  • Good way of seeing what the average rural/town Russian saw, and maybe still sees, are from their own cinema. I've got movies from the former USSR and presentday Russia, and every former satellite country. All the way from the late 40s to the 2010s. Appears to be a great deal of disrepair, at least in the uncommercialized pockets;old infrastructure, old paint, lots of visual delapidation. Stands to reason;there wasn't enough funds for upkeep over the years. Or funds were re-directed is my guess.

  • wtf? wtf? see i can do it too, look mar no caps.

  • "...what western preception of life was like behind the Iron Curtain..". This IS the depiction of what life was like behind the iron curtain. ha ha.

  • No shit Sherlock. Try reading the intro.

  • Your not so much though, i forgot to add. You show some good too.

  • lol why do you make it look like life was bad there? life was great in the CCCP. My family had a great life everyone i knew also had a great life there, even the kids that were poorer loved it there. Always food, always something to do. Everyone knew each other in the neighborhoods, crime was very low. Life in Russia is still great, i love it. Its also very interesting on how you make it look like a shit hole, its not only you, many other people do it too.

  • I don't think any of it looks like a shithole!

  • wait wat? lmao wtong video lol i had 2 windows open watching vids and i commented on this 1 by mistake srry lol

  • @marat79 Do you know of any movies or documentaries that accurately depicts life in in the CCCP? The only one I have been able to find is "The lives of Others", but i'm looking for a something a little less anti-communist.

  • That's very interesting.

Can't say I would like to live there though.

Do you have a rough estimate of the years the clips are from?

  • Only a couple of years ago, although of course the clips I have selected are not representative of how it is now. I chose footage that evoked the past.

  • Damn, that's Latvia in the video! :o I know it cuz I live there. :P

  • They should show this in history classes! I get a kick out of showing this to my friends in the former Warsaw Pact countries!

  • FALL OF THE IRON CURTAIN!

  • Awesome video! The theme music from A Clockwork Orange goes well with this.
