@darth8freak when the kick releases power the toes are pointed i can only s=assume you condition toes like a ballet dancer (seriously) or your shoes are protecting the toes from breaking the foot juts im not being critical its only an observation.
@mikevern69 ok I think I see what you mean. Well as I said the kick is called ti tui, toe kick. The foot is straight but the toes aren't the area, it's supposed to be higher on the foot, between the toes and the ankle. When I kick without shoes I have the toes pointing upward. :)
@mikevern69 chinese fight with shoes on.sometimes they are metal tipped like steel toe shoes or have blades. This technique was meant to pierce soft areas like the bladder (not in a literal sense unless it's a knife) the bladder is very thin. even with regular shoes you can cause a rupture that can cause a tear enough for the urine to seep out from the inside and cause some type of infection like septesemia and lead to death.
whether or not your doing the form exactly how the 'gurus' say it should be, your movement looks really good. it looks like its alot to memorize and fatigue definetely plays a factor when you get to the later movements. keep up the good work!
Sure most Tan Tui practices with low kicks. I also practice with high kicks for the same reason mentioned by Darth- kick high in practice to be that much faster when striking groin and knees in application. If you practice kicks with focus you shouldnt have any problem striking low targets. In part, I practice Tan Tui to help my kicking overall. If you want to call it wrong then good for you, I dont care- it works for me.
good stances but a bit high and too jerky kinda looked like karate lol try doing the form slowly almost like tai chi it will help you get more fluid with the form when you perform it fast
1 reason why non-chinese student don't learn the tradition kung-fu, coz they do not contrate on one but speed it up to finish and then start another one-----it seems to non-chinese--- policy is ==the more the better==the more the better==
I'm looking for a teacher in long fist! I dont really know about the differences between Tan Tui or any other forms of it. Could Someone tell me the difference?
Tan Tui used to be a style on its own. Now it's sort of incorporated within long fist. Long Fist is sort of a general term to desribe northern styles though it's also a style which was created not so long ago based on long fist styles. Cha Quan, Hua Quan and other. So there're many long fist styles but there's also a style called long fist. They may look alike but will have differences in shapes...
i definitly not think of myself as as expert! Where do I say things in a bragging way? Please tell me and/or teach me!
Regarding the height of the kicks, look at Han Ching Tan and Li Mao Ching, they kick rather high. Though my master (Yang Jwing-Ming) says that we should kick high to train the legs. But anyway I wasn't taught with the traditional training so my level can't be good. I try to correct this though
well I was actually hoping you'd tell me why Han Ching Tan or Li Mao Ching or Zhou Baofu used high kicks in their forms and why it's a bad thing. Because basically you come and say this is not good, which I agree, and then you leave. You either say too much or too few :'(
I only stick to the characteristics of this tradition kung-fu set.. OK?
I cooment strightly for you good sake, not mine. Its nothing smart to raise a problem with other sifus, ok? they're just fine!! Please don't irritate any person.
This is your clip, and this TamTsui is not modern wushu, so please try to restore its characters. If you don't like its low kick but prefer high as that you do, so no need to stay and give friendly comments.
I'm not saying I like or don't like. But you sort of said "there's a problem" and now you're saying "no it's good do it you're way there's no problem". I don't wish to argue or irritate I'm just asking for guidance to find the right path... :-/
well it looks like they kick no higher than the waist. I was never told so :-|
Well it's not a matter of what I like or don't like. If it's not right, I won't like it. I really feel I lack traditional guidance in my training.
I've always heard Yang Jwing Ming saying "kick high to train your legs but in real situation don't kick as high" but then again he changed a bit long fist structure...
Thank you anyway. I won't bother you with further comments or questions.
Thank you 4 understanding my sincerity to point out the mistake. Yes TanTsui is famed of its charactertics of "kick no higher than the waist",
no mater which lineage, 8 or 10 or 12 roads.
Chin Woo Clubs teach closest to the ORIGINAL I feel.
If any infos come to you saying= target is mid-way but training need strike high up, then I CAN ASSURE YOU IT MUST BE WRONG. Comprenez??????? (contiuned next message)
All applications we practise are targeted certain area or position and more senior the vital-Points.
(like what you mention the GROIN) We aim at such same postions during training and make ourselves the INSTRINCT whenever the critical moment come and we can K.O. the attacker~~~
Excellent. People don't understand how hard Tan Tui is. THis is a beginner excercise in Longfist!! It is alot to remember and require much practice. I practice Chang Quan myself. My only recommendation is to work on your flexibility.Get lower in your stances and relax :) You will flow better. Your power will follow. Good job though !!! Bravo. From one Longfist student to another. Good job.
what is the stance in this martial art? is it 50-50 on each foot or 70-30 (like in Tai Chi Yang Family Tiger Style or 100-0? I really like the kicks... I love kicks and knee strikes. I practice Tai Chi Chuan Yang Style myself, too, but the rare Snake Style which is the so called disciple style and was secret. Sounds strange, but it was like that. More information: google issa (international snake style association).
Are there any kind of techniques like Fajin (or fajing, whatever)?
You got so many theories,concepts..........but how come you play the TanTui with "high kick"........
Why don't you search round YouTube and compare?
The characteristic of this set is LOW KICK, my friend~~
I leave this msg as I could not afford to see the Chinese kung-fu diluted to such a crazy stage~~~~If you teach like this I believe the founder of ChinWoo GGM FokYuenGap may come on earth & scold at this non-sense chinese kung-fu!!
My main goal was to show the technical differences with the other schools (see stevenjr videos). I know the whole presentation is sloppy; I know my stances are high and there's no power...
time's not a factor. I've started seven and a half years ago but i've never really been assiduous. So I started about 7 years ago but i havEN'T been practicing for seven years.
the power isn't let out. The arms are connected with ltegs so the structure is not that bad but tis a bit soft. The stances are okay on the beginning but if you look at the 2 last Tan Tui, the Zuo Pan Pu is rather high. But anyway this vid wasn't meant to show off, mostly to show the technical differences there are with the other schools.

@mikevern69
He'd be using the ball of the foot to kick.
As it is strandard to use footwear in Chinese martial arts, in its more northern climate, it is of little importance as to the position of the toes.
MaBu888 1 year ago
@MaBu888 yes i understand that only i wondered if the toes were jutting for a reason like a jut sau in wing chun thank you for your comment.
mikevern69 1 year ago
@mikevern69 Its a groin kick, if you kick with your toes, it will do mutch more damage

darth8freak,
frankly speaking, upon reading your msg
(mostly you msg are in hihg profile), it just make ppl mad~~~~
You present as an EXPERT, but apparently you're a mile away to comment any chinese Kung-fu. You're lesser than a novice.
Start again, brush out all in your mind and find a good sifu and learn, I beg you for the sake of maintaining tradition, and chinese culture!!!!

Very good, indeed.
It would be much better by trying the kick to stay up. (In usage, the legs come back quickly, but in practice, stay in the air as long as possible.)
