  • A nice guy on a nice gear! I am always satisfied with his demonstration, good job Kats!

  • Banzai Prophet V!

  • We love him

  • I've watched the firts 10 or so seconds of every video, just to hear him read out the name of the synths

  • @GetenRalf PROHFETOH FAIWU

  • @GetenRalf hahahah, i start doing the same !! Thanks ! Its great !!

  • Odds of Lebron James winning NBA Championship 0 !

  • i want this guy to play the prophet by next to me the day i'll lose my virginity

  • This guy is the shit

  • That's how you demonstrate a synth! Well done :-)

  • 8:19 - 8:35 Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon! I was like :o

  • @lemonzawodowiec i was like =D

  • I just bought this synth online, will they ship the Japanese guy with it?

  • @ 3:06....does it sound like the Prophet held a stuck note...and then...at 3:08 He slapped the keyboard to shut it down?

  • @1980sCoverband That's normal...what he did was have the P5 hold a note until the next key was pressed, and then he cleared that patch. Source: I have a P10.

  • @nocturn07 He doesn't change patches to clear the stuck note. After he realizes a note has been stuck, he plays a random two notes and the stuck note clears; then he reaches up and changes the patch. Re-reading your comment, please clarify how a note on a P-10 can hold a note and then be told to cutoff (stop playing) when the next key is pressed...without changing patches? What if the next key pressed was intended to be a note that needed to be heard? Source: I have P-5 Rev. 3.3.

  • Is that the "brown noise" at ~7:47? ;-)

  • 8:13 head bobbin' lol

  • For erections lasting more than 4 hours, see a Doctor!!!!

  • @TurcoDon HAHA, I would also love to have this guy as my life tour guide. He just constantly tries to show you stuff all the time you never understand him.

  • This guy is awsome!

  • profettofivuh...

  • Fantastic synth, and great, comprehensive demo

  • 8:18 reminds me of Welcome to the Machine

  • Oshi ney?

  • Damn, that guy can play anything with a heartful feel !! I love how each of the sounds he plays receive a special vibe particularly fitting with the style of the preset.

  • lol

  • Yeah, some good oscilletta!

  • The only word I understood was 'modulation'

  • This is a wonderful demo, especially refreshing to watch after dreaming last night I had a Prophet 5 myself! >__<

    What model is yours, Rev 2, Rev 3, Rev 3.2, &c. ? MIDI/no MIDI ?

    Arigato! orz

  • Who wants midi if you can take the Japanese guy home???

  • Freaking Japanese, cool and nice!

    Keep going!

  • 5:25-5:38 Reminds me of Super Mario Kart, doesn't it?

  • I used to have a Juno 106. The damn thing taught me the basics of analogue synthesis. Im an ass for selling it. With something like this in hand, you don't need what the companies are making today. Everythings going back to the basics, and TRUE analogue kicks ass....

  • 愛しています

    好きだ

  • neh? what the heck? stop talking nippon boy and play the damn thimg

  • I don't know what this guy is saying....But he gives a great demo of the prophet 5!!!

  • What lucky guy you are musictrackjp guy..getting play all these great classic synths..i want your job..i must learn japanese...lol

  • @TheSYNTHOID reason can emulate analog synths good too ( though I know mostly everyone will disagree).definitely Reaktor 5 can..Reaktor 5 can do stuff these vintage synths can't..I love these big warm vintage beasts though and i want one..never used arturia..what about the new dave smith Prophet 08's i wonder how those compare?

  • really good demo, language is no barrier even though i dont speak japanese.

  • 素晴らしい!

    私も愛用しています。

  • @Paardekut True! :D

  • toto synth?

  • @bravoumbus

Maybe, but I know they were big on the CS-80. I think a lot of Toto's synth work was CS-80 You can see it in the video for "Rosanna". That's what he's playing at 1:29.

On the other hand, you can see Hideki Matsutake demoing the Oberheim Matrix 12 as well, playing a brass patch and soloing a lick very reminiscent of the brass line in "Africa". The tone is incredibly similar.

  • I like every post mzamp makes. Prophets are the best.

  • marantzamp is right but my rev2 would make his rev 3 sound like a toy. Also, a p5 is only as good as the level of it's calibration. I could take any given p5 and show you how badly it need to see a tech.

  • This sound reminds me of american 80's cop movies..

  • Hi,is there anyway I can get the data from this synth loaded onto tape for my prophet? I especially like the OB/Roland brass stabs and haven't been able to program the results to sound like yours. I got it in my oberheim and roland but can't get it to sound like that in the prophet!

    Best Regards...

  • 5:05 He is at home :) He's favorite music scale

  • Domo! Thank you!

  • kinda churchish xd

  • Japanischer Altmeister ! :)

  • @ 8:00 is the gong sound preset used extensively by Gary Numan circa 1981-82 and @ 8:18 Numan also used this on "She's Got Claws"

  • This guy is SO inspirational. Much like the Japanese people. I just wana pick up my synth now!

  • This is by far the best Prophet 5 demo I have come across on YouTube, and the irony here is that I only know a few key Japanese words and phases. I have learned more from this man's patience in walking us through this machine, and by his expressive gesturing and enthusiasm.

Thank you very much! Domo arigato gozai masu!

  • it's nice to see someone playing this great analog synth :)

  • intiandas totemo little japenese

  • Oi tunga joell a charoo ya foo Prophet 5. Jingwa ooh jagwa Rick Wakeman tingpoo japanny wanny wing pong Kraftwerk sandwich. Jing wakaa wing ding wallo shug a boog Emerson, Lake & Palmer toothpaste. Abra sarpo jingwa boog a ching dong tomato soup.

  • Why did you put a Prophet V in your mothers dog?

  • This was the first analog synth on the market to have computer control.

  • And what you 'new' hardware morons don't understand is that synthesis is synthesis, no matter how you wrap it up in so called new technology.

You are all subject to marketing tripe from companies who are sending consumers on a chase for the ultimate synth.

Once you realise this and learn advanced synthesis techniques, you'll realise when it comes to music and synths, its about personality not complexity.

There are some instances of decent vsts, but they are mostly garbage.

  • And Btw... god synth ... especially for porn groove producers

  • wow...you sound like a 15 year old moron.

since your mother made lots of porn, you should know about it.

  • to bad analogs dont have a tube shape otherwise analog adherents will turn out gay...

  • For my ears, a Prophet-08 sounds not near as good as an old Prophet-5 - I checked it out carefully.

  • thats because most analog synths/other instruments like guitar, violins etc have the handy ability to sound BETTER with age, and not worse. The Prophet 08 will get there, and with its tons of extra abilities you are in synth heaven.

  • It's true, that an older violin sounds better that a new one. But a Prophet-5 does not sound better today than 1978 :-) With synths, it's a complete different thing...

you can't compare violins / guitars with electronic instruments.

  • then why do modern analog synths fail to sound as warm as the retro ones? Ive heard time and time again even aging of their components can add this characteristic, adding warmth and natural distortion. It might be a debate, but modern vs retro synths sound nothing like eachother, and that often favor the Retro ones, and theres a heavy market to get a hold of these.

  • I think, there are several reasons. 1) old components are not so clean and exact, 2) today a analog synthesizer must be cheap and affordable to have a chance against software.

And it's not always the case, that old analog synths sound better than todays. A Macbeth for example, sounds excellent.

  • Exactly. Not clean and exact. Isnt that what we hate about the digital realm?

Not saying modern analog does not sound absolutely fabulous, but synths age in their own way as compared to its wooden guitar friends, and it sounds alright to me.;)

  • I am terribly sorry for expressing my opinion and even more sorry that I find these sounds dated. Next time I will ask for your permission.

No, I am not into trendy/annoying trance or drum n' bass music.

  • sounds never date...only people date

  • Ummm... I think that these sound are awfully dated. It would be nice to play something more modern.

    Very cool synth, though.

  • those are the factory presets from 1978...

  • lol waht a fuckin faggot

  • are you out of your mind?

Great sounds and great instruments NEVER date.

you are probably into trendy/annoying trance or drum N bass music i'd bet.

  • yeah..exactly...

And analog fagotts go fuck yourself and go masturbate in front of your antiques and other jarre michele jarre fan yunk ... but dont expect u produce something good.

  • good sound never date, only people's EARS date.

  • I think it was the Yamaha CS-80,, I'v seen them use the CS-80 alot, not unless they had a prophet in the recording studio.

  • "POLY--MOJULATION" LOL

  • Does anyone know the first preset he was playing in!!!!!? I really need to know because it sounds like Bette Davis Eyes

  • whaty a great guy, so explorative of him to explain through sound, he cant help himself!

  • No way will the new version of this synth ever come close to this gorgeous sounding original.

What an amazing synth and still sounding good after all those years. Very nice demonstration!

  • It also Depends What version P5 comairing to. A Rev1 Rev2 Or a Rev 3. The P08 is close to a Rev3 and had the opportunity to hear them side by side. I had brought My rev3 P5 Just to hear them both with out any eq enhancement, And it comes close,, I mean Realy close cause they both use the curtis chip. I was shocked. P5 will always have there own sound. I agree tho it sounds too good.

  • New version of this synth? You mean Prophet 08? Ask Dave Smith, it was never the idea to replicate the "original" Prophet 5, make "a new version" of it.

Prophet 08 is A Prophet, not THE Prophet 5 replica, it just wasn't designed to be one, but was designed to be completely new, great sounding, reliable, versatile and relatively affordable analog synth - I think Dave has succeeded on all counts.

I would like to own P5 one day, but for now I think P08 will be much more useful for the money.

  • Indeed PMF yeah wasn't intended to be a P5 but that prophet caracteristict to it. I just love almost everything that Dave makes. Not a Prophet Vs fan but very different at that time.

  • Yeah I agree, I love to see him on the Propheto Eighto. Even tho I'v programmed some of the sound and its fat, but never heard anyone unleash its sound on youtube. On the dave smith sight, he has the origional Prophet 5presets for the Prophet 08 and its too identical. Like having a small P-5.

  • Yeah The great synth prophet. Can't go wrong. Own a rev 3.3 and its just a charmer. Never get rid of it. It has its uniqe sound and Its just Fat for a poly an mono Synth

  • Some of the sounds that I have heard during this demo, I have them on my Andromeda!

Still a classic synth! Wouldn't mind having one!

  • oyeahh !!!! that andromeda aint no joke!!!

  • that guys awesome

  • uuuuuuh what a lucky man he was ^^ lol !!!

seriously i need the new version of this keyboard avaible in Dave Smith Instrument.

  • Propheto Fivevo! :D

  • excellent video

  • :( sigh... only need $3000 more to own one

  • Very good! The japanese acutually makes the presentation more interesting.

  • I really love your demonstrations. Despite speaking NO Japanese, the visuals are always clear and you do have a great vibe in your presentations!

  • It's the perfect prophet 5 video! It really shows the character of this beast. Although I don't know any Japanese I understand every word ;-)

  • Banzai Prophet 5!

  • Best demonstration on the internet. Nothing like a Japanese man playing a fine American keyboard! Soon I'll be posting a demonstration comparing the Prophet 08' Prophet 5 and Prophet 600.

  • Great Demo. I have a question Music Track, What revision Prohet is the one on this Demo. I have a rev 3.3 And I just cant seem to replicate that brass patch at the very beginning. wonder if its because mine has the Curtis chips.

  • heh guys youre trippin':) this is a Rev3 prophet, Curtis chips. and sounds like it too.

comparing a friend's Rev3, to my Rev2, "agressive, dry, ripping" comes to mind, whereas SSM is more liquidy, organic. there are differences, but i'd never call a Curtis prophet "thin".

btw, you can always tell the revisions by the arrangement of knobs in the filter section. Rev3 has them uniform in columns, Rev1&2 in zig-zag formation.

great demo, musictrackjp. great playin too.

  • Thank you!! its so easy to now its a curtis rev 3, cause of the cassette section, volume knob placement, minus the grey preset buttons that was on the Rev 1 Rev2 and the Manual cut Prophet 10 rev1. I thought that P-10 cut was interesting. I see why the had to convert the P10 in a bigger case and dual keys. I like the fact that the rev 1 P10s look like the P-5 rev 1 but unreleiable.

  • stunning sound from the prophet 5. it has so much life and presence.

  • 8:18 is the preset used by gary Numan in his song "She's Got Claws"

  • awesome Prophet-5

    great demo
