL and only solution is to replace the BIOS soldered chip on the mainboard, I see a seller on eBay for these, they cover several models, it's about 8 pins to solder to the mainboard and you can then freely flash the needed NEW BIOS!! IT will be PASSWORD FREE!!! It is also VERY cost effective over what Acer themselves charge. I put Vista and XP on two different drives, they worked after some trial and error, and the BIOS is not even needed, I've not seen the BIOS one time!!
@MetallicBill I bought and am using Vista Ultimate on this Acer, it's also got 2GB and 2Ghz specs, came with only 512MB of RAM which is old, old, old, even if it's DDR2. 2 gigs is nice, Centrino Dual Core for mine is T2450...533mhz bus, 2MB L2 cache GMA950 graphics sadly, not capable to run good 3D games, but be advised, all you need is a MXM graphics card, there's actual space on my motherboard where the card goes, but no connector! It's not built into my revision! Use nLite for Windows install
The first thing i did was go into my bios then i went to hard disk test, then i run it. Then voila solved. If that didnt work have your comouter into bios like 10 minutes to warm your computer up
This is possibly a Hard Disk related error.. I faced the same problem... You can run chkdsk on your primary partition (right click on your C; drive in my computer -> goto properties--> goto tools tab -- > click on 'Check now' in 'error checking' ..... enable all the options before u start) .. this should solve your problem
@MrJackDavies Look up the Toshiba... the model changes key placement on every QWERTY standard, for whatever reason, even the connectors are not standard ones!
Mine does that sometimes to but only one loud continuous beep and then stops and boots up.

The problem because the electric anti mosquito (liquid). Sorry, my english is not good.
I set / put the electric anti mosquito near of my laptop (near of the Del key exactly).
So, the air of the burning liquid will cause the Del key cling.
That's why I must detach/take off and clean the Del key and its place.
To take off the Del key is easy. Just use your finger to take off it a liltle bit harder.
It'll detach. And yes, my problem is fixed. Untill now, my laptop working normal again :D

hemm well i can never tell for sure because I cant see your laptop in person but I can give my best guess
it seems some of your keyboard keys are being pressed repeatldly as for windows error you need to use the recovery vista disks
cheaptofix 2 years ago
Not always working, if there's Windows problems, and I could not recover anything with so much file damage
