  • believe it or not, this setting was picked by the Diocese I work for to impliment over the next 4 years--they picked 4 settings for us to do..I really like this one and plan on teaching it during the summer since it is so catchy and easy for the congregation!

  • beautiful.....God bless....

  • As an accompanist, I play these mass settings for my church. I love how they're cohesive in chord structure, and the chord structures themselves and phrasing are so beautifully crafted. I love to play these. :) I prefer this over Mass of Creation, though Mass of Creation's Lamb of God is quite beautiful.

  • I understand the bitterness. I quit song leading a year ago when the "Church" took away the music I knew and was comfortable playing and singing with harmonies and then tried to ram Latin chants down our throat and eliminate singing songs. The director criticized my song selection and style as NOT REVERENT ENOUGH. They also downsized staff and now my wife is unemployed. The new parish I attend is more open. They used this setting last Sunday. It may grow on me.

  • I have not heard all of the new masses but I stopped listening after this one. It is so easily singable and catchy, you can't go wrong teaching it to your congregation. Everyone should learn the ICEL English chants from the Roman missal at some point but I will rarely if ever use the Glory to God or Credo. Blechhh. I'd rather use Mass of the Angels in Latin any day! Kudos to Schutte! We will be hearing more from our contemporary Catholic composers soon. Can't waito hear from Tom Savoy!

  • Please put this on iTunes, I really want to buy it and just listen to it all day!

    Thanks :)

  • @Code9Pickle you can download it right from here on youTube, probably somewhere on the OCP web page itself as well. OCP sent out CD's to all of their subscribers.

  • The Holy is gorgeous. The melody leading into the "Hosanna in the highest"... omg, it's just so breathtaking. It's so amazingly simple, but it just captures a special place in my heart.

  • Will you make one for "Mass for the City" by Richard Proulx?

  • Well get use-to this Mass. They picked this Mass.

  • Finally something that does not sound crammed or childish. This is truely a masterpiece. It sounds beautiful and is very easy to learn, play and follow. I wish the other muscians would get on board and start getting serious...Thanks Dan Schutte for this mass setting...

  • Our choir started working on this last night. I was surprised to see that it is written in only three parts: SAB. I expect we basses will try to sneak in a fourth part and the baritone line will be taken by the tenors.

  • @olebiker It may be because most Churches are a bit short on male voices in the choir.

  • We've reviewed many of the new Mass Settings and we believe this one will be the easiest for the assembly to learn with the new translations. After 40 years, there must be a reason why Schutte's music continues to be so well recieved.

  • Gad-awful tripe. Let's all buy the world a Coke while we're at it.

  • @macbethderham And just what would you suggest as a better option?

  • @macbethderham I'm sure you would have us doing something that only trained musicians can sing... forget about assembly participation. Believe it or not, not all Catholic churches have choirs. Which new mass setting do you prefer? or perhaps you just don't care for Schutte?

  • Great mass to learn as a first one everyone can do it - choir, music group, folk group, youth group, means for big occasions to begin with everyone will know it, it's also catchy enough for congregations

  • Music sounds good but all the mass parts start to sound the same after a while.

  • @MixtureBoy good, maybe someone in the congregation will actually sing them.

  • This catchy and not too flashy or rock-n-rolly. Of the modern music settings posted here, this one might be able to cross the generations better than most.

  • Why does the Lamb of God sound so familiar? I keep thinking that the melody (especially at the start when not accompanied by words) resembles some hymn. Anyone know which one? Or am I going crazy?

  • This obviuosly will appeal to those who like Dan Schutte already...I suggest Scott Soper's Mass of Awakening if you want a break from Bro Dan

  • Very nice! Sounds like something that congregations can easily sing and at the same time very dignified.

  • Don't care for this one at all. Not transcendent, and far from the new chant in the revised missal. It's too "feel good."

  • @homathetes555 Too "Feel Good". God BVless you, mate! The best laugh I've had for a while.

"Not transcendent"...stop it, you're killing me!!

  • @homathetes555 yes, by all means. Church music should be difficult and painful and always in a minor key. It should never be uplifting, or a catchy tune that you might find yourself singing in the shower. It should never be tuneful enough for the average person to sing; one must be musically trained and attend choir rehearsals. Yeh, those ICEL English chants are soooo very "transendent" I can't manage to bring myself back.

  • @kempedkemp Wow. That was............wait a minute.....hold on.......wait....OK....It took Church Lady a while to absorb all that bitterness. What on earth is eating you, man?

  • I really like this one too! It's very very similar to God's Promise. I think he did that to cover himself in case most people go with new settings over revised. This is definitely one of my favorites.

  • anyone notice how similar this setting is to the St. Louis Jesuits Mass? of course it cold just be due to the fact that Dan wrote both of them

  • @disneydanny2 Don't forget Mass of God's of God's Promise

  • @disneydanny2 I started playing the St Louis one accidentally... epic fail on my part!

  • INTENSE! DRAMATIC! AWESOME! What more can I say?

  • I LOVE this new mass. Dan Schutte is awesome.
