@whanaublood first im not a "noob'' ive been around the fight game for decades, next Ali did not want to get hit,he did however want to wear his adversarys down,or punch them out.when he lost his legs, really after the early 70's he started takin serious wear and tear.ive seen about everything on him ever done,he gained experience by fighting and training not by taking too many devastating head shots.lokk he took too many shots, its obvious,he can barely talk.boxing is tuff,he was great too.not #1
Whilst I respect what "Ali", AKA Cassius Clay, acheived in the ring I do not respect what he did out of the ring with regards to war dodging. @OdinsCloud here we have some leftest wigger asshole likely brainwashed by a Marxist college professor. You can bet he voted for Obama. The Klitschkos rule. Nothing to whine about.
@fatchef81 Concerning your views on Ali's refusal to fight in Vietnam, Ali would never have seen a day of action. As a professional boxer and champion at the time, he would have simply fought exhibition fights to entertain the troops much in the same way that Joe Louis did. So, for anyone call Ali a coward for that, which is what you seem to be implying, just isn't right. I didn't agree with it either, but the man's beliefs are his beliefs. He suffered the consequences of them greatly.
@fatchef81 Concerning the Clay-Cooper fight, there are two problems with what you say. First, the supposed torn glove incident only bought Clay about an extra 6 seconds. The fight footage on both tv and radio demonstrate this as did several who witnessed the event outside of the ring. Second, although "stimulants" were banned by British boxing at the time, smelling salts were still perfectly legal in the States until sometime in the '70s. Apparently, that's where the discrepancy or mixup lies
Boxing's rules haven't changed but the manner in which the fights are fought has changed. Back then Boxing was WAR, and fighters generally fought more like a real fight, and you had the knockdown, dragout fights like Marciano-Walcott, Ali-Frazier, Foreman-Lyle, etc. Nowadays Boxing is conducted more like a sport with a more reserved, almost hesitant manner of fighting. You hardly ever see fights like those today, and that's why boxing has declined, because it has become more gentle.
@NUNCLEFRITZ - you obviously have absolutely zero clue about what you are saying. It is quite apparent that you are just attempting to stir the pot. Have a nice day.
@rockystars11 - I hope ur fuckin kidding or that is some ignorant shit u just said. Research the man before you judge him based solely on what religion he follows!

happy birthday ali. he's such an idol. there may never be another him. a true american warrior who doesn't runaway from fights. unlike today. all hype and BS. you just can't compare ali to guys like mayweather.
Bill Cayton himself - a gentleman and a boxing historian - said only Ali of 1966 would have beaten Tyson on the night he defeated Spinks. And don;t be fooled by his record; he beat some excellent fighters. Pinky Thomas (one loss), Tony Tucker (undefeated), Spinks (undefeated and linear champ), Tyrell Biggs (undefeated and gold medalist) - and he didn't just beat these guys he destroyed/outboxed them completely.
The 'Tyson place in history' debate is interesting but you can only judge boxers in their prime. You can say Tyson was beaten by a mediocre Douglas but he was mentally shot (Ali on the other hand was very strong mentally despite being criticised for avoiding the draft as well as being chased through the courts by numerous women!) and the Tyson who beat Spinks was a real force. He had the right team behind him but he certainly went down hill quickly when those around him just used him for money.
mullets rule3388 go suck yourself, drink some ale as much as you can pick a fight and show people how tough you are> Ali dodged the draft really?? Geoge w Bush did so did Cheyne Dick and Rumsfield too then there is Wolfowitz dodged the draft he gave up 3 prime years of boxing what have you ever givem up? how about give up being a MORON.
This Ali may have lost to Tyson but the 1966 version wouldn't have. He would have sticked and moved all night and won by points clearly. Ali would have cut Rocky to ribbons and stopped Louis in ten. I think he would have struggled with a prime Holmes even in 1996 but he would have won a very boring fight. He would have been too fast for Holmes but he wouldn't have knocked him out.
The last 30 seconds or so, there are flashes of the young Ali there, making Shavers swing at thin air, and catching him at the same time, then punch after punch... The young Ali would have taken shavers out within 6 rounds.
I watched this one on live network TV. I forgot how good these guys really were.
Ali won a few decisions he didn't deserve, mainly because the officials didn't see punches affecting him, so they assumed they weren't scoring. He paid a very high price for that toughness and bravery, but he probably believes it was worth it.
A lot of fighters who lost to Ali would have no trouble winning a title today. Larry Holmes was the last of the real heavyweight fighters.
Guys like Mayweather and Pacman may be the best pound for pound fighters in this particular era but Ali is the best pound for pound fighter that ever existed. Ali's skills, stamina and natural fighting abilities are second to none still imo.
was ali ever out his prime...? i mean yeah you slow down with age. but he still gave as good as he got, cooper was the only one who hurt ali properly, ali said when henry cooper hit me, my african ancestors felt it lol... when boxing was great. i wasnt alive, thanks too youtube though i get to see all the things i would only ever hear or read about, thanks for the upload....
@dean24uk yeah of course what out of hi prime. after he came from layoff in 1970 ali was way out of his prim , he lacked speed , reflexes of 60s but he still dominated the 70s though
@inviziblehunter my point exactly, he still dominated, so was he ever out of prime..? usually when people say a boxer has lost his prime time, it means they loose fights, that was not ali, so in my eyes he never faded really, just got slower witch is natural..bit ignorant too say out of prime when your still winning big name fights...;)
@dean24uk dude what is your thinking process dominating does not necessarly mean that you are in your prime , just look at his fight with clevland william ( it is on the right side comment) look how he avoided punches, how fast he was , reflex and speed and everything, but once he came back he go hit and he was more of flat footed, he could not avoided as he wanted to
@cozmic24 no, i know that, and i seen all the ali fights worth seeing' but dont you think its ignorant or contridictive to say washed up, or out of prime, when he clearly is still winning named fights in this era..? (70s) yes i agree prime means at your best, he was not in the best shape, or at his best but he was still winning fights not loosing.. so to say any less of the man is unfair but its my opinion :) happy new year
@cozmic24 oh i agree 100 percent but washed up or lost his prime.. not nice when your still top dog .if you was beating people 10 years on from when you were hailed as the greatest and i called you a out of prime fighter, lost your touch, past your best, etc you wouldnt feel thats harsh to say ?..im just saying i dont think ali was ever out of prime.. he just changed style. but was still too good, to slander as washed up etc...
@dean24uk u dont have to take out of prime in bad way though, imagine if he beat all those big guys when he was not as good as he could be, imagine how truely he great he is
@cozmic24 yes would be good, and most people who say washed up or out of prime, they do mean it in a bad way, the world we live in now, nobody ever say anything that's nice...all negative and hate, and no respect for others, but that's going off track, slightly
Ali still had the hand speed in the 70's, but not the foot speed. He could be hit, as we saw many times. The Ali of the 60's was pratically untouchable.
Shavers was a great puncher, but he was so wild and reckless with his punches. Add to that he also suffered from exhaustion after at least 8 rounds. That said, however, he landed hard shots on Ali in every round of this fight. Ali benefited from being the sentimental favorite in 1977, but after Manila he should have retired. Jimmy Young would learn the same lesson Shavers did. Don't mess with the sentimental favorite, no matter how many more points you score. Leon Spinks won begrudgingly.
even foreman fought when he was old with holyfield and they fought 12 rounds holyfield won but he was too younger .like my father said they were gold generation in boxing
Alis fought probbly the 3 biggest punches in the history of boxing Liston, Foreman, Shavers just shows you why he is the greatest of all time PERIOD!!!
Even though Shavers is older than Evander, with all the kids Holyfield has,who knows he may still be Shavers daddy.Ali's greatness is the fact that after missing his prime years of his career that he went on to be considered the Greatest of All Time beating great fighters when he was past his prime. An older and slower Ali beat legendary Foreman,Frazier, Norton(Three Hall Of Famers),Shavers, and Lyle AFTER HE TURNED 30 AND IN SOME CASES HIS MID THIRTIES.The GOAT and STILL UNDERATED.My Man Ali
This fight must have done Ali some serious damage, he took so many huge punches from Shavers - probably the hardest-hitting heavyweight of all time. Ali's performance in the last round was superhuman, but I wish he'd retired 3 years earlier.
@leafyutube Shavers was not that good he had a horrible style he faught like an ape In my opinion Foreman is the hardest hitting heavy ever! not tyson, marciano, ...shavers..lol Ali did say shavers hit the hardest but foreman really never hit Ali enough said...
Ernie Shavers said Ali was the toughest fighter he ever faced. Shavers said, "I hit him with some of the best punches I've ever thrown, and he just kept hitting me. I honestly believe that he can't be knocked out. I would've hated to fight him, in his prime."
This is why Ali was the best. He was always ready to die than to be beaten. The last American heavyweight to have that mentality was Holyfield and Foreman before him.
There's no way in hell Tyson would have beaten Ali. Ali at 22 would have beat the 22 year-old bully Tyson just like he beat the bully Liston. Tyson would likely have quit. Tyson rarely did well when his opponent fought back. Further, Tyson would not have hit a 22 year-old Ali very much.
@rlf1967 I was a Tyson fan, but let's face it, he was a bully; the few fights where others really fought back, he lost. ou can't say that about Ali. Harder punchers than Tyson (Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, and probablt Norton) hit Ali and couldn't get it done. Tyson would never have lasted into the later rounds with Ali and he surely would have never knocked him out early.
@GETole i agree i bet Ali would mentally break tyson down before the fight and wear tyson down all fight. But i dont think frazier or norton hit as hard as tyson.
@jorgeiramain Look, I was a Tyson fan, but he NEVER fought the competition the guys from the 1970s did. He did not hit harder than any of the guys you mention--especially Foreman or Shavers--their 1 punch power was much greater than Tyson's; they were bigger/stronger men. And I don't think you'd find any expert that would disagree w/ me. Tyson would have been an afterthought against Ali, Frazier, Norton, or Foreman. Hell, he couldn't hang w/ Holyfield for God's sake.
@GETole tyson in his prime is the greatest even ali says he couldn't win against mike...and I see many fights of foreman or frazier and both are great but mike is more strong, faster and brutal...I think tyson in his prime was untouchable
@jorgeiramain Tyson's prime? He was dethroned at age 23--by Buster Douglass--LOL. Who did he ever fight & beat that was worth a crap? Every time someone really fought back, he lost. Ali's comments about not being able to win against Tyson were simply an old man being nice. Ali was a staunch competitor & had more heart than Tyson. Tyson never came back and won a fight he was losing. He was a great puncher & better than many, but he was a bully & fell apart when it counted.
@GETole hahah are they really using that as a case, of course when at that video he was old and just trying to be nice, but it would bave been best boxing match to watch ali prime and tyson prime
Say what one will about Ali, pro or con. Few heavyweights in history matched Ali for resolve and determination, and this final round proves it. When he went back to the corner after the 14th round, Ali had nothing left. He was hurt and staggering. To do what he did in this final round was every bit as incredible as his late-rounds comeback in Manila.
folks, Tyson was great for what 3 years...he lost to douglas in 1990? Ali was great at age 22 beating liston...and at 32 b eating foreman...and at 35 beating shavers...i mean come on, he beat foreman, frazier, liston, norton...foreman beat moorer who beat holyfield who beat tyson...if foreman was 5 years younger he would have beat holyfield by knocking him out of the ring...the evidence chain that runs thru foreman is definitive...Ali destroys Tyson
Dick Enberg is excellent calling this fight, along with Kenny Norton. Quite possibly the best 15th round by Ali. The scoring on this fight is terrible. More money to be made by Ali being the champ.........my opinion.....
is this mike tyson on steroid, wow it amazeme ali with bieng way out of his prime, and out of shape, and people asking him to retire and still delever this to someone who loook like bigger and more stronger version of tyson , symply amazing
Who would win in a game between a rugby team and a soccer one? Compare MMA with Boxing has no sense. For me, Boxing is a better sport than MMA (as well Soccer is better than Rugby). And MMA is not "the real fight" or something like that: you can't use a weapon (knife, nunchaku, bat, knuckles...) or strike to vital points; the low tricks also are not allowed. Another point: I think the relation between sport and art is strengthened when the ability prevails the brute force.
Muhamad Ali made boxing what it is today. He was a party to the greatest heavyweight fights ever. At the end of his career, he beat George Foreman, Ken Norton, and Joe Frazier. All in their primes. You couldn't knock this man out, you can't out entertain him, and you can't out punch him. You had to hope for a knockdown(Frazier) or an injury(Broken jaw, rd 1, vs Norton) to beat him. He fought 11 1/2 rounds, against KEN NORTON with a broken jaw. So you can't out tough him either.
George Foreman: when Foreman was asked who were the hardest hitters, he said, Lyle, Cleveland Williams, Gerry Cooney. When asked about Shavers, he said, ' I never fought Earnie Shavers. Thank goodness!'
Arguably the heavyweight round of the seventies, and with so many great fighters around that's really saying something. Shavers was so sure he'd won he had what was intended as a consoling arm around Ali at the end; it and Shavers disappeared to the other side of the ring sharpish on hearing the first judge's decision!
@lgadwords What does MMA have to do with boxing , if you know anything about fighting you would respect that boxing is an art itself , and Ali was a master of it. Ali is 35 here aswell , peace out.
@lgadwords boxing is fighting you mong , and you were comparing the best boxer of all time to mixed martial arts which is a total different sport from boxing , get educated,
@lgadwords Ali wouldnt last 2 min in mma? ok logical enough but ill give you another question: How long would a mma fighter last in a boxing match with ali? Hmmm i would love to see that :) and i think the sports score is 1-1 so the smartest thing we can do now is just to 'respect both sports' :)
@Tuberify91 Irrelavant it's like saying how many aces can Agassi hit against Federer... an Ace is just a subset of a real Tennis match, similiarly Boxing is just a subset of real fighting. Just like wrestling, if you're going to fight, fight not just punch.
@lgadwords Yes its not real fighting, but that doesnt mean that it doesnt get the job done in real fighting. 80% of all types of fights in the ring, in the cage and on the streets start and end up with punches because its just humans best weapon in accuracy and speed. Thats all u need to get the job done. I was once european champion in muay thai (amateur). I had 34 fights, 27 wins and 7 losses. 6 of those 7 losses were from fighters who were boxers before. Im still dizzy from those fights.
@Tuberify91 B.S. you pulled those stats out of your ass? Boxing is a dying sport, and worthless vs a real MMA fighter who brings him to the ground. Best weapon my ass, the best weapon is your mind, not your fists dipshit. Anything can "get the job done". Boxing is the sport of punching it's not actual fighting, and Ali might have been a good puncher but that's stuff is history, old news. He's not the greatest anymore.
@lgadwords Why are u getting so angry? Are u so sensitive about that? Lol! Did u ever found someone on youtube that could change his oppinion? This is my opinion cause i tried both and it will stay that way so dont try to change that with curses cause it wont work!! Stop talking if u cant have a confersation!
@Tuberify91 Judging from your spelling you MUST be black. LOL No one's angry here, I was merely stating a fact which you obviously have absolutely no argument or refute of which doesn't surprise me because deep down inside you know I'm right. Ali was loud - that's all, sorry to disappoint and crush your childhood hero.
@lgadwords I see u got Ali's confedence, nice hahaha. I think that u MUST be a racist, im 100% white dont worry about that! There is no reason for me to argue any further cause the more ill answer the more ull keep talking so this will never end like always..And sorry if i hurt ur feelings again but if u believe in it ull be someones hero too some day :) hahahahaha
@Tuberify91 Hurt my feelings lol that's funny. I'm not the least bit insulted or angry nor hurt by anything you do or say or will say but nice try. I'm 100% right and that's all there is to it. :)
@lgadwords boxing is a dying sport? well people lie but number don't let and numbers say that Boxing is a consistent sport while MMa is just hype. Recently Mayweather vs ortiz payper view buys were in millions while UFC payper view buys barely got to 100 thousand. You hear me? Number's don't lie
Actually UFC is a dying sport, Don't believe me just look at the numbers
stupid argue who hits harder. many amateurs could knock Ali or anybody---if they could hit clean in the weak point like chin. but they cant . some people can crash stones or wood with their fist-- are they champions of boxing?
@martpast1 somebody who knows what they are talking about. Hate people who think a fighter is measured by punching power , a fighter is nothing without technique.
Why everybody in the stadium did not like Ali winning in this fight? I mean, you can clearly see the public 's reation when the judge says that Ali won the fight.
@Embraer091 Well the judges loved Ali and he got many "friendly decisions". Ali won this fight, but Norton and Frazier would agree about Ali getting many squeek by decisions (a few unjustified imo).
@aitraining ---definitely that 3d Norton fight was a gift for Ali. Jimmy Young was another, although Young hurt himself by sticking his head outside the ropes a few times.
ali is past his best here as he had been in aging fights and still ernie who between him and foreman are the hardest punches in history cannot take hime
Ali had tremendous legs and stamina. Unbelievable. and I never really liked him.. but he is probably my third best of all time if I had to rank them, Joe Louis being first overall. the debate of Marciano vs Ali is unwinnable. I'd still bet on the Rock
@skaha77 you do that and you would lose. ali was faster, tougher, and had more skill. He also had this belief that he was placed here as a black super man. Now that is a powerful reason to win
@chaka943 Ok I often get into the Marciano vs Ali debates. I still pick Joe Louis as best ever. Marciano was a very hard guy to figure out. Hard to read, because he was unorthodox and very good a bobbing under, then exploding from the legs-up. Rocky hit a whole lot harder than Frazier and we know that Frazier beat Ali. Ali = something else, though
@skaha77 well rocky could not hit as hard as shavers or foreman and we know what happened to them. You also failed to mention that frazier beat ali once. Ali beat him twice
@chaka943 I agree. Foreman hit harder than Shavers, Frazier and Rocky. Ali got by Frazier in 2 fights by the skin of his teeth (and friendly judges if u ask me). Norton beat him without getting the nod at Yankee stadium too. Not to take anything away from Ali, but he always had the crowd, media and judges on his side. In close fights (which Ali had many - it mattered)
Even the PA announcer shows disrespect and favoritism to Ali. At 3:43 he calls the rounds by decision and then says " the winner - the one and only Muhammed Ali". I mean cmon! Not appropriate while Shavers is in the corner haven given his heart in this fight. The media and judges were in Ali's crotch. Earnie would have had to knock him out to win. It's amazing Leon Spinks got a split the folliwing year with Ali - even though he dominated and it shud have been unanimous.
@aitraining i dont disagree with you,but thats how it is when you enter the halls of legends. Sugar ray leonard had that kind of favoritism too as seen in the hagler fight, and when he fought kevin howard. Ali had been fighting since the late 50s and by the time he had fought shavers was just a shadow of himself. My point is that even then shavers who between him and foreman were the hardest punches ever could not knockout ali.
@chaka943 Got no problem with that and yes - Sugar Ray Leonard was very similar to Ali in that the judges and media LOVED the guy (flair and talk). Leonard stole many rounds with his baby "pat-a-pat" thing on his opponents head at the end of rounds (a famous crowd loving Ali trick) which rarely ever hurt the other boxer. Marvin Hagler was the better fighter if u ask me. Marvin was probbaly smart enough to know he had to knock out Leonard to beat him. The end of round exchanges was b.s
I saw this fight back in 1977 and I felt the way the crowd felt. Shavers got ripped off!

what the fuck is that?

Ali is a hero because he had the integrity and courage to say no to american warmongering.

Bill Cayton himself - a gentleman and a boxing historian - said only Ali of 1966 would have beaten Tyson on the night he defeated Spinks. And don;t be fooled by his record; he beat some excellent fighters. Pinky Thomas (one loss), Tony Tucker (undefeated), Spinks (undefeated and linear champ), Tyrell Biggs (undefeated and gold medalist) - and he didn't just beat these guys he destroyed/outboxed them completely.
johnnydancer1969 3 weeks ago
The 'Tyson place in history' debate is interesting but you can only judge boxers in their prime. You can say Tyson was beaten by a mediocre Douglas but he was mentally shot (Ali on the other hand was very strong mentally despite being criticised for avoiding the draft as well as being chased through the courts by numerous women!) and the Tyson who beat Spinks was a real force. He had the right team behind him but he certainly went down hill quickly when those around him just used him for money.
johnnydancer1969 3 weeks ago
mullets rule3388 go suck yourself, drink some ale as much as you can pick a fight and show people how tough you are> Ali dodged the draft really?? Geoge w Bush did so did Cheyne Dick and Rumsfield too then there is Wolfowitz dodged the draft he gave up 3 prime years of boxing what have you ever givem up? how about give up being a MORON.
chessman19 3 weeks ago
This Ali may have lost to Tyson but the 1966 version wouldn't have. He would have sticked and moved all night and won by points clearly. Ali would have cut Rocky to ribbons and stopped Louis in ten. I think he would have struggled with a prime Holmes even in 1996 but he would have won a very boring fight. He would have been too fast for Holmes but he wouldn't have knocked him out.

The last 30 seconds or so, there are flashes of the young Ali there, making Shavers swing at thin air, and catching him at the same time, then punch after punch... The young Ali would have taken shavers out within 6 rounds.
schpongled 3 weeks ago
I watched this one on live network TV. I forgot how good these guys really were.
Ali won a few decisions he didn't deserve, mainly because the officials didn't see punches affecting him, so they assumed they weren't scoring. He paid a very high price for that toughness and bravery, but he probably believes it was worth it.
A lot of fighters who lost to Ali would have no trouble winning a title today. Larry Holmes was the last of the real heavyweight fighters.

@dean24uk yeah of course what out of hi prime. after he came from layoff in 1970 ali was way out of his prim , he lacked speed , reflexes of 60s but he still dominated the 70s though
inviziblehunter 1 month ago
@inviziblehunter my point exactly, he still dominated, so was he ever out of prime..? usually when people say a boxer has lost his prime time, it means they loose fights, that was not ali, so in my eyes he never faded really, just got slower witch is natural..bit ignorant too say out of prime when your still winning big name fights...;)
dean24uk 1 month ago
@dean24uk dude what is your thinking process dominating does not necessarly mean that you are in your prime , just look at his fight with clevland william ( it is on the right side comment) look how he avoided punches, how fast he was , reflex and speed and everything, but once he came back he go hit and he was more of flat footed, he could not avoided as he wanted to
cozmic24 1 month ago
@cozmic24 no, i know that, and i seen all the ali fights worth seeing' but dont you think its ignorant or contridictive to say washed up, or out of prime, when he clearly is still winning named fights in this era..? (70s) yes i agree prime means at your best, he was not in the best shape, or at his best but he was still winning fights not loosing.. so to say any less of the man is unfair but its my opinion :) happy new year

@dean24uk i was not say he was loosing , but back in 60s he was invincible, so if i have to choose i would say ali before layoff is better

Ernie Shavers said Ali was the toughest fighter he ever faced. Shavers said, "I hit him with some of the best punches I've ever thrown, and he just kept hitting me. I honestly believe that he can't be knocked out. I would've hated to fight him, in his prime."
TheExMarineCop 2 months ago 42
This is why Ali was the best. He was always ready to die than to be beaten. The last American heavyweight to have that mentality was Holyfield and Foreman before him.
grant21999 2 months ago
There's no way in hell Tyson would have beaten Ali. Ali at 22 would have beat the 22 year-old bully Tyson just like he beat the bully Liston. Tyson would likely have quit. Tyson rarely did well when his opponent fought back. Further, Tyson would not have hit a 22 year-old Ali very much.
GETole 2 months ago
@GETole tyson in his prime before the problems ali would lose tyson had speed too
rlf1967 2 months ago
@rlf1967 I was a Tyson fan, but let's face it, he was a bully; the few fights where others really fought back, he lost. ou can't say that about Ali. Harder punchers than Tyson (Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, and probablt Norton) hit Ali and couldn't get it done. Tyson would never have lasted into the later rounds with Ali and he surely would have never knocked him out early.
GETole 2 months ago
@GETole i agree i bet Ali would mentally break tyson down before the fight and wear tyson down all fight. But i dont think frazier or norton hit as hard as tyson.

jorgeiramain 3 weeks ago
@jorgeiramain Look, I was a Tyson fan, but he NEVER fought the competition the guys from the 1970s did. He did not hit harder than any of the guys you mention--especially Foreman or Shavers--their 1 punch power was much greater than Tyson's; they were bigger/stronger men. And I don't think you'd find any expert that would disagree w/ me. Tyson would have been an afterthought against Ali, Frazier, Norton, or Foreman. Hell, he couldn't hang w/ Holyfield for God's sake.
GETole 3 weeks ago
@GETole tyson in his prime is the greatest even ali says he couldn't win against mike...and I see many fights of foreman or frazier and both are great but mike is more strong, faster and brutal...I think tyson in his prime was untouchable
jorgeiramain 3 weeks ago
@jorgeiramain Tyson's prime? He was dethroned at age 23--by Buster Douglass--LOL. Who did he ever fight & beat that was worth a crap? Every time someone really fought back, he lost. Ali's comments about not being able to win against Tyson were simply an old man being nice. Ali was a staunch competitor & had more heart than Tyson. Tyson never came back and won a fight he was losing. He was a great puncher & better than many, but he was a bully & fell apart when it counted.
GETole 3 weeks ago

Hermacruzong 2 months ago
Muhamad Ali made boxing what it is today. He was a party to the greatest heavyweight fights ever. At the end of his career, he beat George Foreman, Ken Norton, and Joe Frazier. All in their primes. You couldn't knock this man out, you can't out entertain him, and you can't out punch him. You had to hope for a knockdown(Frazier) or an injury(Broken jaw, rd 1, vs Norton) to beat him. He fought 11 1/2 rounds, against KEN NORTON with a broken jaw. So you can't out tough him either.
TheExMarineCop 2 months ago
George Foreman: when Foreman was asked who were the hardest hitters, he said, Lyle, Cleveland Williams, Gerry Cooney. When asked about Shavers, he said, ' I never fought Earnie Shavers. Thank goodness!'

Arguably the heavyweight round of the seventies, and with so many great fighters around that's really saying something. Shavers was so sure he'd won he had what was intended as a consoling arm around Ali at the end; it and Shavers disappeared to the other side of the ring sharpish on hearing the first judge's decision!

Tuberify91 3 months ago
@Tuberify91 Irrelavant it's like saying how many aces can Agassi hit against Federer... an Ace is just a subset of a real Tennis match, similiarly Boxing is just a subset of real fighting. Just like wrestling, if you're going to fight, fight not just punch.
lgadwords 3 months ago
@lgadwords Yes its not real fighting, but that doesnt mean that it doesnt get the job done in real fighting. 80% of all types of fights in the ring, in the cage and on the streets start and end up with punches because its just humans best weapon in accuracy and speed. Thats all u need to get the job done. I was once european champion in muay thai (amateur). I had 34 fights, 27 wins and 7 losses. 6 of those 7 losses were from fighters who were boxers before. Im still dizzy from those fights.
Tuberify91 3 months ago
@Tuberify91 B.S. you pulled those stats out of your ass? Boxing is a dying sport, and worthless vs a real MMA fighter who brings him to the ground. Best weapon my ass, the best weapon is your mind, not your fists dipshit. Anything can "get the job done". Ali had tremendous legs and stamina. Unbelievable. and I never really liked him.. but he is probably my third best of all time if I had to rank them, Joe Louis being first overall. the debate of Marciano vs Ali is unwinnable. I'd still bet on the Rock
skaha77 4 months ago
@skaha77 you do that and you would lose. ali was faster, tougher, and had more skill. He also had this belief that he was placed here as a black super man. Now that is a powerful reason to win
chaka943 4 months ago
@chaka943 Ok I often get into the Marciano vs Ali debates. I still pick Joe Louis as best ever. Marciano was a very hard guy to figure out. Hard to read, because he was unorthodox and very good a bobbing under, then exploding from the legs-up. Rocky hit a whole lot harder than Frazier and we know that Frazier beat Ali. Ali = something else, though
skaha77 4 months ago
@skaha77 well rocky could not hit as hard as shavers or foreman and we know what happened to them. You also failed to mention that frazier beat ali once. Ali beat him twice
chaka943 4 months ago
@chaka943 I agree. Foreman hit harder than Shavers, Frazier and Rocky. Ali got by Frazier in 2 fights by the skin of his teeth (and friendly judges if u ask me). Norton beat him without getting the nod at Yankee stadium too. Not to take anything away from Ali, but he always had the crowd, media and judges on his side. In close fights (which Ali had many - it mattered)
aitraining 3 months ago
Even the PA announcer shows disrespect and favoritism to Ali. At 3:43 he calls the rounds by decision and then says " the winner - the one and only Muhammed Ali". I mean cmon! Not appropriate while Shavers is in the corner haven given his heart in this fight. The media and judges were in Ali's crotch. Earnie would have had to knock him out to win. It's amazing Leon Spinks got a split the folliwing year with Ali - even though he dominated and it shud have been unanimous.
aitraining 3 months ago
@aitraining i dont disagree with you,but thats how it is when you enter the halls of legends. Sugar ray leonard had that kind of favoritism too as seen in the hagler fight, and when he fought kevin howard. Ali had been fighting since the late 50s and by the time he had fought shavers was just a shadow of himself. My point is that even then shavers who between him and foreman were the hardest punches ever could not knockout ali.
chaka943 3 months ago
@chaka943 Got no problem with that and yes - Sugar Ray Leonard was very similar to Ali in that the judges and media LOVED the guy (flair and talk). Leonard stole many rounds with his baby "pat-a-pat" thing on his opponents head at the end of rounds (a famous crowd loving Ali trick) which rarely ever hurt the other boxer. Marvin Hagler was the better fighter if u ask me. Marvin was probbaly smart enough to know he had to knock out Leonard to beat him. The end of round exchanges was b.s
