  • MANCO THATS NOT TRUE

  • BEETHOVEN WAS NOT LIKE THAT WHY PPL HE WOULD PUNCH YOU :(

  • IRL Beethoven was a complete ass!

  • Beethoven era COMPLETAMENTE SORDO en esa epoca. No tocaba los instrumentos para componer.todo era de cabeza-

  • MAKE A NOTE BEETHOVEN DIDNT LIKE THIS MOVIE

  • @marianomanto and i didn't like it either

  • Ya'll... it's a movie, not a documentary. It's like hanging on to a book or a comic before you see the movie. (LOTR would have been pretty lame if Tom Bombadil were still in it.) Let's not get all nit picky about a flick that's probably historically inaccurate... It's 2011 and LVB doesn't care. If you like LVB you'll research his stuff... if not, Ed Harris is still a good actor.

  • ...wtf...why is everyone disagreeing or agreeing with his attitude? All of you have a mind of your own and think deeply how he was and study ten books or more or something to get a good idea of his character!

  • Beethoven was rude, im agree, that is indisputable... but also was irreverent....sarcastic...ill-timed,,

  • Beethoven as some cheap slut, like Brad Pitt, smirking and strutting and pouting like a debutante, instead of as the real man that he was. Oh woe to the modern world!

  • beethoven aint gettin his d wet tonite

  • Yes his favoret key was C minor :P he punched the c key so hard many times xD

  • @thegoddescomposer He wrote many more works in E flat and B flat than C minor.

  • @antimatterXXXIII E flat major is the relative major of C minor and B flat is the dominant of E flat major.

  • 0:17 his C is broke

  • fartissimo = the music of today, all i hear from this new musics are farts

  • can anybody tell me the name of the music that "anna holtz" wrote for beethoven that starts playing it at 3.50 ?

  • It's a Holly van Beethowood.

    Shit.

  • 2:28 ExPPPPerience xD

  • @FairytaleSeeker thank you Captain Obvious haha

  • dont kill beethoven

  • For fuck sakes! why are all you people talking about Beethoven as if you knew him? Of course this film is an inaccurate depiction of the man, its bound to be, he died over 150 years ago. Nobody seems to be pointing out the fact that he's speaking English with an American accent. That should be your first clue that it isn't an accurate portrayel.

  • if this was an accurate portrayal which I hope it isn't, then truly what a jerk Beethoven was breaking Anna's heart like that!! guess this just goes to show you have to be crazy to be a genius!!!

  • @trickmastermonkey Anna Holtz is a fictional character and this isn't a real portrayal at all.

  • lol

  • I liked this piece yet they portrayed it as horrible in this move.

  • This is the first footage I've seen of this film and I shall now make great efforts to make sure it is also the last. A hideous portrayal.

  • Can someone please tell me why in the movie where Anna says her piece is in C minor when it is in fact in G-sharp minor?!? (I have perfect pitch) I mean, couldn't she have just played it in C minor in the first place?

  • @RyanDarjeeling Have you ever heard of transposing?

  • something i dont get from this scene - anna looks at the score for literally 2 seconds and then says its ugly. ashe must have had a rreallyyy good sense of (mental) sight reading...

  • @aweitzer1

    hahaha!

  • @aweitzer1 She probably just saw the sheer number of accidentals on the page, and having never read any Wagner scores before, her opinion is not surprising.

  • @achan1058 she wouldn't have been able to read any wagner scores because they didn't exist at the same time that beethoven did.

unless of course she could see into the future!

  • "Of course it is ugly, but do you think it is beautiful?"

  • Gary Oldman's performance of Beethoven is relatively close to how I think he truly was. Beethoven was a man who was a true genius, and because of is genius, became misanthropic towards what he viewed as a simple minded public. His deafness only made him hate society more, as did his numerous romantic problems. Beethoven was a very angry man, because at times it truly seemed like the whole world was against him, and he often hated the world back.

  • First off, Beethoven loathed criticism. His music was so modern a lot of people didn't get it, and when they didn't he was not at all shy about telling them they were idiots for not getting it. Beethoven was a genius, and he knew it, and was not shy about saying so.

Second, at this point in his life, Beethoven was profoundly deaf. I doubt he would have heard a canon going off, let alone be able to conduct conversation in this manner.

  • The Great Fugue.

    A epic piece.

  • What's the piece played by Beethoven at 3:55 ?

  • this movie is a dead-on take of Beethoven passion. Harris does a brilliant job portraying beethoven in the human sense, the director completely captures the excitement and passion involved. I consider this a masterpiece. Beautiful, and I feel changed because of watching it.

  • Oh God, Beethoven would have had a great time making fun of you - this movie is a joke, and so are you.

Pffff, changed by it? I had to change my pants because I shit them laughing so hard.

  • i like this piece by beethoven..

  • Comment removed

  • I think that Beethoven is not going to like this movie.

  • most definately, its not historically authentic, but story-wise its ok. hey, even Amadeus was pretty innaccurate at parts, but its the story that counts, or else its a documentary

  • ok but you have to admit it's pretty funny! Musical humour at it's best if you ask me!

  • I didn't realize all of you were around when Beethoven was...you must be old!

  • @UNC3345 I'm 246 years old, and counting.

  • thats NOT beethoven! Why are they making him out to be like amadeus?? Beethoven was rude not mean.. and he was strict not eccentric! Immortal beloved with gary oldmen was the closest ive seen to beethoven!

  • Oh please that was nothing like Beethoven either....

  • @elias12186 agreed that shitty films could not describe the real composer. The only thing that he had left are not his portrets and documents but his music. Listen to the piano sonatas - there he's GOD, there he had described himself.

But this film shows him as an mad man! I dislike it!

  • @elias12186 We can't possibly know anything about Beethoven's personal behaviour. We have historical accounts, but those would be biased based on social expectations and personal opinion. Also, many of those were collected decades later in interviews when memories would be muddled by time and grief (of his previous death). So any opinion that even the most knowledgable experts have of him would be skewed and clouded by time and bias. Without video we can't possibly know for sure.

  • rofl steve go to wiki and learn the real life of beethoven, just listening his music his anger in his music alot of anger and passion, he was a kind of monster , but this movie was not 100 telling the truth

  • dude check out the book..." beethoven as i knew him " kinda boreing but has alot of insight on beethovens true self. I mean im not argueing with you or anything, im just simply saying that gary oldmens performance in immortal beloved really captured BEETHOVEN. when i watch this all i see is Ed harris!

  • yeah the immortal beloved movie was very good movie still is , but i dont really believe that a woman was helping beethoven with conducting his nine symphony , that was pure hollywood planning , but also very good movie ,

  • i aggree 100% pure hollywood B.S when i saw her helping him conduct the 9th symph.. I was imbarrised.. I WAS! lol what was the director thinking! Was that supposed to make people weep or somthing... i dont know, i like movies that capture emmotion and true charecteristics of a historical figure and all.. again im repeating myself, but i dident get that feeling with ole ed harris... not one tiny bit!! He could play the role of a grain of sand and you would know it was ed harris.

  • @SteveMLloyd He was eccentric--demanding only 100 coffee beans in his coffee, washing his hands continually whilst wearing dirty clothes, amongst others.

  • @prototypegmwt 60 coffee beans... actually.

  • @SteveMLloyd The genius of beethoven program that the bbc did was very accurate I thought

  • @oatboy yes, agreed.

  • @oatboy thanks for the tip, oatboy--i'm there!

  • @SteveMLloyd Beethoven was eccentric... You can still be strict AND eccentric. In anycase, you're right, it isn't Beethoven at all - far too happy.

  • @SteveMLloyd Oh, did you know Beethoven personally?

  • @SteveMLloyd: I totally agree. Didn't like this portrayal at all. Ed Harris didn't have it.

  • @SteveMLloyd don't be silly, he was quite eccentric and he could be quite mean, but I do agree, this is absolutely nothing like him.

    Grande amour comes close.

  • @SteveMLloyd Beethoven was far more eccentric and openly rude than Mozart. He refused to bow to the gentry and would scream insults at disapproving audiences. In short, he was the man.

  • @musicalidea Oh piss off.

  • @SteveMLloyd Right! And Oldman played Sid Vicious with similar abandon and "rightness". He should try Wagner! This movie is complete bullshit.

  • so a great man like Beethoven was humbled so easily by some woman off the street???? stupid movie...

  • I watched this film. It's simply pefect... very good.

  • Hillarious but alot of things they portrait there were not true about beethoven. He was serious and sometimes depressed.

    but this film is funny.

  • Rofl Fartissimo. :] it was kinda mean but hilarious at the same time. :P

  • I didin't liked some things on this movie, like the girl conducting and etc...other things I liked it, but this scene...¡¡¡I adore!!!!

  • I know, that bit where she conducted Beethoven was stupid.

  • Well this song give me the chills.

i want to learn it on the piano!

    R.I.P Ludwig Van Beethoven

  • ..it's not a song.....

  • i adore the movie

  • excelent for movie

  • beethoven!! THE GODFATHER OF STRANVINSKY, SCHOENBERG AND ALL THE OTHERS! :D

  • I would really like to see this film, but I wonder about this scene - how was it possible for Beethoven to have a dialouge when he was in fact deaf? People were forced to communicate with him in written form in a notebook.

  • i dont understand what he did to make her cry ive got my computer turned up to high volume did he make fun of the song by calling it fart music

  • He said she had invented a new genre, fartissimo, ha ha ha.

Can't you get the gist of it, the music[?] or composition is so pedantic or juvenile, he had to take the piss.

Anyway, there is so much 'artistic license' in this dramatisation that it is very remote from what his life was actually like.

Whoever conceived it must be very romantically minded.

If you want some factualities, read 'Thayers life of Beethoven', a very good read.

I love beethoven, a deeply human, yet divine being.

  • he's making fart noises as he is playing HER music. He was joking, but she taking it to seriously.

  • The real Beethoven wouldn't have felt bad about it.

  • Noooo Shit.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I think Ed Harris gave a wonderful performance. I always pictured Beethoven as just that kind of man, able to bring out the best and the worst of the people he cared about.

  • does someone know what this piece fartissimo is? does anyone?

  • lol.

  • That segment is from the grosse fugue op. 133, there are many versions here in youtube. Amazing piece.

  • I wanna hear that segment he played on the piano in the original song, where that piece sounds? help and forgive, my ignorance

  • I know this might sound crazy since we've never heard his voice, but I don't think that guy sounds anything like Beethoven. lol

  • You've never heard the voice of Beethoven? Where have you been?

  • we have all heard his voice as he has spoken through music :)

  • I dont think that B. would appear half naked to a young lady...sure,he was not looking for romance at that time of his life, but he was a bit of a prue... and to portray him reading lips its quite a good move, apparently he could do that sometimes..

  • he's not deaf enough in that movie

  • Well, he could read lips quite well, & also, he had absolute hearing & a perfect pitch, which means that looking at notes he could imagine the music in his head. He kept on playing the piano & the violin just to feel the instruments in the music, even though he couldn't hear them.

  • excelente

  • warez ftw

  • lo ponen demasiao poco sordo pa mi gusto...

  • bellísimo xDD

  • He wouldn't think the score was so funny, if he knew there was a treasure map on the back!

  • fartissimo! : D

  • jajaja me hace recordar un pasaje de mi vida, muy parecida a esta n.n

  • was he really that crazy?

  • lol yes, but hes a genius

  • no, this film is REALLY historically inaccurate. beethoven was a different character, but he wasn't nearly as crazy as films like to make him seem. the mad and crazy beethoven sells in hollywood, i guess.

  • He is crazy actually that is why i adore him ( for his music of course) it is said that once in a restaurant he poured all the soup from the waiter's head because the soup was cold. and yeah he had a horn to hear the sounds of nature just as in this movie... Movie is really adorable by the way...

  • Yes he was...and he was also extremely rude...I think the only inaccuracy of this movie on his character is his love for Anna...by that age he totally lost interest for women...another slight inaccuracy is that he laughs too often...I love that man....

  • would have been bette if he woz in the nude:/
