@MsJL72 Frankie didn't have the best voice of the pop singers. But he could do more with his voice than any singer I know. And yes he could move you in a way few would even try. Fron the very first note of a recording you knew it was one of Frankie's.
you are right, frankie always sang with great feeling, when he sang I believe you felt that he realy did believe, My late wife & i called our record player in the late 50's or Frankie Laine machine, we thought he was not just a great singer but a truly very nice guy
@tipple1933 I have had many coments from couples that tell me that they fell in love to Frankie's songs. There were many singers back then who had great singing voices, but no one could put feeling into a song like Frankie could. There will never be another like him.
oops! Sorry Mark - just did another search and found that you have already uploaded "When You're In Love" - I am now very happily drinking in the memories it provides.
Just had another listen to this great track Mark. I think the UK version on the Phillips label had "When You're In Love" - on the flip side. I have it on a 78rpm vinyl somewhere. You say you have all Frankie Laine's recordings. Is it possible to upload "When You're In Love" please?
@markalson1938 Thanks. I remember it very well. Just checking the date. Thanks again. Do you have the famous and mysterious "Music, Maestro Please." Charlie
This song was popular when I first met my best friend. He's still my best friend, but I only see him 2weeks out of the year. He used to like "Someday" and I liked the flip side. Thanks for posting!
@cf1934 Both sides were great but "Someday" charted fairly high, but the flip side which like you I liked better didn't. But "There Must be A Reason" for that but I could never figure it out.
thank you for remembering me the style of Frankie Laine, i so little boy and enjoy the music and great voice of Frankie with my dad,in the ´70 he is dead in the year 80, so the memorys not dead of course!, thank you ! greatings from Argentina.
Great reflection of a past great and nostalgic oldie - I really do appreciate your uploading it - clicked "thumbs up" and "liked" for 36 pts... am favoriting it as well.
@felixbautista Your very welcome, this was one of Frankie's biggest hits from the mid fifties that like "Hummingbird" which came out about the same time is completly over looked by Columbia afterwards. They were not put on a LP and you will have a hard time finding them on a CD today.
@CarlDuke I was suprised when I looked and this song wasn't already on YT. I try not to put songs on that someone else has all ready done. This was one of his best from the mid 50's.
@KentuckyJet I would have liked to have heard them together also. Mitch Miller teamed Frankie up with a lot of Columbia's starrs but never Tony or Guy Mitchell.
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! One of my all time favourites - and it's the original. Because Frank lived to a ripe old age, he re-recorded lots of his songs over and over again - but this is definitely the original 50's version. Now if someone could just post "When You're In Love" by him from the same era it would be great.
Yes, frankie recorded his hit records over and over through the years with new arrangments trying to keep them freash. But most of them were not as good as the orginals. But I think most of his mercury recordings were better the 2d time around on Columbia. You ask for it, I just added "When You're In Love" to You Tube"
markalson, thanks so very much for sharing so many songs by Frankie Laine..he was awesome back then and his songs still touch my most sensitive emotions...please post, if you have them, 'to be worthy of you' and 'midnight on a rainy monday'; thank you VERY much! 'wucha'
Esta canción me lleva a esas inolvidables tardes con mis abuelos escuchando su hermosa colección de música y recuerdos... Gracias por revivirlos. Frankie Laine no solo un gran interprete sino un hermosa persona.
Dear Markalson; I also love his ABC cuts in the late 60s (Most of them, anyway) and his early 70s Amos tracks. This is when i discovered Laine as a pre-teen and teenager.
A lot of people have sung this song. Tony Martin and Mario Lanza come to mind...but none with the swagger of Frankie Laine, and the backing power of Paul Weston. The song was not a smash, not a flop. My own statistically-driven survey ranked it 98th among the top songs of 1954.
I think a lot of Frankie's best recordings were not the big smash hits. A lot of people have written to me about their fond memories of his lesser known recordings.
Somehow this song moves me to tears,,no idea why,,,maybe thelyrics,,or the way he sings it,,I just know I love it,,,and Frankie,,what a legascy he left,,
I think that is it,,longing,,,I love the words,,don't know why it wasn't a huge hit<<maybe it brings back lost memories,,,have plenty at my age,,hehe,,
Chicago, 1954. My brother was driving me in his convertible to our summer jobs. We always played this song at top volume. Thanks for sharing this wonderful blast from the past, Markelson!
Hi there, LA. Can't recall what kind of car it was,, but my brother had bought a used sedan, then took a hacksaw and cut the entire top off. Voila - a convertible! Three later, I dated a guy who owned a '57 T-bird convertible. Talk about ridiing in style!
Thanks again for posting this request! Again, as with the 1957 "That's My Desire," a really great performance and arrangement. Love that "regal" opening!!
We might never have heard of him if he hadn't saved Perry Como's son from drowning and he was promoted by Perry as thatnks
