the motion along the men is crap... its very dangerous to let the shinai slide over the men like that... its a good vid and he shows it right but i see some kendoka doing the vertical motion to correct so many mens hit the mengane... i hate it xD
Thank you for your comment and advice. I don't usually strike hard when I demonstrate but I should show them a good serious cut. There was (and still is) a reason that I cannot really strike fully. I have a knee problem.
The way you have learned at your kendo school is also one way of striking a small men. Here what I am showing is based on a big men cut; a small men cut that involves clear cutting movement.
You are quite right. He and I talked about it and he had been working on the problem since we taped this video. I am sure that he has fixed his problems.
I have asked some high ranked people to make sure how people are using the term "sashi-men". It is a pretty long article so I cannot write here. Please go to The Cyber Dojo.
Unfortunately no one has heard of sashi-waza in kendo. There may be such term in Koryu.
We all agree that sashi-men is an inappropriate technique in kendo.
Again in this video, I am not instructing sashi-men but small men.
I am sorry that you misunderstood the video. The video does not teach sashi-men but small men. If you do not know the difference between sashi-men and small men, please go and read the article in The Cyber Dojo.
Unfortunately not many Japanese explain what sashi-men is when they teach the word sashi-men.
Sorry for the confusion.
In my 27 years of kendo training, I have never heard of sashi-waza. I am checking with other kendoists.
Maybe he is, but still, proper sashi-waza isn't done with the wrists. Nice to see though that someone is taking the time to make these videos. I don't agree with his teaching method, but I appreciate his contribution.
too much talking and too little cutting!!!~

I appreciate the serious side of this, but I found this was possibly the funniest name of a youtube video ever.

I don't understand why you don't really hit the men. I thought it is much clear for the student to know how powerful it is.

using your wrists and elbows to do sashi-men... wow, has kendo instruction dropped to such a low level?

I'm willing to bet Imafuji sensei is a little more knowledgeable than you.
