Her dramatic opening gives me goosebumps. Her ensuing lyricism brings me to tears. The best version of this aria, bar none. This role was made for her.
Price was above all others the undoubteded greatest Verdi sopranos of the 20thC.and (for me at least) the greatest of all Aidas.
She said Aida was her favourite role for many reasons, not least because she was "last in,first out" referrening of course toi the very simple make up she had to do as Aida.
One of the very very few sopranos of the same stature as Callas, and Sutherland.
A truly uniue original.
Many aritsts are respected, but few loved as much as Ms Price.
What gorgeous intensity! I saw her 3 times in this - it's impossible to describe the effect of the physical thrill. Such a big, luscious even voice until about 1975. Her's were some of the largest yet most beautiful pianissimi heard in any opera house - and when she let loose in the Triumphal scene - you heard her line over and above the chorus!
An odd thought, but it makes me a bit sad to think Verdi never got to hear this. Surely, even in his head, he couldn't have imagined a more beautifully accomplished performance.
She was a huge Callas fan, which makes me love her even more. I think she had this role in her pocket the whole time and I dare say, one of the only singers I would rank next to Callas. Gencer comes to mind as well. Numi pieta... good lord almighty! Who sings like that?
I saw Violetta Urmana at the Met last week as Aida and, poor thing! Every time she was on-stage, I pictured Price in my mind, both visually and vocally. On the other hand, Dolora Zajic was phenomenal as Amneris, although she's losing some of her bite.
Impressive and wonderfull the form as she sings and comes after a long and difficult aria to C and the most incredible thing is the marvelous way she maintains the C and after descends in the most natural and gorgeous way that I've heard so far, is absolutely overwhelming, we will never again listen this voice again
Grazie mille il piu grande Soprano VERdiano di tutti i tempi che onore:)

she's great, indeed, but in this aria there's no high C, maybe you are referring to the aria Cieli azzurri in third act?

Yes..!!, thank you , you right , it was my mistake,
and she is great of course, I am a big fan.
