I really love the movie although it isn't quite original. (But heck we're watching movies, not reading books, so that doens't bother me at all) I especially love how all the characters have been given a sort of twist which makes them much more interesting and funny. Sherlock Holmes in the book seems quite detached and he doesn't seem to be on the same level with Watson. But in the movie I feel that they've made the partnership more intimate, which I think is better :)

I found it to be kind of stale and boring. I was fighting to stay awake and actually contemplated just turning it off. Definitely a one-time see for me. I wouldn't watch it again. Glad I rented it instead of seeing it in the theater.
Robert Downey Jr. was an amazing Sherlock, but I think Jude Law could have been better; Robert Downey Jr. was hilarious enough that I'd see it over and over; 100/1

Me and a friend went to see it the first week it was out and now it is our favorite movie! Compared to others we didn't find it hard to follow, and had it pretty well figured out towards the end.
One of my favorite movies; Downey is definently not the classic holmes, but is still very -even superheroicly- perceptive; Jude Law is also not classic, but a represhing redux since no one really wanted to see a pudgy, mousy man come back to Holmes' side; great action and I loved the whole thing where he planned out his attacks before doing them. 8.9
That's for Ritchie. As for Robert Downey Jr. - since I saw him in Tropic Thunder (I admit I wasn't very fond of the movie) pretending to be black and saw his work on Tony Stark I knew he's in for a lot of great roles in the next few years. And I'm glad he was Sherlock Holmes himself. As for Holmes' fans who aren't satisfied with it - you should learn NEVER to compare works of literature and cinema.
By the way, I've never read any Holmes material and I can't really comment if Ritchie's vision of the characters is correct - but the movie entertained me to a level beyond his usual blow-your-mind effect that his other movies have on you. Since Revolver, through Rocknrolla and finally, this one, it screams out only one message - "He is back!" He's at 110% and I love his movies.

You know I don't think that you should blame Hollywood just because you're too incompetent to understand Richie's work. All I here and read is "They don't make them like they used to"... It's not the movie industry that lacks the capabilities to create great films, it's the audience that's going brain dead.
As someone that has read ALL the available Sherlock Holmes stories and has become a huge fan, I can highly recommend this movie. Even though I will offer that there are small points that the writers changed a bit, one being Holmes heroine addiction to keep his mind occupied while not on a case and the fact that Holmes is generally accepted as being much taller than RDJ has portrayed him, this movie captures the essence of Holmes and provides an amazing story to give the character exposure. :-D
The movie, as enticing and exhilarating as it is, left out mention of Holmes's cocaine habit (probably wise, given Downey's past), which ultimately left me rather saddened, but the fact that they've made a franchise viewed as "old and boring" exciting and fresh is beyond grand.

I saw this movie thursday. ive actually started reading the books again before I knew of the movie, a knowing of some storys from these books does make the film more enjoyable to watch, but it doesnt hinge on that fact. the story was well told and the mystery was pretty likend to the actual storys from the books; there is no real guessing because its impossible to know the ending unless you have heard the conclusion before. that aside, id give the movie a nine and a half out of ten.
All the scientists of the world know the lies, on the global heating, hydrogen like the true fuel and many other things but, never they do nothing. Cowards, slaves of the power and enemies of the humanity. They only recognize the club bilderberg as master.
sherlock holmes was too camp, with exaggerated accents and boring characters trying too hard to be interesting, and failing that has a miserably illogical and predictable plot. Robert Downey Jr is a good actor, but the tedious character and his stoic accent makes Sherlock Holmes a snore fest. Loved Tropic Thunder though
I liked how he cracked that very elaborate case, but I wish I could have been clued into what he was thinking a little more during the movie instead of just getting blasted with the explanation all at the end.
9/10: I've never read any of the novels so I cannot judge based one that, however the actors did a FANTASTIC jobs playing their roles and the movie had people coming back for more, (me and my family some of those people who saw it more than once). The way that Sherlock deduced the way he would fight way a nice twist to the man who would carry around a magnifying glass :)
8/10 While the film was indeed well-done and worth seeing, there was a certain lacking felt where the film had room to be more definitive. However, it was a good film nonetheless.
It wasnt what i would have expected from a Sherlock Holmes film, especially because Downey doesnt look at all like Sherklock and Jude Law looks nothing like what ive seen of Watson, but overall the story was good yet complicated and the action was great to.
(my favorite part was when he thought about the fight moves he was about to do and pictured them in his head, and then did it in like 3 seconds)

8.0 I liked the movie but it was preety complicated. It's one of those movies that once you watch it a second time you understand it more. Altough I liked the acting and the sets were incredible.
2:45 to complicated you must have been sleeping to not get some of the clues, *spoilers* the only thing that confused me a little was how he survived the first hanging, i knew theres a poison that stunts your pulse but it wouldn't stop you from dieing once hung, also what surprised me was the machine at the end, i knew they were planning on poisoning someone once they found the first lab *end spoilers*
He was not hung; he had paid the man who put the noose around his neck to put a hook in the noose and then hook it to a clasp he had behind his neck, which wrapped around his body, distributing the weight away from his neck when dropped.
I was kind of expecting them to do it like spiderman, iron man, bat man, fantastic 4, and all of those and use the same idea but make it very much a comedy at the same time.
Despite being made from special effects they portrayed London very well and added in many good landmarks. There was a lot of mumbling but I liked the plot. The movie wasn't boring but wasn't very exciting. My dad thinks it's sort of dark.
OSR: The plot is incomprehensible, but beautiful cinematography and a top notch job by the whole cast make Sherlock Holmes well worth your time and money.

James Cameron's an old school action director, he cares about plot much more than effects
The plot has been done not once, but twice before. Dances with Wolves and the Last Samurai. The plot was pretty medicore and predictable but the visual and action sequences more than made up for the plot and made the movie well worth the ticket price.
If James Cameron is an "old school action director" why would he put so much effort into the visuals that he did? Sure visuals add to the plot, but much deeper and better plots have been achieved with much less.
It didn't drag on, they made sure everything was properly told, it's like saying you're annoyed for a solid plot yet I'm sure you wouldn't have hesitated to say there were holes in the plot, if there were.

That's for Ritchie. As for Robert Downey Jr. - since I saw him in Tropic Thunder (I admit I wasn't very fond of the movie) pretending to be black and saw his work on Tony Stark I knew he's in for a lot of great roles in the next few years. And I'm glad he was Sherlock Holmes himself. As for Holmes' fans who aren't satisfied with it - you should learn NEVER to compare works of literature and cinema.

By the way, I've never read any Holmes material and I can't really comment if Ritchie's vision of the characters is correct - but the movie entertained me to a level beyond his usual blow-your-mind effect that his other movies have on you. Since Revolver, through Rocknrolla and finally, this one, it screams out only one message - "He is back!" He's at 110% and I love his movies.

You know I don't think that you should blame Hollywood just because you're too incompetent to understand Richie's work. All I here and read is "They don't make them like they used to"... It's not the movie industry that lacks the capabilities to create great films, it's the audience that's going brain dead.

As someone that has read ALL the available Sherlock Holmes stories and has become a huge fan, I can highly recommend this movie. Even though I will offer that there are small points that the writers changed a bit, one being Holmes heroine addiction to keep his mind occupied while not on a case and the fact that Holmes is generally accepted as being much taller than RDJ has portrayed him, this movie captures the essence of Holmes and provides an amazing story to give the character exposure. :-D

The movie, as enticing and exhilarating as it is, left out mention of Holmes's cocaine habit (probably wise, given Downey's past), which ultimately left me rather saddened, but the fact that they've made a franchise viewed as "old and boring" exciting and fresh is beyond grand.

I saw this movie thursday. ive actually started reading the books again before I knew of the movie, a knowing of some storys from these books does make the film more enjoyable to watch, but it doesnt hinge on that fact. the story was well told and the mystery was pretty likend to the actual storys from the books; there is no real guessing because its impossible to know the ending unless you have heard the conclusion before. that aside, id give the movie a nine and a half out of ten.

They really reinvented Sherlock Holmes to the max. But I enjoyed it and now I deeply wish I was as observant as Sherlock
Holmes. Great chemistry between Law and Downey. I always enjoy Downey's humor so I mostly watched for that.
Recommend watch. 9.5/10

sherlock holmes was too camp, with exaggerated accents and boring characters trying too hard to be interesting, and failing that has a miserably illogical and predictable plot. Robert Downey Jr is a good actor, but the tedious character and his stoic accent makes Sherlock Holmes a snore fest. Loved Tropic Thunder though

I liked how he cracked that very elaborate case, but I wish I could have been clued into what he was thinking a little more during the movie instead of just getting blasted with the explanation all at the end.

9/10: I've never read any of the novels so I cannot judge based one that, however the actors did a FANTASTIC jobs playing their roles and the movie had people coming back for more, (me and my family some of those people who saw it more than once). The way that Sherlock deduced the way he would fight way a nice twist to the man who would carry around a magnifying glass :)

It wasnt what i would have expected from a Sherlock Holmes film, especially because Downey doesnt look at all like Sherklock and Jude Law looks nothing like what ive seen of Watson, but overall the story was good yet complicated and the action was great to.
(my favorite part was when he thought about the fight moves he was about to do and pictured them in his head, and then did it in like 3 seconds)

I give this movie a 10/10. At first I thought this movie would be boring and stupid, but, suprisingly enough, it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole movie. It is action packed and has a great way of explaining things in the end. The charecters and actors for them are amazing I loved this movie. AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!

2:45 to complicated you must have been sleeping to not get some of the clues, *spoilers* the only thing that confused me a little was how he survived the first hanging, i knew theres a poison that stunts your pulse but it wouldn't stop you from dieing once hung, also what surprised me was the machine at the end, i knew they were planning on poisoning someone once they found the first lab *end spoilers*

He was not hung; he had paid the man who put the noose around his neck to put a hook in the noose and then hook it to a clasp he had behind his neck, which wrapped around his body, distributing the weight away from his neck when dropped.

Despite being made from special effects they portrayed London very well and added in many good landmarks. There was a lot of mumbling but I liked the plot. The movie wasn't boring but wasn't very exciting. My dad thinks it's sort of dark.

The plot of avatar was predictable poorly done and grotesquely predictable, I felt like I wasted my time watching a movie when I knew what was going to happen just from the trailer, at least Sherlock surprised and interested me, but alas ones a smart movie and the other isn't and their audiences show it

Who said that? Tell them to watch dances with wolves. Avatar was a needed breath of fresh air for action films, there are still people hanging on the fixation that action plots are stupid.
James Cameron's an old school action director, he cares about plot much more than effects

The plot has been done not once, but twice before. Dances with Wolves and the Last Samurai. The plot was pretty medicore and predictable but the visual and action sequences more than made up for the plot and made the movie well worth the ticket price.
If James Cameron is an "old school action director" why would he put so much effort into the visuals that he did? Sure visuals add to the plot, but much deeper and better plots have been achieved with much less.

It didn't drag on, they made sure everything was properly told, it's like saying you're annoyed for a solid plot yet I'm sure you wouldn't have hesitated to say there were holes in the plot, if there were.
