  • Love your tutorials. Very, very helpful, entertaining, and well-organized. Really put me ahead of my own learning curve. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this stuff out there.

  • mined didnt work is this on logic 8..the control click didnt work

  • Can the Mac Mini Run Logic studio ?

and can i sync a mac and pc threw midi ?

  • "Even ninjas screw up" and we learn even more. Great job, as always

  • april 13th! my birthday hahah nice bad hair hahah

  • youre the best, mr youtube ninja

  • Jesus! try not to say "UM" so much! You say it after EVERY sentence! Great info though. Keep it up ... but work on the UM thing ok?

    Richie D.

  • very helpful! i would still love to learn more from you about waveburner (and mainstage to some extent) in the future :) thanks so much!

  • yo Dave,

Where does one choose what editor opens when one press' 'Shift-W'... ?

  • Hey David, just wanted to thank you for all the great vids you've put together, I am a brand new subscriber. Been using Logic for a few months (switched from DP) and your vids are tremendously helpful. I do some composing - spot work, I'll post some work I did for the Golden Arches. I just got NI Komplete so just kinda getting around that, never enough time, you know what I mean. Peace!

  • been following (youtube stalking) you for the last 3 years and i gotta say, ooh, if you were only a woman.. lol.

anyhow, from one ninja to another. THANK YOU.

    ciao!

  • Hey David,

Another awesome video. Thanks so very much for putting your time and energy into those videos.

One somewhat desperate problem I'm having (using Pro 9): I can't get my input signal to route through the internal Logic effects and back out without actually recording the input. For example, if I insert a Logic amp onto a guitar track and play my guitar, I hear the clean guitar, but won't hear the Logic amp. If I record it, however, and play it back, the amp is there.

    Any suggestions?

  • AMAAAAAAAAZING!

  • nice video! really helpful. cheers

  • Hey Dave, greetings from the UK. I love this video, that bit about Soundtrack Pro scripts is very very cool indeed!

I only bought Logic the other month - one thing winds me up - when I select a track, it automatically selects every region on that track, so if I trim one, they all get trimmed! How can I turn that "feature" off? (i'm normally a PT user, still not used

Keep up the good work, you're the only Logic guy I've subscribed to :)

  • uh not sure what happened to the second half of that sentence! "I'm a PT user still not used to Logic's way of audio editing" is what it was supposed to say :)

  • HI Ninja, thank you for the vids, learning lots, quick question, how do I setup Logic to playback through my studio monitors instead of through my audio interface via headphones

  • This is going man - you are the Ninja ....

I never mentioned about having a Impulse Utility and or compressor.

Great new idea of getting deeper into logic studio.

  • Can't wait for the Axiom Pro video! Hurry up plz! :)

  • Yeeeyy! I've missed ya! Nice to see you again! Hope to see some more frequent posts from you in the future. Your videos are always full of tips that are so useful in my daily struggling with Logic since switching from PC and Cubase. So, thanks!!!

  • This stuff in STP et al remains a mystery to me, although I fooled around with some of it (including Waveburner). Quoting Dickens... "More please." Also, thanks for not forgetting about the Axiom Pro demo. Congrats on all the gaming work, btw. Glad to see you back sharing with us poor dumb bastards out here.

  • Nice to see you bro!

  • Hi David, can i ask - how do you spell Peter Steinbock, cannot find much about him online and was intrigued!

Also trip in Apple's Compressor - if you want to convert for example 200 aiff files to mp3's (Batch File Processing) you can do that by setting up an mp3 high quality 'droplet' in which you drop aiffs on to it, there was a great tutorial on this in Furture Music

  • just realised you have done batch processing at the end with soundtrack applescript, you can tell I hadn't got that far into your tutorial!

  • @Natashadoingit Peter Steinbach. Oh, and I have several imdb pages and no info up there. In some areas, I truly am lazy. :-)

  • Don't wanna be picky but Soundtrack Pro is actually version 3 now....Waveburner is outstanding! - yes I master my own stuff :-)

Cool to see that you are into gamemusic . great gigs!

  • Whoa - that Soundtrack Pro tip is awesome. I might start to use it now.... oh and Ninja's never make mistakes....

  • Very cool vid. I've always wanted to get into STP but never got around to it. - it looks great.

  • Finally!!!!!!

  • BHD (bad hair day :D)

  • Ok, so like, how were you able to upload a 14:56 min video ?? I get told to make it 10 min. long !! Grrrrr :D Hope you B well.... SKIPPY.

  • @thepluginguru Hey SKIPPY! Yeah, I became a partner, so I can upload videos over 10min long. I'm still gonna try to keep 'em short and sweet, (long tutorials have diminishing returns), but now I don't have to hack them in half when they are too long! Take good care, buddy. *bows*

  • You have done it again, Sensei! Thanks as always.

  • awesome tips as usual thanks !

  • appreciate the new video!!!

  • your video's are always very easy to follow ! thanx Hey did you get married yet ? if you did congrats ! BTW I am Flipjunkie1 .......or you can call me Aaron Wayne ...... i really dont care ! LOL

  • AWESOME. did you get married yet ? congrats if you did . Thank you for teaching almost everything i have learned in logic !

  • I love your verbal introduction! Its awesome!

  • batch processing sure but this is also tantamount to *pre mastering* or perhaps a form of mastering. I Love Massey TH for drums...that was a good free plug in plug.....plug.

  • thanks dave... really cool stuff man. keep in touch!

  • Great clip! thanks for the knowledge!

  • CONGRATS ON HALO!

  • Greeat video. Didn't know there was so many hidden cool things in logic studio! The impulse response programme looks awesome!

  • HEY THE NINJAS BAK WAT TA.

  • hey - I'm starting to do my own youtube videos and am working on my workflow for getting a live performance of a song onto youtube. What screen cap program do you use?

my username is badhorsie777, if you want to see my channel and what I'm starting to get up. I'd be honored :)

  • Great vid! I have used WaveBurner quite a bit in the past, and is indeed a great program for low-budget mastering. You should do more videos with these other useful programs in the future : )

  • A huge congratulations on your own musical career and a big thanks for keeping in touch with your dedicated following. Respect

  • That impulse response program is friggin' genius! Haven't used it, and probably won't anytime soon, but it's just sounds so friggin' cool.

  • Cool!

Nice to hear from you again :)

    Cheers from Brazil.

  • Yey! The NINJA is back! Great tips! You sure did just give me a big push towards upgrading from LogicStudio 8 to 9! Can't wait for the Axium vid and everything else.

  • wow thats amazing, this will come in incredibly useful... thanks ninja

  • Good to see you back David....excited about that axiom pro :D

  • You really need to check out Quicksilver and clean up that horrendous dock... lol

  • Yay, you're back!

  • i would need to know how to record in mainstage or does it have to be rewired within Logic so that you can record, how will i be able to do that?

  • great vid as always. your knowledge is truly priceless

  • Been ages! Glad to have you back, buddy <3

  • good to hear you again.. great vid and tuto!

  • Great vid... more sound track pro tips would be great! especially pertaining to film scoring. Looking forward to the axiom pro review as well!

  • can you save that soundtrackpro applescript into Services and run a folder through a specific set of efx, through the finder contextual menu?

  • Can you Record from Main Stage into Logic !!!???

  • niicee!!! can't wait for more on logic and co.! keep up the good work!

  • Awesome video David Earl, look forward to what else is to come! :D

  • I was trying to make an a capella in Soundtrack by playing a full song and an inverted version of the instrumental version at the same time. However, it wouldn't let me line up the audio files precisely enough, so there were still a lot of artifacts. Any idea why?

  • Yeah!

Haha nice. Non-destructive "destructive" editing :D

  • Yeah!

Haha nice. Non-destructive "destructive" editing :D

  • Oh, 1 caveat! I use Amadeus Pro to batch convert to mp3 with the LAME codec that ST2 does not support... For some dumb reason! That's the thing that is still slightly annoying...

  • @SFLogicNinja beyond annoying, given it's all there in Logic itself! (well, perhaps not LAME, i'm not sure, but for quick sending of work in progress to clients it doesn't matter too much).

  • @SFLogicNinja Welcome back. WOW you got a lotta programs on that dock Lol

  • This was a really great video. I would love to see more tutorials on other Logic programs.

  • Oh! There is one thing I dislike about STP. If you zoom into a file (like, zoom as far as you can go) while it's playing, the program will most likely crash. :/

Not sure if that's a problem on my end though. I never need to zoom in that far, but I sometimes do it by accident. Oh well, it's still a great program.

  • Thanks for posting Dave. Always nice to catch one of your vids :)

  • I used to use Soundtrack pro off of the final cut studio package for my music.

Then I got logic and forgot about it...

Thank you so much for reminding me of how amazing that program is. It really is the photoshop of audio programs.

and it comes with a spectrograph view that is wonderful for finding and fixing clips, pops, and such...

  • Wow. Never looked into Soundtrack Pro. Didn't even realized how cool it is. Thanks for the video again!

  • Extremely amazatizing hair dew. . . . .

  • just wanted to say thanks so much for all the AWESOME!! tips about logic you post up!! if you dont know about full sail university u should look into it! u could totally be a teacher there if you ever wanted to be... thanks again man

  • dude your the logic suite guru!

  • I tried to use soundtrack as my editor, when i finish a mix i usually want to trim, normalise, export with dither and also export as mp3. This last stage has eluded me in soundtrack, usually ending up as me having to take the trimmed file to audacity to export as mp3, or perhaps dither, i forget which. I could go to logic, but i just dont want to have to flick between 3 programs. tell me i'm being stupid and i've missed something?! Great to have you back.

  • welcome back!

  • That's pretty cool. I've tried using Soundtrack Pro's noise reducer on some voiceover projects, but that's about it. Should probably dig into it a little more.

  • Hey David,

Great vid, it's nice to have the ninja back.

Been doing some pretty thorough research on your previous video: Using IAC to relieve CPU. Worked out how to use soundflower to re-route the audio, which took me flipping ages! There are some vids on youtube that show how to re-route audio using an apogee ensemble - thought you might find it interesting. - can't post link but do a search on YT for 'using ew play as standalone'.

    All the best.

  • Get a comb! :D

  • I thought soundtrack pro was more focused on sound to picture. I just skipped it, I ahve enough with logic :P

  • welcome back...looks like ur a partner now. cool

  • welcome back.

  • What's up David. Nice to see you back. Great video. Hope all is well!

  • Hooray!.. The Ninja's back.. Cheers Mr Earl.. you have been missed

  • thanx

  • THX!!! fir batch processing!

  • UR HAIR!
