I used to help my Dad in the cinema as a teenager and I remember screening this movie for a weeklong stretch. I used to crap myself laughing evey time I saw this bit, couldn't wait for this part. Years later I bought the DVD and then had the luxury of watching Toad crash the scooter whenever I wanted to and could even analyse it frame by frame. I still get a chuckle out of poor Toad's misfortune.
You can tell that Charles Martin Smith was going to let it go as if they were going to do another take, but Ron Howard just keeps his cool and George Lucas just goes with it, thus adding to the character of the awkward Toad.
Terrific, an American classic that deserves more recognition.
the movie really captured an era. pretty awesome times.

It wasn't scripted in the movie but they went along with it. I know where those places at. I live few minutes away from it.
