  • too much talking and too little cutting!!!~

  • Its hard to hear but hes translating to Spanish.

  • I appreciate the serious side of this, but I found this was possibly the funniest name of a youtube video ever.

  • What language are they translating into?

  • the motion along the men is crap... its very dangerous to let the shinai slide over the men like that... its a good vid and he shows it right but i see some kendoka doing the vertical motion to correct so many mens hit the mengane... i hate it xD

but debana techniques r so awesome ^^

  • good video....i find sashi men really hard to do..

had to do it for the first time yesterday..

    i don't train that long ...i gues from 8 januari 2009

  • Thank you for your comment. Yes ,I am planning to. Sorry for the delay. Will be up soon!

  • I don't understand why you don't really hit the men. I thought it is much clear for the student to know how powerful it is.

  • Thank you for your comment and advice. I don't usually strike hard when I demonstrate but I should show them a good serious cut. There was (and still is) a reason that I cannot really strike fully. I have a knee problem.

    Thanks again for your comment!

  • He looks like one of my sensei, Miyazaki-sensei

  • My sensei's name is Miyazaki sensei too :)

  • hellow!

  • heeloow

  • wow thats reeeeaaaaly not like in my kendo school, they describe it like: you shoud not show the underside of your shinai

  • hellooow

    thx for video

  • yea thats how it is at my dojo too

  • swedishkid,

    Thanks for your comment.

The way you have learned at your kendo school is also one way of striking a small men. Here what I am showing is based on a big men cut; a small men cut that involves clear cutting movement.

  • the guy in bogu has a problem with his kamae and also he has his back bended...

  • Thank you for your comment.

You are quite right. He and I talked about it and he had been working on the problem since we taped this video. I am sure that he has fixed his problems.

    Thanks

  • Hi eddydevisse,

I have asked some high ranked people to make sure how people are using the term "sashi-men". It is a pretty long article so I cannot write here. Please go to The Cyber Dojo.

Unfortunately no one has heard of sashi-waza in kendo. There may be such term in Koryu.

We all agree that sashi-men is an inappropriate technique in kendo.

Again in this video, I am not instructing sashi-men but small men.

    Thank you

  • Thank you for your comment.

I am sorry that you misunderstood the video. The video does not teach sashi-men but small men. If you do not know the difference between sashi-men and small men, please go and read the article in The Cyber Dojo.

Unfortunately not many Japanese explain what sashi-men is when they teach the word sashi-men.

    Sorry for the confusion.

In my 27 years of kendo training, I have never heard of sashi-waza. I am checking with other kendoists.

    Thanks.

  • using your wrists and elbows to do sashi-men... wow, has kendo instruction dropped to such a low level?

  • I'm willing to bet Imafuji sensei is a little more knowledgeable than you.

  • Maybe he is, but still, proper sashi-waza isn't done with the wrists. Nice to see though that someone is taking the time to make these videos. I don't agree with his teaching method, but I appreciate his contribution.

  • Fair enough.

  • good lord, this is a terrible explanation of sashi-men.
