I had both eyes done a few years back, hands down the most painful procedure I have ever had! My vision was horrible and has been perfect ever since. No regrets but I don't recommend doing both eyes at same time.
This was very painful. I had to be completely in the dark for 3 days. I could not see well for 3 months. Now i see great and am glad i had it done. Do 1 eye at a time if possible.
@aagguimaraes This is PRK. Were it LASIK, they would not scrape away the flap. they would cut a circle in it and lift it up. I prefer PRK. It takes a little longer to heal, but once it's healed, it's great and has lower risk of messing up later.
The only way I could watch that the entire way through was with the music. I want to get prk soon. so tired of dents on my nose and trying to find my glasses in the morning. Thanks for the post.
i have a question for those of you who have gotten this surgery, my vision is bad and i cant see well and i am kinda interested in getting this eye surgery done. well back to my question, a co-worker of mine told me that if a person is still going to school, such as doing lots of reading, it isnt recommended. is it true? im still in school, i do alot of reading . please answer my question u guys! and how can i find a good optometrist for this surgery?
well i guess it would depends on if u get lasik or PRK. i got prk and i had to stay home for 5 days with my eyes closed but it was so worth it because i now have perfect vision. i went to a optometrist in manhatten on park ave. dr niksarli
I have asked the same question to my doctor. She said that continuous work on computer or reading would create fatigue in the eyes and appear that eyesight is worsening. i pray things will work out by the time i reach the year mark but right now i wish i never had the surgery.
anyones eyes improve between the 8-12 month mark or beyond?
I am 9 mouths post op prk. I am still unable to drive and work b/c of severe dryness, ghosting and halos. I pray every day this will get better. I really dont know anymore. good luck.
You should buy those preservative free eye drops. And use them once every couple of hours. I had PRK done last year and I had really bad dry eye. My doctor told me to keep using the drops and it's worked. I almost never use the drops anymore.
I just had PRK done, and I wanted to see exactly what had gone down during the procedure (since I had originally gone in for LASIK, but my eyes are too deep so I didn't actually have detailed description of what was going to happen. Wow...I'm glad I didn't know the details. Was it as painful for you as it was for me, the healing process I mean?
I don't have any starbursts. I have always been susceptible to glare, that's all. But it doesn't bother me that much. My vision has improved even at night. Some say that colors and details at night are of less quality after their operation, but mine got better. But it all depends on the person. As stated below by mcnabj, he had different results. It really depends on the doctor and your tests. Have refractive screening first to see if you may experience problems. Goodluck!
yes i have starbursts in both eyes. The right eye is the dryer of the two and is worse, Ghosting is also a problem. I am into my sixth month since prk. Don't get prk if you have any symptoms of dry eye before.
I got prk 5 months ago. It has caused severe dry eye problems. SEVERE> I have halos and star bursts at night and cant drive now. My vision is 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. Dont get prk.
After 11 months since my last message here, I've finnally done it :D
Did it like 3 weeks ago and everything is going fine, I still have to put some eyedrops 4 times a day but it's ok.
It happens exactly like it has been said, right after the operation you see quite well with no discomfort, then 2 days of pain, and after that you have a blurry vision that gets better every day, after a week you see almost perfectly.
Then yesterday (day 3 after the operation) the pain went away. There was a little sting from time to time but it was nothing compared to the previous two days. There was still extreme light sensitivity so I couldn't open my eyes well. Then when I woke up this morning there was no more pain. My eyes were still kind of blurry but that was part of the healing process. Just keep on following your medication because that's your best bet at this point to obtain 20/20 vision or better!
Had this PRK done 5 days ago. The procedure was painless. No need to be worried. After I went home there was no pain. The next day there was light sensitivity and I was confident that I have already healed. When I got home almost exactly 24 hours after the operation my eye started to feel a burning sensation. I felt like I had salt in my eyes. And I couldn't open them because of extreme light sensitivity (even just a little light). I just followed my medication for 2 painful days. Be prepared!
I had this procedure done 5 days ago, it does not hurt AT ALL during the surgery. Just be prepare to have 3-4 days of terrible pain (controlled by Percocet!). Wore glasses since age 6 and i'm 26 now and almost 20/20 after 5 days! Looking forward to more improvements over the following days!
the first 3-4 days my eyes hurt bad, had a lot of haze/halo, but soon after that everything cleared up. At night when I'm tired sometimes i have starbursts/some halo effects, but that is supposed to go away completely by month 3. It's one of the best things I've done now that the discomfort is over
just had prk done on the 15th and im seeing better everyday its been 2 days and i can alredy see things id never see with out my glasses just rocking shades from here on out
I had PRK yesterday in Athens, It is not painfull at all. Today I feel like I have a litlle piece of dust in my right eye but it goes better and better. I use eye drops almost every 30 minutes. I can see but not very well because I wear healing contact lenses. My doctor will remove them in two days from now. It cost me 2000 euros
I had PRK a year and a half ago. I have come out of it with 20/20 acuity in both eyes however I did retain some moderate star-bursting/haloing from the procedure which makes night-time driving a nuisance in cities at times. A small price to pay I guess for such amazing vision change, considering the top 'E' on the eye-chart was blurry for me before.
Hello everybody, yesterday i have had this surgery operation, i was so scared before... but i swear that i have felt ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!! only 4 minutes per eye and that's all i was so happy that i have had a crazy laugh :D :D :D and now i can see clearllllly whithout my ***** glasses :D
PS: i'm from casablanca (Morocco) and the price of the opération for the two eyes is 5000 dirham (426 Euro)
do the doctors ask if you want ur surgery recorded or do you do it yourself? there seems to be quite a few videos of peoples laser eye surgery on YouTube!
I also did the PRK a few days ago.. Even when I see the video I think it's weird to watch, but also I recommend it. Surgery didn't hurt only the day after was bad for me.. not really the hurting but my eyes just couldn't stand the light.. Now I see almost perfect, just a few more days of healing..
and defenately true, be very very very careful which doctor you decide to do the surgery with!!!!!!!
Oh my yes. Ever poke yourself in the eye? Your corneas are extremely sensitive to any sort of foreign insult, be it sand, a finger, of a knife that removes the outer layer followed by a laser that takes off a bit of the middle layer. With the anesthesia though, it is supposed to be a completely painless process.
Great video... I just had PRK yesterday afternoon. My eyes felt a little scratchy last night but this morning I feel great... My vision is about 90% right now. Some things are a little out of focus which I was told will heal over the next few days.
The whole thing only lasts about 2-3 minutes per eye, and my eye did get dried out, especially with the lazers and all. They flushed out my eyes with water at the end and that felt really really good.
I had PRK surgery in Austin, November 1999 in my right eye! The recovery time was a bit longer but the final outcome was well worth it. I have referred several family members. I think I was lucky because Dr. Howerton took the time to help manage the discomfort that was anticipated.
I'm thinking on doing this... and just like in your case my cornea is too thin for LASIK so it's not like I had the choice.
My fears are really the risks... infections and inflammation since the cornea is transparent any slightest problem will affect your vision... the doctor also explained me about the contact lenses you have to wear after the operation for xx hours, the antibiotics and other stuff you have to put on your eye to protect it but even soo it's not an easy decision...
It's not an easy decision. It has worked well for me, though. All the drops and recovery time have been well worth it for me, but I guess it's up to each person to decide. Good luck to you.
Yes I did it ,check the comments I replied 2 months, for me it was 2 days of pain, a couple months of eye drops (like every 4h) but now I just put some from time to time mostly when I play computer games or read on the pc screen, my eye become a bit dry when I remain focused for a long time.
Overall it's great, I used to hate rain cause of the glasses and now it's almost a pleasure to get wet ;)
Are you talking about the metal thing at the beginning? If so, those are kind of like tongs that hold the eye open. Except instead of squeezing them together to pick things up, they squeeze them together to put them into the eye. When they let go, it holds the eye open. My eye was numb during it, so I couldn't feel it.
I've never noticed that before. I think the white thing is to clean out any particles that may be left in the eye after the lazer is used. I'm not sure why it expands. I guess that would be a question for an optomologist.
It has healed back. My surgery was about a year and a half ago. Full healing is supposed to be after 2 years, but I haven't had any problems at all with it.
i had it done before christmas. my vision was ok the next day. the day after it was HORRIBLE! i was kinda scared. the next day it improved dramatically. I kept noticing improvements every day for 2 weeks. nearly 3 months later, my vision is amazing. it's slower than lasik, but better in the long run. GET PRK IF YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE SURGERY!
I'm about to pay for this and hopefully have it done soon enough. I'm having the No Touch procedure, thank God, since watching that thing scraping in the eye...agh...
But this video is actually a bit of a comfort...largely thanks to the song choice! If it had been Snowblind or something, well...
I am now five days post surgery. I can certainly see things I have not been able to see without glasses before but some things still hazy in the distance. I meet with the doc tomorrow so we'll determine the final analysis. Whoever originally posted this, I watched this before my surgery and I had this song stuck in my head all throughout, guess it gave me something else to think about.
Glad to give you something else to think about. My eyes were pretty hazy for about a week after. I see very well now, though. I hope it turns out well for you.
awesome. super quick. very little discomfort. vision is just very slightly fuzzy (no problems driving, watching tv, etc.). i have an appt in a few weeks to find out if it's a true prescription that needs to be tweaked. no big deal, esp. since i get free "adjustments" for life.
The end visual results are the same, or even better with PRK. It jsut takes longer to get them adn there is a little more pain the days following PRK.
I can now see even better than I did with contacts before. I'm 20/20 in my right eye and 20/25 in my left. My contact prescription before was -10. It was totally worth it.
I think the halos are caused by the flap created in LASIK. I don't get halos. While I was recovering at first, I had really dry eyes. I used drops almost 24/7, but now, I haven't put drops in my eyes in at least 4 months. They don't get dry now. Oh, there's no haze, either. They work very well.
Funny thing, because it was my eye and the people who did the surgery told me that I didn't qualify for LASIK (not LASEK) because my cornea was too thin, so they had to do PRK instead. It's quite similar to LASIK, but...well, that's in my description. Have a good one.

I have asked the same question to my doctor. She said that continuous work on computer or reading would create fatigue in the eyes and appear that eyesight is worsening. However, that is not the case as with 15-30 days of rest, eyesight will improve and get back to it's original shape (it's true, I tried it). So, if you study a lot, your eyes will get fatigued regardless of whether you had laser surgery or still wear glasses. It also happens to people who never had problems with eyesight.

Why does that thing get bigger? when he put the thing in the persons eye y did it expand? please reply...thanks.

Are you talking about the metal thing at the beginning? If so, those are kind of like tongs that hold the eye open. Except instead of squeezing them together to pick things up, they squeeze them together to put them into the eye. When they let go, it holds the eye open. My eye was numb during it, so I couldn't feel it.

im talking about that white thing...
iPikee 3 years ago
I've never noticed that before. I think the white thing is to clean out any particles that may be left in the eye after the lazer is used. I'm not sure why it expands. I guess that would be a question for an optomologist.

I've heard that this is much better than Lasik. Does the part they melt away heal back? It's supposed to, isn't it? :P
bubbah 4 years ago
It has healed back. My surgery was about a year and a half ago. Full healing is supposed to be after 2 years, but I haven't had any problems at all with it.

is it painfull and are there many risks?

i had it done before christmas. my vision was ok the next day. the day after it was HORRIBLE! i was kinda scared. the next day it improved dramatically.

I hope it turns out well for you.

i might be getting this if i join the military or even if i cant..heh

I won Laser vison correction for FREE. My PRK would have cost $4,200!!

how did the surgery go?
jeffwads 4 years ago
awesome. super quick. very little discomfort. vision is just very slightly fuzzy (no problems driving, watching tv, etc.). i have an appt in a few weeks to find out if it's a true prescription that needs to be tweaked. no big deal, esp. since i get free "adjustments" for life.

did it feel weird andd look weird with people touching your eye ??
twokn 4 years ago
it did, but it was totally worth it.
danley456 4 years ago
do you think LASIK is more effective ?
Tralivali89 4 years ago
The end visual results are the same, or even better with PRK. It jsut takes longer to get them adn there is a little more pain the days following PRK.
sweaty1 4 years ago
i would rather have this than lasik
KageOukami 4 years ago
I can now see even better than I did with contacts before. I'm 20/20 in my right eye and 20/25 in my left. My contact prescription before was -10. It was totally worth it.

do you have halos/haze/dry eyes...?
castrolis 4 years ago
I think the halos are caused by the flap created in LASIK. I don't get halos. While I was recovering at first, I had really dry eyes. I used drops almost 24/7, but now, I haven't put drops in my eyes in at least 4 months. They don't get dry now. Oh, there's no haze, either. They work very well.
danley456 4 years ago
your eye was not likign tht, looks better then the flap method. still not sure weather to get it done tho. hows ur vision now?
collinschickens 4 years ago
Funny thing, because it was my eye and the people who did the surgery told me that I didn't qualify for LASIK (not LASEK) because my cornea was too thin, so they had to do PRK instead. It's quite similar to LASIK, but...well, that's in my description. Have a good one.
danley456 4 years ago
you have beautiful eyes......but in this video your flap was cut so the strength of the anterior and interior cornea loses it up to 37%
luhh666 4 years ago
It wasn't cut, AFAIK. It was... eh, "melted away".
