  • Jack was the best there ever was. Bar none. Watched this more than a dozen times, and every time the tears stream down my Mountaineer cheeks! God bless Jack Fleming.

  • DEFINITELY CHILLS! Thanks for making this! Let's Go-ohhhhh Mountaineers!!

  • Not even a Mountaineer fan, but this gives me chills. What a voice.

  • I cannot watch this enough! I cry EVERY time that I watch this. Man what memories! He was THE best. Period!

  • I actually called MSN about a year ago and inquired if there was any way they could release material that they had of games that Jack Fleming announced and of course they won't because of copyrights, so they just lie there collecting mold and dust and us fans just heve to reminesce about the old days. It's a shame because I know I;m not the only one who would LOVE to hear a game just as it was when Jack Fleming announced it! Is there anyone with more clout than I who can Help? PLEASE!!!

  • NO offense to Tony Caridi because he's a good announcer in his own right and Jack Fleming was his hero, BUT there is and was NO better play by play man than Jack Fleming! He could make a meaningless season ending game during the Mountaineers losing years sound as if they were playing for the national championship! I can still hear him during those great games like Florida 1981, Oklahome 1982, pitt 1975, and of course Penn State 1988. He was the greatest! Man I miss Jack Fleming!

  • What a great video!

  • i'm convinced friendswood provided some of those amazing pictures. :) great job, x. from a fellow BGN poster.

  • @eternalYouth304

    Thanks ey.

  • Excellent tribute!! Mr. Fleming's voice always had me on the edge of my seat with his ability to call both Mountaineer football or basketball games. Even though I never got to see the Mountaineers play when Jack Fleming called their games, I could always see them play in my mind the way the games were called on the radio. I felt the same way too when Mr. Fleming called the Steelers games too. I surely do miss Mr. Jack Fleming!! God bless Jack Fleming as he was the best on the radio!!

  • thoughs where the days come september thoue december jack flemming calling play by play woody o'hera at his side with insight

  • Gone But NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN!

As a youngster I spent many Saturday afternoons surrounded by the beautiful red, yellow, and orange leaves but somehow GOLD AND BLUE were the only colors that seemed to matter.

My father was an Usher at the old Mountaineer Field and I had free run of the stadium during games from the late 60's till the late 70's. Scenes such as Jim Carlin's RAID of the Richmond Spider are forever etched on my brain. Jack Fleming's voice will forever narrate those sweet memories.

  • Simply awesome. We miss you, Jack.

  • God bless Jack Fleming and God bless West Virginia.

  • @nascar1395 It's a historical call you shipdit.

  • And somewhere out there, Jack still hates Pitt!

  • I bleed old gold and blue!!!

  • Mountaineer field (and old Mountaineer stadium) will never be the same with Jack AND DOC's voices missing...........

  • Mountaineer fan, Steeler fan,Bull's fan to some extent. we all love jack. If you never heard him, you missed some real passion you just dont hear any more. I can't get enough of it. i wish he could have called Pat White.

Name the Box and retire #5.

  • go jack fleming

  • this is so good it oughta be on the bigscreen at at least one football game a year. Fantastic work.

  • quite simply....the best ever!!!

  • Man Sheeple100 things not much differant across WV . I remember hunting and litening to the radio. getting a pack of nabs, peanuts and a coke with my Grandpa.

  • Ill tell you how to know if you are a TRUE mountaineer fan.....When you watch this video, if you have a hard time breathing, and your eyes well up like mine are right now....you my friend are a Mountaineer for life!

  • R.I.P. Jack Fleming .

You were the best at your game and my memories of turning off the TV sound and turn on the radio were priceless .

You will be missed but not forgotten .

  • jack's still calling the games from up high, just not in the press box at mountaineer field.

  • Great Job - Jack was a great personality for the state of WV. I would also love to see a tribute of basketball calls also.

And I agree with an earlier comment that this should be played on the Jumbotron.

  • Jack Fleming will always be one of the greatest broadcasters to ever grace the radio waves.I'm a Penn Stater, but also a huge Steelers fan and love WVU as well being my second favorite team and remember many autumn afternoons listening to Jack on the radio during hunting season coming back from a days hunt to our hunting camp in Mineral County, WV. Jack was a class act, from the greatest generation of my Grandparents. I bet Jack and Myron are having a heck of a good time up there. Great tribute

  • Jack was the best. Tony is okay, but Jack is the best.

  • The best ever.....kind of wish I could have heard him when Pat, Steve, and Owen were playing....I know he was watching and cheering!!

  • weaponX-- thought you might enjoy seeing a video of Richwood Lumberjacks 2009 season. On Youtube home page type in Richwood Lumberjacks 2009 football..it shoud be one of the first to pull up. Merry Christmas

  • His call from the '75 pitt game still chokes me up.

  • Grew up in the Northern Panhandle and Jack was the Mountaineers.WVU 1973-86, undergrad, med school and residency. Live in Pittsburgh and bleed Mountaineer gold and blue ! Wear my WVU gear with pride. This sent chills up my spine, as did woopin' Pitt last week !

  • So hard to watch this without choking up. Jack Fleming on the radio is a part of my past I'll never forget. His voice filled our house every Saturday. On those rare occasions when WVU was on TV, we turned down the sound on the set so we could listen to Jack. He's gone now and so is my Dad ... and I haven't lived in WV for years. The big win over Pitt tonight (19-16, 11/27/09) is bringing back some mighty sweet memories.

  • 19-16 and I still hate Pitt!

  • Great idea about playing this pregame or at haltime on the Jumbotron...I would love to see that.

RIP Jack...You WERE the voice of the Mountaineers for so many of us !

  • I LOVE this video man....It really brings back memories for me....best video on Youtube! makin me misty!

  • your a dick!

  • I find myself wishing this was played on the Jumbotron at halftime at least once.

  • there, not 'their' AHAHAH!! you went/go to marshall! LOL

  • Sent chills up my spine...awesome, Thanks.

  • I cry a little every time I listen to this. Jack was a Mountaineer.

  • You and me both sage...and I made it. lol

  • @sageofsuccess me too

  • Sound of my childhood

  • I think only a native of the state understands what his voice meant on so many of those crisp autumn afternoons. Jack's voice IS Mountaineer football. One of my favorites 'The Mountaineers have the ball going left to right on your radio dial.'

  • I would always listen to Jack call the game. Even if they were on TV I"d turn that sound off and listen to Jack. I will never forget the call when Pat Randolph scored against Penn St. My personal favorite was a basketball call of his. "VO as smooth as a summer breeze." everytime Vernon Odom made a shot.

  • I was at the Boston College game when Flutie got sacked. The whole stadium erupted! Boston College came in ranked number 4 in the nation and left losing to WVU, the only team to beat them that year.

    Great memories.

  • Jack , Your are gone from us but you will always live in our hearts in the MountaineerNation . Thanks for the memory's , this world was much better with you in it .

  • No, I wont hold it agaist you because the year i graduated "68, we beat the Grizzles. Those were some great days growing up in West Virginia. I went to Glenville State College and now live in Ohio, but I have always held the Mountaineers close to my heart. To hear Jack's voice and recall the days of listening to the radio while riding around with my dad brought back many fond memories, You did a great job putting this together, very professional.

  • I can remember many autumn Saturday afternoons in the early 1960's, squirrel hunting with my dad and brother. We always listened to WVU football games while we were driving from place to place. We always stopped in a little country store at Mill Point West Virginia and got a bottle of pop and a candy bar. Through teary eyes I write this. Thanks for putting it together. Good job. Is one picture about mid way Richwood? Thats my home town.

  • Thanks, indeed it is Richwood. I listened to most games on WVAR so I had to throw a pic of Richwood in there. I'm from Summersville...hopefully, you won't hold that against me. ;-)

  • Great video. A whole generation of Mountaineer fans grew up listening to Jack and Woody.

  • The best ever. Wish they could recreate this voice and use it for every football game.

  • Beautiful. Perfect mix of Jack's voice and Appalachian Spring and the stunning vistas of the Mountain State. Goosebumps.

p.s. We love Tony Caridi , too. The rightful heir to the mic.

  • This is one of the best videos i have ever seen

  • an all-round great voice thank-you for your calls of Steelers games - now u can Myron can call SUPER BOWL XLIII for all in heaven go steelers! yoi!

  • Jack Fleming was the best! Tony Caridi is a fucking joke!

  • Your a fucking joke, Caridi is a great announcer who has done a lot for WVU. Flemming was the best though

  • could you imagine jack calling some of whites ruuns.

  • Hoist the Battle Flag Jack...We got a game to win tonight!

  • I cry every time I watch this.

  • Thanks for bringing back the old days of Mountaineer Football on the radio. I really miss hearing Jack and Woody on the radio.

  • What a man!!!! Brings tears to my eyes and I get a lil choked up!! PROUD TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Let us not forget one of the greatest voices to hear on gamedays. I miss hearing good 'ol Doc Stevens voice ringing through the stadium. EVERY TIME I heard that entrence he announced for the band, it gave me chills...... Never duplicated...... good 'ol Doc.

  • This brings back great memories. As a kid my family and I grilling outside with Jack and Woody full blast on the radio. One post is on the money, he will always be the voice of the Mountaineers! We miss you Jack!

    GREAT WORK on this vid...

  • I sure do miss you Jack Fleming. You made me feel as if I were in Morgantown watching any game you called on the radio. You are and will always be THE VOICE OF THE MOUNTAINEERS!

    LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If that doesn't give you chills, you aren't a Mountaineer. I think they should use this video on the big screen at all home game this coming year. Thank you so much for making this.

  • love it, i'm just now trying to figure out how to make vids, may i ask a program that you use?, I just expermentied with power point and a 30 day trail version converter ha ha, trying to do wvu from beginning to now, up to the 40's but my quality isn't as good, any help?

  • Well, you're gonna have to get better software for sure. I use Sony Vegas. Get your hands on a copy. Get yourself a good audio editor as well. Sony Sound Forge or Adobe Audition are good. There's quite a few tutorials on using Vegas on YouTube. Probably some good advice on what software to use as well. Good luck.

  • what an awesome video. have watched it hundreds of times since it was first created.

i may have to commission wvuweaponx to produce the video that will be shown when we get this press box dedicated to Jack!!

  • When Jack would make his "Touchdown West Virginia" call it truly felt like the entire State of West Virginia had just scored. No one could read a scene setter like Jack. The university should name the press box after Jack. That is if Mike Parsons could swallow his stubborn pride. It's a shame, we went from the legend to a guy from Syracuse. Shameful

  • This is simply amazing.

  • I'm at work and currently fighting back tears. I cant leave my office until my eyes dry up. God I miss hearing him call games. Rest in peace Jack.

  • I'm 50 and some of my fondest memories are related to WVU football, I can remember my father and I at age 10 driving to the top of a mountain so we could pick up a night game that we couldn't pick up at our home. Listening to Jack was always a pleasure. It does make cold chills run down my back. Rest in peace Voice of the Mountaineers.

  • This is a great tribute, great job.

  • Thanks for this. The saddest day for this old Mountaineer was the day Mike Parsons fired The Voice. Even going down hill they couldn't replace him. The hills resound with the Voice of the Mountaineers!!!!

  • Dittos!! Jack Fleming was and is the ONLY voice of the Mountaineers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So many memories, thanks Jack

  • What a great tribute. For those of us who couldnt always see the games or werent televised back in those days, his voice made you feel like you were in the stadium. It was like we couldnt lose listening to the voice of Jack Fleming, it was something magical to a small kid growing up in WV. Brings back memories, all of which were good. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the great memories of saturday afternoons of days gone by, I becane a Mountaineer fan because of these radio broadcasts.

  • what a great man for a great job. his voice will be permanently imbedded in mountaineer football. lets go mountaineers!

    zach wpb, fl

  • Here comes the Major... TOUCHDOWN Wes VIRginYAAA

  • We miss you jack in a dark hour for the WVU football program it is good to hear his voice.

  • WVU WeaponX thank you

  • I am Jack Fleming's youngest daughter. I would like to thank you for such an amazing tribute. His influence still amazes me everyday. When my father passed away I was only 17. I still didn't grasp all he had accomplished. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him. Your video is just one more way to help remember him. From my entire family, Thank You

  • Ms. Fleming, thank you for taking the time to comment. This evening, I wish to send you a private message with a link to download the original file. I'll comment more then as well but for now, you've made my day. Thank you.

  • I ran the Mountaineer network for Jack from the studios of WAJR in the late '60s and early '70s. Jack was the station manager of WAJR at that time. I couldn't sit back and enjoy Jack the way most people did because I had to listen for commercial cues, time outs, etc. but Jack was the consumate professional. He didn't tolerate mistakes from himself or anyone else associated with the broadcasts. Thanks for the video. Brought back great memories. Bill Fox - Beijing, China

  • Thanks Bill for that great insight.

  • If WV wins its next two games the only thing that make it sweater would be to hear Jack call them.

  • I cry every time I watch this.

  • A beautiful and fitting tribute for a great Mountaineer. Thanks for posting it.

  • Excellent tribute!!

I shall never forget the way Jack Fleming called all WVU games on the radio and how he made me feel as if I too were at the stadium watching these games with him.

I will never forget how he called Pittsburgh Steelers games too!

Jack Fleming was and will always be the ONLY "Voice of the Mountaineers!"

  • "...and it's a great day for Mountaineer Football!" Whoa...well done. And thanks for the memories, Jack!

  • Dittos!!

  • Well done! Brings back some great memories...

  • What a great tribute! Jack Fleming WAS West Virginia football.

It is a shame he could not be here now to call these games. He would have loved Slaton, White, Reynaud, and Schmitt. He would have been beside himself.

    We miss you, Jack!

  • im transferin to wvu this january im really exicted i hope i have a good time

  • Beautiful, that is all that can be said. Simply beautiful!

  • Boy ole boy, he would have loved watching our current guys play.....I would love to have heard him call the Sugar Bowl 2 years ago, Tony is great, But Jack is the legend.....He surely would have been thrilled to see Pat and Steve do what they do...

  • FANTASTIC!!

WOW - What wonderful memories your video rekindled..

    I actually have chills.

    Bravo - THANK YOU!!

  • Can you imagine the smile on Jack's face today?! "The hills are alive..."!!!

  • Lump in my throat. We all miss you Jack!

  • Growing up in WV, I heard Jack and give him credit for sparking my interest in broadcasting. The way he could describe the setting and the excitement in his voice. No one can take his place, and no one should try. Thank you Jack for sharing your Saturdays with us and being the eyes there in Morgantown and on the road.

  • great video, and i do mean great......long live the blue and gold

  • This is the spirit that bring mountaineer fans togather, this is what West Virginia football is all about. Truely a moving tribute to one of WVU's biggest fans.

  • I'm only 15 and i get chills over this. In 4th grade we had to be a famous West Virginian for a report. I chose Jack. He wasn't even on the list of choices. This is simply amazing. Beautiful.

  • THAT'S FRIGGIN' BEAUTIFUL!

  • WOW! This video is soo good! Being only 20 I so wish I could remember his broadcasts, but I can't. I can, however, remember the stories that my grandpa told me about the days at old mountaineer field and the how Jack Felming was the best at what he did: "With him you didn't need TV, he painted such a good pic." Thank you so much for this post, I can safty say that this is the best thing I have ever, EVER seen on utube.

  • Beat Pitt!!!

Gave me chills. Jack Fleming is a legend.

  • Jack was more than a Simple Gift for WVU football fans everywhere! What a fantastic video and what an appropiate song for it! Job well done!

  • Awesome!! Simply awesome! Jack was the greatest!! rest in peace.

  • Great Job, This man's voice brings smiles to Mountaineers everywhere.
