Sam and Dan Houser took over the Scottish guys company DMA Design and then changed it to Rockstar North. Its up in Scotland and all main GTA games are made there...all portable GTA games are made in Rockstar Leeds...so all GTA games are very much British.

The first university in the world to offer a degree in Computer Game Design specifically was actually in Scotland (Abertay I think). The UK certainly has many exports. If you read SCEA's blog from last year in July (after E3). SCEA have a exclusive agreement with Rockstar Games to make a new franchise for PS3 which will push the console to the limits. We will hopefully find out more at E3 this year.

Is that an agreement they did a while back on the PS2. Because if they make games just for the PS3 they will lose money. No one console can make the money back for the production value of a game. Take Devil may cry for example.

I have missed exclusives because that will show the true potential of what the console can do. It cost a fortune to make games on CD-roms from the beginning but started to be cheaper in the long run. PS2 was already cheap and there was no huge leap compared to PS1.

But you have to remeber the PS2 console base was massive. It was near impossible to lose money except if you released near christmas. The PS3 and XBOX 360 has not taken off yet. That is why GTA is on 360 and PS3 at the same time and the PS3 not before.

At the time when the "exclusive IP" from Rockstar Games comes out for PS3 the install base have grown and Blu-ray have gotten cheaper. I do believe that there are tons of games that will sell PS3's this year compared to the weak 2007. MGS4 is a blockbuster no doubt about it. Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are two killer apps. Little Big Planet is a game that I believe will appeal to the casual market casue of its freedom. But we shall see what they can offer at E3 this year.

I just hope the games are kept to such a high standard like Metal Gear etc. Exclusives is why you buy the consoles over another. I have a 360 but if more game exclusives come out on the PS3 I might be persuaded. Metal Gear for example uses maximum disc space on Blu Ray meaning it is impossible to have on 360.

The reason why this guy's ideas are so brilliant is because he, unlike the presidents of big companies (such as EA who only want money and couldn't give a shit about games), is really interested in the games and puts himself into the world of what he creates. He's also BIG into movies, so that's why the drama and voice acting in the GTA games are state of the art.
