  • sounds like he's fast enough to me!

  • Martin Brundle as the 52 year old semi pro racer he is now would still incite more fear in his fellow drivers than the pairing of Bruno Senna and the truly God awful Pastor Maldonado for this year!!

Worst ever Williams line up. How the mighty have fallen.

  • @MrRascasseman

should be Rubens and Bruno. you're only half right!

  • @Tharus12 Senna would be fine as a second driver. But the mere fact Maldonado is there is just not right! He's the worst driver I have ever seen drive for Williams in my life time!

  • humm

  • I like the fact that Martin was trying his best to sound like he was going fast and being exhausted while doing so, when the fact of the matter is that he wasn't that fast when he was still competing in F1. With all due respect, losers like him should stick to commentating and losers like me should stick to posting on Youtube videos whilst under the influence of alcohol.

  • @gprimeofx that is an unfair account of someone who tangled with senna in F3 and was the most successful driver on the grid of 93 that didn't have active suspension!

there are drivers out there who are fast, give them the right tools and they will win. what schumi did at Ferrari was nothing short of spectacular but would you put Rubens or Irvine down for not being fast? there are drivers who would have won in that ferrari, maybe not as domminent as schumi was but they would have still the same

  • I struggle to keep my head from flopping around out of exhaustion after an hour of karting. Mega respect to racing drivers who do it for hours and hours in such powerful machines.

  • I'm annoyed that Williams have been crap for a while. They should be battling at the top!

  • Lame as hell.

  • the fact that he can talk so much while driving is an tribute to how fit he is and how much skill he has a driver.

  • this is awesome! great job Martin!

  • Show some respect. F1 drivers put their lives on the line every single time. The average person can withstand 4G in a few seconds, F1 drivers has to withstand 4-5G in nearly 2 hours. Accelerating, braking, and corners... over and over again, no time for rest

  • @xismxist F1 drivers don't put their lives at risk anymore, come on we all know that now the last time they risked their lives was in the early 1990's there have been terrible crashes since and the drivers have walked off unscathed its not dangerous anymore.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97

Don't put their lives at risk anymore?

    You're retarded.

  • @ohyeahbustedyeah Alright then? Give me one example of an F1 crash in recent times that has almost killed a driver or caused serious injury.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97

webber at Valencia where he landed upside down. Sorry, to say their lives arent at risk is dumb. massa almost had his head taken off

  • @ohyeahbustedyeah Are you so severely retarded that you cant even answer a simple question? Webber got no injurys at the Valencia crash because he was the one who got himself out the fucking car! Massa's crash was a freak accident and would of killed him 10 years ago. I asked for one example of a crash and you give me Massa's which was caused by an object hitting him, the crash did very little damage to him. Your a fucking retard, do you have down syndrome?

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97

Webber was extremely lucky he was unhurt. The sport is extremely dangerous you idiot,ne which is why they are paid millions and practice for hours upon end every week. You wouldnt even be able to take off in one of these things without stalling it. Now

imagine driving Monaco at 200km/h in a car that gets to 100km/h in just over 2 seconds and can violently become airborne from the slightest of knocks. Not as much danger yes, but it still require an extremely talented driver.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97

Great show of maturity by the way. What are you, 15?

Telling someone they have downs syndrome is pathetic. I would love to see tbe look on your face taking off in one of these, you would shit your pants within 10 seconds. Now factor in constant vehicle monitoring and speed and position assesments, along with a boiling environment in 4 layers of protection. Not dangerous my ass. Its dangerous, and we fucking love it.

  • @ohyeahbustedyeah I never said driving an F1 car was easy anyway, if it was I would be driving one right now instead of wasting my time correcting people that cant seem to read a statement that I made correctly. 'Its dangerous, and we fucking love it' You obviously havent watched any 1980's F1 races, again like 'ohyeahbustedyeah' give me one example of a driver in recent times sustaining severe injurys in a crash, not a freak accident like Massa's.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97

Wasting time correcting people? Wow, you're a hypocrite.

You said the sport is not dangerous. Just because someone isn't dying every month doesn't make it safe.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97 recently? Does Kubica´s crash in montreal 2007 count then? But i guess that he broke one or both of his leg if im right

  • @TheV12ferrari

Kubica only suffered a concussion and a slight ankle injury in that smash...

  • Leave him alone, he's a great driver.... loads better than you, chapatti face

  • @Lenstar26DIRT3VIDS every body was kung fu fighting!

  • get out that car youfuckin gremlin

  • Fucking Awesome vide mate. Thanks for the Upload!

  • Why did they rape the silverstone circuit?

  • @YouthEnergy It was a naughty girl.

  • OUUUps ... by rude I mean rough ... problem of translation

  • Hey Martin the rude boy ... it's nice to see him again

  • And then Schumacher used to jump out of the car at the end of the race and he very rarely looked exhausted or sweaty. The same as vettel now. That's how fit they have to be. All the junior Formulas help to prepare you for this, but the final jump to F1 is the biggest and at the first drive,

nothing can totally prepare you for it.

  • Ha it makes me laugh when sports people say that

"makes you realise why they get paid so much"

Don't get me wrong, I love F1 and most other sports, but there is absolutely NO justification WHATSOEVER for sportsmen to earn as much as they do.

  • @SimoMcGauneo Sportsmen, including F1 drivers do not get paid the amount of money that they do because they are doing what they do, they get paid that much because of what they can do for the team. The more you can give the team, the more you get paid.

  • @nvstewart Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @SimoMcGauneo look at it this way they get paid so much because of the money they generate and if vettel sells 1000 shirts a week with vettel written on the front, thats his name he wants the money and to b honest why wouldnt he. would you let the proceeds of your name go in some1 elses pocket. (the 1000 shirts a week sales figures were an example, before some low life corrects me saying he onlys sells this many really) was putting it simply

  • @leemassey1 Of course not, but all I was saying was that ALL sportsmen and women are overpaid, I don't think anyone can argue with that. Have a good day.

  • @SimoMcGauneo ok change vettel for david beckham, or kobe bryant they generate loads of money so they expect loads of money. but then a doctor wont sell loads of shirts with his name onit will he?? or pencil or cups whatever. even tho a doctor wood save your life, or me im a builder i build houses but dnt get no where near the value its worth to build it. the public bump up a sportsmans wages by buying everything he endorses then bitch they get so much money

  • Best F1 driver to have never won a race.

  • Wow! it must be unbelivably exhausting to drive a full distance grand prix

  • Great description, just what I was looking for... Thank you very much for this.

  • brilliant

  • That was slightly cheesy but actually a really amazing segment. I've never seen a better description of the strains and difficulties of F1 driving.

  • I can't take Martin Brundle seriously, I hate how he acts like the F1 mastermind when he never won a race in 165 attempts.

  • @bfcricky He may have never won a race, but the Monaco GP of 1989 showed that he had some serious skill. Somebody has uploaded the full race on Youtube check it out.

  • NASCAR drivers are poor and stupid

  • @Frackdanup make shit loads of money though....

  • @MajKong101 was merely quoting south park :)

  • @Frackdanup Yeah, except they're not.

  • @Frackdanup I'm not poor and stupid enough to be a NASCAR driver.

  • @Frackdanup must have gotten that from the South Park episode of NASCAR drivers

  • @olakunleoladimeji you got that right :)

  • Shut up you all with the F1 vs NASCAR... I can't see a video of F1 without this silly comments

  • i never realized until this video how demanding racing really is. i always heard you had to be as good shape as (football player-soccer) now I can see why.

  • @babystinky in fact F1 drivers are few of the fittest people on the planet :)

  • Martin Brundre is a great commentator, and he is just great at explaining things to the average viewer. Fantastic guy!

  • @dude2106 hes also an EX-RACER.

  • lol i love all the people doubting weather or not its hot inside that car. well consider this he is sitting probably no more then 12 inces from a 2.4l v8 engine that is spinning at 18,000 rpm. And in case you didn't realize, wind cools things on contact, not simply because it is there, and the driver is under 4 layers of fire proof clothing and a racing helmet, so the wind is having no cooling effect on him whatsoever.

  • All he does is moan :P

  • for those who think F1 is easy to drive. I tell you this an f1 can generate up to 5G in braking!! That means you will feel a 1000 pounds forward force while braking if you weight 200 pounds. vice versa. a nascar can't generate non of these forces. thats why you don't have fat race car drivers driving an f1 car. like you see in nascar. lol

  • I wish I had the opportunity to race

  • G-Force so high

  • Ahh Brundle. What a top dude.

  • Comment removed

  • @uk2k1010 what a stupid comment.

  • @muddwell loser

  • @uk2k1010 that was even stupider.

  • Martin's commentary is superb.

  • Going from F1 to NASCAR isn't the best move in terms of driver preparation, F1 generally is about inch-perfect inputs at precise moments, whereas NASCAR is about taking a low-tech (comparatively) car and making the adjustments to the car and driving style in order to maximize speed by balancing the car through a long corner. As for those "not so great" drivers in F1, even having a short stint in F1 shows the world that you CAN indeed drive. Just look at Frank Montagny--snapped up by Peugeot.

  • gotta be hardest job in the world.

  • did guy ritchie the 3d animations? lol

  • I think Martin is a legend. His pre race walks down the track are biblical.

  • How can you people be arguing over whether it really is THAT hot in an F1 cock-pit?

You just watched the fucking video. A driver with nearly 30 years of experiance is telling what it's actually like, whilst driving the car.

And yet you, who odds-on bet have never ever been to GP, let alone sat where he is, have a debate on whether he is exaggerating or not??

  • the pre race slot of f1 were really cheesy, look at martin's cartoon comic shots

  • I got to go in the official lotus f1 driver simulator the one that the drivers actualy use in a car show in manchester I got best time out of the entire day out of 450 people the pedals in the car moved the more acceleration u used and the faster u went you sat in the actual car and used a screen in front of it :) my time was a 1 min 40 sec on canada gp

  • wow i guess 1 round in a F1 car will knock me out straight

  • ok..im sure its a lil warm in the car.,...but i think 200mph wind has a tendency to cool things off.

  • @565Customz like he said, the car is designed from an aerodynamic standpoint to allow air to flow into the engine not through the cockpit. At speeds of 200mph the air has to be routed to where it absolutely needs to go. And 4 layers of fireproof clothing just adds to the fact, things will not be cool.

  • @SHAMIRMCLEISH im sorry..i just cant see it getting THAT hot inside that car...do you have any IDEA how much air that is going through that car at 200, mph??

i mean i guess it could be hot, but i wouldnt think it would be any hotter than a nascar or rally car

  • @565Customz you probably are right but its still toasty as ever lol

  • @565Customz it's the temperature the various parts operate best at besides Martin should know what he's talking about he used to drive thiose things for a livinf he was Ayrton Senna's team mate at McLaren if I remember rightly at one point

  • @sjsharp2007 Correct, and schumachers, I do believe he is also an engineer.

  • @Bawhair1 He wasn't Senna's teammate at McLaren. Brundle came to McLaren in 1994, the year Senna left for Williams. As far as I know, he has never worked as an engineer in F1, which I assume is what you mean by "engineer".

  • @Lolzilol123 oh right I remember seeing him drive for Mclaren but didn't remember the dates so given I knew Sewnna was driving around in the McLaren at about that time vI thought he was

  • @Lolzilol123 I need to elaborate on what I was replying to there bud. I was half cut when i did so. I was trying to say " Correct he did it for a living (racing that is) and he was Schumachers team mate at benneton and I believe he is an engineer to trade not that he was an engineer in F1. Easier when you are sober lol

  • @Bawhair1 Oh, okay. What is an 'engineer to trade'? I'm not from England, so I don't know these fancy titles (:D)

  • @sjsharp2007 He was never Senna's teammate, but he was his closest competitor in British F3. Senna won the title at the final race.

  • @565Customz There is going air AROUND the car. Not inside. As he said, they don't want air to get into the cockpit because it creates drag, dirty air for the rear wing and engine intake. Some cars now have a small hole in the nose to get air to the drivers legs, but because it creates drag without any down force they can't give much comfort to the drivers to make them competitive. Remember all the heat his body is producing inside a closed fireproof suit.

  • what a rush to drive one of these machines

  • Martin Brundle is a legend and he is 100% the best Sports Commentator in the world.. Go Brundle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome vid, first time showing what F1 drivers are all about.

  • @flightstarwalker

    Brundle is a legend!

  • Clipsal 500 is shit compared to this

  • Indy is poor man's F1

  • @flightstarwalker Think you;d struggle to make yourself heard over the noise of a 150db engine driving at 190mph.....

  • @flightstarwalker

the idiot loser acomplished his dream (F1 racing) and no one can take this out from him... he will be forever part of the "chosen few" even though he's never been F1 champion but you flightstarwalker, who are you? You will always be part of the million Youtube bastards posting shitty comments... it is so easier...

  • Todays formulas hard to drive? Nowadays traction controls and automatics do all the work, looking back to the 70s and 80s, when drivers had to shunt the gearboxes and stomp clutch pedals, to not crash to deaths with their 1000+bhp flying machines. And even more, i do not know how something like nascar is concidered even watchable.

  • OMG! your ignorance is astounding!

did you even watch the video? "sumo-wrestling match with king kong" oh, sounds easy doesn't it?

clutch pedals and gearsticks in 80s f1 cars were apparently very light... james hunt once said, "you can change gear with your pinky finger"

and finally, when are you going to accept that traction control, ABS and all that rubbish have been banned? do you even watch f1 anymore?

probably not, if you did you wouldn't sound like a lunatic...

  • @FormulaOneFan4Eva hehe, according to your name, and beliving what Hunt said, you are the lunatic here : ) , there is only one fact i am trying to prove, and that cannot be argued, that the cars in the old days were harder to drive, and men driving them were harder aswell.

  • oh that's right, i'm the lunatic for believing what a former world champion said aren't i?

seeing as you have never driven a formula one car of any kind, i don't really think you're qualified to disagree with hunt...

the drivers of old never had to cope with +5Gs through corners and almost 6Gs under braking, the extraordinary lap times, the 60 degree heat in the cockpit or the horrible visibility...

please, don't go making narrow-minded comments...

  • @FormulaOneFan4Eva And G forces is all they get, just a hot rollercoaster ride, where as back then strains came from doing things themselves, not being thrown around. And no i'm not saying anything bad about anyone, just expressing my opinion. It annoys me when SuperFormulaFanHamiltonButton4Ever type of guys start arguing wherever they can. If you disagree with my commen, push the thumb down button and rest there.

  • @launger The cockpits of these cars are hotter then ever at their peak level. Alonso lost 5.5 to 6 liters of water at Bahrain last year due to dehydration. Although the rules suck this year since there's no more pushing.

  • @launger The cars don't have TC nor automatics.

Back then drivers were less prepared and there were a lot more pay drivers and shitty teams with crappy cars.

The current generation is probably the best ever in terms of both skill and preparation.

  • The 3.0Lt V10s peaked at about 980hp, the 2.4Lt V8s of 2010 make about 780hp.

  • The V8's have around 750hp not 600hp. 2005 was the year they turned up the whick of the V10 in the last races to produce more the 1000hp just so they can see the limits of the engine. They say this on the official Formula 1 2005 dvd.

  • great stuff by m.b. truly great animations.thnx for the vid!

  • He's one of the best pundits around, knows his stuff.

  • @barefootinthehead1

it seems you are way better than him, the whole wold is just amazed we haven't heard a damn thing about you...

  • 750 or sth yea,but it is only a 2.4 litre engine,no turbos are used...still quite amazing.

  • But Brundle is 50 years old lol (probably 48 when this was made!). Lets see how "quick" that slowcoach Piquet is when he's 48/50 years old

  • @andrewgriffiths78 He'll prob be asked to do a demo on crashing, that's all he was ever good at.

  • nice of them to put the name a certain spannish world champion on the front of his helmet

  • bell??

  • the joke is obviously lost to you.

  • Id be interested what lap times MB was doing..

  • LOL Gran Turismo 3...

  • Never heard Brunde so anxious and alert before.

  • Nice vid, but I thought he would compare this with the F1 cars of old.

  • NASCAR is just silly by comparison.

  • @supermarine67 Sure, look at the variety and diversity of circuits in F1, Spa, Monza, Monte Carlo, etc. etc. - look at Nascar - here is an oval, here is another oval, put up the same advertising and they would need a sat nav to realise thaty were at a different circuit, give them a right turn and they would all be fucked!!

  • @supermarine67 agreed

  • @supermarine67

like racing hamsters in exercise wheels

  • @supermarine67 it's pretty hard to drive a NASCAR stock car as well. make a tiny mistake in judgement, and the car could spin on you. they also experience high heat and g-forces, although probably not to the extent of an F1 car. NASCAR drivers are skilled in their own rights; its hard to wrestle a 3500 pound brick-on-wheels around a racetrack at 200mph. you don't have to like nascar, idc about that. at least just respect it like you should respect all motorsports.

  • Thats an excellant feature. Brundle for Prime Minister/President!!

  • I second that

  • i hate it how people say that driving a f1 car is easy any body could do it.

    but they can't

  • any car with 800H.P. is going to be very hard to drive at the limit, as you can hear from his voice he can barely talk. I broke 2 ribs in from racing my shifter kart I can't even imagine what a F1 car would feel like.

  • 800 Hp is not the key. 800 HP vs. 600kg with driver and aerodynamic loads exceed mechanical grip by numbers. And by the way, the FW29 engine was a nearly 1000 hp monster

  • They can all produce nearly 1000hp and can do 22,000 RPM but the FIA do not allow it.

  • the engine in the FW29 was a V8 and not near 1000bhp. back when they had the BMW they were over 1000bhp.

  • @randar3: Japp, you're right, my fault. Somehow had in my mind that the engine switch to 2.4 litres was at the end of 2007...

  • no it wasn't the FW29 had about 740hp, it was a 2.4L V8 like now...

  • anyone who says racing doesnt take skill or physical endurance is an idiot. HA good show brundle

  • thanks very much ,never seen such a good vertual simulation of G- Forces!

  • well ive seen worse jobs than an F1 driver... i dont even think that its a bad job... i think its the best job! im not saying that its an easy job though...

  • Just found his website, really classy.martinbrundledotcom

    cool stuff

  • Senstational! Great feature, fantastic editing/FX work!!

  • Makes me respect F1 even more.

  • martin brundle is always such a fantastic insight, no one else has the experience and skills to convey the details as he, best sports presenter in whole world. The BBC simply had to take him on, as for james allen thank god they passed him up /he has annoyed me with his stupid voice and patter for ages!

  • I agree with you on Martin - he really does make F1 100x more watchable. James catered for the people who only watch 1 or 2 races a year. He is for the masses, and I respect him for that.

  • Martin Brundle is a true professional. His insight is without peer, and I too am thrilled that his expertise will once again be made available to us all next year. And best of all, he doesn't waffle on about Lewis Hamilton, unlike a Mr J Allen has done for the past 2 seasons...

  • Awesome video...shows a good perspective of what these drivers go through when they race and test there cars...

  • brillant demonstration.

  • Awesome vid! I have a lot of respect for F1 drivers now and Brundle explains everything so well, top bloke.

  • with this review, I now have lot of respect for the race car drivers, Thanks Martin for the great review!!

  • Marin Brundle is simply an outstanding analyst. He's so good at his job it is unreal. Fellow sports analysts WATCH AND LEARN! This guy is an absolute pro.

  • BANG ON! So glad the BBC have signed him up; he's superb, no other commentator/analyst comes close to his expertise!

  • This is why so many NASCAR drivers are fat and out of shape plus get away with it.

  • nascar is not racing, they can do without a steering wheel cuz our american friends cant design cars that go round the bend. They are horsepowernutters

  • While american car's are certainly not my favorite i want you to take that comment back. America has been catching up lately and finally designing good cars... it can obviously be seen in the Corvettes (especially the latest), the cadillac, and even the latest chevy cobalt SS which put down impressive times at VIR. Stock cars are stock cars, they are designed for a specific purpose.... while i do not watch Nascar and prefer F1.. i think it is pretty fallacious to say its not racing.

  • ok, since they drive around an oval and try to cross the line first, i guess you can call it racing. I stand by the rest of my comment .

  • Corvettes can put down better times at road courses than a lot of cars. Corvettes even run in the european GT series and LeMans... what the hell is your problem? Lol

  • How come every American fails at european racing (F1, FiaGT, DTM) then.

Also Bourdais (4 times champcarchampion gets outdriven by almost everyone in F1)

American cars and american (trained)racers are just bad

    flame away

  • @Bonobo1974 All the top american drivers go to NASCAR. And there's plenty of europeans, south americans and asians that fail in F1.

I read a statistic witch said 70% of F1 drivers have a carer that is at the most 2 years.

F1 was always a high failing rate series.

  • @Bonobo1974 get the fuck over yourself,...jeeze...

  • @Bonobo1974 No doubt in my mind that this southern boy could outdrive you any day, any time....

  • @mesa401 I think this guy means playstation (if he can keep one of his hands out of his trousers long enough to complete a lap)!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Bonobo1974 Scott Speed was as good as any mid-pack driver. His departure from F1 had nothing to do with his ability.

That being said, look at Juan Pablo in Nascar, not exactly a riveting performance.

  • Juan was hardly a top shelf driver in F1 though, similar performances to Ralf at Williams then outclassed by a genuine class driver at McLaren n Raikkonen. I think it's almost impossible to compare the two in terms of drivers' success in each with so many variables in play. Mansell did well for a year in CART but oval tracks and other race circuits provide vastly different challenges which is why when IRL and NASCAR in particular go to road circuits the also rans often excel, like Ambrose

  • @213HBK No Juan was top shelf.

  • @Bonobo1974 give me a f1 car and well see who fails...its just not big over here...yet.

  • @Bonobo1974 I couldnt agree more but there is one exception and that is Mario Andretti, but that was a long time a go now. Who have the Yanks had to pin there hopes on recently Scott Speed hahahaha.

  • thats not true, you have to be very good a driving to race one, they are such crappy cars, vary few people can be completive in them.

  • F1 and Rally drivers face two different challenges. Both disciplines are worthy of the deepest respect.I love F1 and don't go on rally videos and create. Please reciprocate.Brundle is the epitome of an F1 driver for my money,a true driver.Honest, brave, and full of bottle.Remember his 180+mph crash at Australia? He RAN back to his #2 car to restart the race.Cojones like coconuts lol.Bravo Martin.
