En todo caso, no lo dije precisamente por Yma Sumac, si no por otros; es que su voz tan potente me lo trajo a colación. Pero de que está olvidada, lo está. Hay otros que parecen ser eternos: Carlos Gardel, por ejemplo; y eso que su voz llegaba hasta por ahí no más, en cuanto a registro. Todo sea dicho, con mucho respeto.

@MultiSarcastica Sí que está olvidada, absolutamente; pues, tener mucha voz no es, necesariamente, garantía de ser un gran cantante; para ello también requiere tener un timbre agradable, colorido, y saber matizar adecuadamente, y por sobre todo "frasear", esto es, enriquecer la melodía, para satisfacción del compositor..., en fin, entre otras condiciones. Pero esta opinión mía, y que no es más que eso, se va al traste, por aquello de "es cuestión de gustos"; no por nada "Ricardito" vendió tanto.
Estoy de acuerdo, una gran voz no hace a un gran cantante, una gran técnica tampoco, lastimosamente hoy en día hay otros factores que influyen y mucho.
Como sea, para mí ella fue una gran cantante, posiblemente la mejor del mundo, aunque el mundo no lo sepa y aunque ella no haya cantado todo lo que pudo haber cantado. Lo que nadie puede negar es que cantó o que muchos nunca han oído en otra persona, lo que la hace única y eso es algo MUY grande.

Mis respetos para esta señora, si escuchan a un que su voz no alcanze las maximas octavas altas actualmente ya alcansadas, ella no tiene la necesidad de usar falsete INCLUSO REGISTRO DE SILBIDO para alcanzar notas muy altas, pues ella usa voz NORMAL simplemente la hace aguda sin ningun tipo de tecnica y es sorprendente por que ES MUY dificil alcanzar el tipo de notas que ella canta ahi sin registro de silbido, simplemente espectacular.

I have always found Sumac both fascinating and irritating to listen to. The vocal range is phenomenal but she does not sing any music that has any real meaning. She makes interesting sounds with a voice that is extraordinary. But I have never heard her sing any traditional music or a conventional song.I have onlyonly heard her making sounds and doing vocalises. This gets dull after awhile. Vocal pyrotechnics that go nowhere but to the ear and leave the hearrt and brain wanting for more.

I would love to hear her sing the Queen of the Night Aria from Mozart's Magic Flute. It has a high F6 which is nearly impossible to hit, but I think she could belt it out with no problem.
In May of 2006, Yma Sumac returned to Peru after many years, to accept several prestigious awards. The biggest being "El Orden Del Sol", usually only awarded to royalty and dignataries and certain presidents. It was a two week trip of constant appearance, hysterical crowds and cameras at all times.

bellisima yma sumac ella es perfecta, es completamente bellisima es una Diosa y es peruana se le nota en sus rasgos mongoloides que tiene con los ojos achinados y esos pomulos sobresalientes y la barbilla pequeña y pronunciada aunque es mestiza es todo un orgullo para peru

I would love to hear her sing the Queen of the Night Aria from Mozart's Magic Flute. It has a high F6 which is nearly impossible to hit, but I think she could belt it out with no problem.

In May of 2006, Yma Sumac returned to Peru after many years, to accept several prestigious awards. The biggest being "El Orden Del Sol", usually only awarded to royalty and dignataries and certain presidents. It was a two week trip of constant appearance, hysterical crowds and cameras at all times.

@wsalinas1 Para el año 2000 y hasta la actualidad existen muchos artículos publicados sobre Yma Sumac, especialmente en la Internet, donde cuenta con dos páginas Web y sus discos siguen siendo vendidos en compilaciones de diversos países a nivel mundial. Ella aún se mantiene en actividad a pesar de sus años.
Yma Sumac falleció en Los Angeles Noviembre 1 del 2008. Por su propia voluntad, ella fue enterrada en Hollywood California, donde ella vivió sus ultimos 60 años de su vida. BELLA INCA

Que triste tanta descalificacion, claramente tenia un gran don, yo la conosco de hace muy poco, claramente no existian tantos medios como para masificar tanto, claramente es peruana por el nombre, al menos para mi lo es, aunque viviera siempre en USA por lo menos tenia ese nombre, una maravilla, y por favor dejense de pelear por tonteras, por nacionalidades?!!!, eso ya es del pasado, demostremos grandesa!!!

I heard her once in the 1960's on the radio. All of these years I have wondered who she is, that is how much her voice impressed me. I found her today after almost 50 years of wondering who was that voice. Esa canta como un angel, que voz divina.

I grew up to her music back in the 50's. She has one song involving Inti, the Sun God, and I have a cat named after her. Her voice is still unrivaled. I'm saddened, to hear she passed on.
