I never use a fixative on my pastel work. I tried that many years ago, and to my horror the whole picture became much darker! I have a B&W pastel painting of a young woman (portrait) and unfixed still hanging in my flat from 1983. It looks as good as the day I painted it and the pastel has not become loose. I fix my paintings (protect) behind glass.
I studied in London & Amsterdam, but developed my own techniques in pastel that seem to work pretty well. Good luck with your e-lessons...
@woodee54 that is true i drew a self portrait and my art teacher sprayed fixative on it to preserve it and it made the whole thing darker i didnt like the picture anyway it looked horrible
Now for recess.
