  • I really want to go throw after watching this but it's dark out!

  • Ok, I've had several people tell me different areas to put my thumb for more distance, but i dont notice much of a difference in the placements. any tips?

  • You need to turn this cheek towards your target. See how my butt is?:)

  • 10 people are Innova Disc lovers.

  • 12:00 - 12:27 were probably the best 27 seconds of my life

  • Hey sportdisc I really enjoy watching your videos they are always helpful. Is there anyway that you can put up a video of someone explaining how to throw an understable, overstable and stable disc? In this video the pro talks about changing his throw depending on the disc, I was just wondering if he could explain how and what he changes when throwing an understable vs an overstable disc. Thanks for reading

  • from 2:40 to 3:40 is complete bs... I throw with that grip and like that sometimes depending on the shot and I can throw a 500ft hyzer on command. Coda hatfield throws like that and thats who I got it from. Coda can throw 650+ so i disagree

  • @osw330904 I agree the part about keeping the fingers right alongside the rim is somewhat bs it might create some drag but probably not that much. The part that is real bs is the fact that Matt states his avg drive is 350 and when he does a couple drives then the instructor goes "that's 75ft you gained buddy you gained", even though he drove like 310, and maybe a 330 after that. That's a loss of several ft, not a gain.

  • @MrSoapbox29 theyre throwing up hill though as well....when he said 350 he was talking about flatland

  • MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

  • Well I believe that a fan grip is the way to go... Also what I call the mirror effect... your non throwing arm should "mirror" your throwing arm.. When you reach back try to point at the basket with your non throwing arm... Then drop your non throwing arm shoulder swing the nt arm down and power through.... This creates a huge momentum gain which in turn creates spin and speed... I throw 600+ in FL at sea level. I have won many state and world distance competitions...

  • Nice Video!

  • A decent clip, I felt it was very informative... hahah but the ending almost had me fall out my seat it was sooooo Jokie!

  • how do you throw up hill BH and FH?

of course anheizer but some people need an example discraft show me how.

  • He should have told that 3rd guy to be more fluid in his backswing....and not to hesitate so much at the start of his wind-up. All the things he said were good but if you are throwing a stable or overstable disc, which are MOST of the discs out there, you do NOT put your shoulders over the disc like you do for an understable, "flippy" disc. If you do, then you will throw a big ass 250 foot hyzer instead of a nice 400 foot slight S curve with a sweet fade

  • I learned a lot from this video. I need to change my grip up, so we will see if this helps me at all.

  • discgolfgod03, 450" is only, like, 37'! Just kiddin' bro, I wish I could throw that far.

  • Disc golf started in the 70's. I can't wait for winter to be gone so that I can get out and try these techniques. I already throw 450" and I don't use the step so I'm hoping it will ad at least 30" more.

  • @discgolfgod03 Why lie on the internet? I don't there there is anyone in the world that can throw 37 feet.

  • This was definitely awesome. I have added about 50 feet to my drive and I have also straightened it out quite a bit by finally learning to "S" my drive....I thank you...thank you....thank you....

  • thanks for the ron convers article, i live in florida and the wind picks up in our "winter" summers are only windy in thunderstorms.

  • there is some pretty good info here. looks like there was no wind to speak of. is there any comprehensive explanation of what effect the wind has on a disc?

  • @frisgolfer

The most comprehensive dg wind tutorial ever created is by Oklahoma's Ron Convers. discraft.com/res_wind06_p1.html

  • Mission accomplished! Nice addition there at the end. I have some bad habits and this really helped. Thanks!

  • I didn't even know disc gold was around for 26 years haha

  • The slow motion at the end is awesome. I get all excited and giggly.

  • i throw forehand and my drives keep making an s curve but it wont turn back right what do you think i should do? please help

  • @peterdavisable I started out forhand dominate. I started to develope the same problem. Try to keep the disc as flat as possible on your release. Almost like the outside edge is at a downwards angle on your release like your trying to get it to curve only right and keep your elbow tucked in a little bit. If you throw it really flat like that, it will start out straight, it will go a little left and then will come back right. It depends on what your throwing though.

  • @peterdavisable do you throw right forehand or left forehand? try letting the disc come out a little hyzered, and throw something a little more overstable, what do you throw?

i started backhand and could only get about 320 or so, i started throwing forehand and i throw around 450 consistantly, my personal best is a 513 forehand, i throw a 174 discraft force for max D and a 175 discraft nuke for more controlled shots but still good D

  • @peterdavisable Try angling the disc down a little instead of trying to throw flat

  • i gained 30 feet so far i was throwing 325 now its a little over 350 and getting better with my left arm !!! before i was running up normal and now im learning the backwards run up

  • im 12 and i throw 280 -.-

  • thank u very much. i had problems with my backhand

  • this video has helped me a lot went from 320 to 380+

  • How can Karl even throw 300 with such a runup -.-

  • @saemj Because he's a communist

  • lol one of them throws 300' im 14 and i throw 320'

  • @MrJaakkoLe Wow you're so cool.

  • @MrJaakkoLe

My grandma throws 100 even that she's 72!!!

  • wut disc is they be using? is it understable? i'm using the discraft tracker and only get it 250 ft then it falls hard to the left : (

  • @yumberri Pretty sure the first guy used the discraft avenger, maybe avenger ss. The avenger ss is stable and the avenger is overstable

  • @FIAlex93 Those are two of the most understable drivers discraft makes

  • Good vid, i play all the time :D

  • Hello im Marty Peters. Lessons Individual, Group and clinics. Pros ,ams Beginners!! If your in my area or are willing to travel to me. I want to show you how to improve! You wont go away unhappy! To many people spend yrs trying to get better with little improvement!! Forehand ,Backhand,Putting and disc shot selection. Dont get left behind!!! polehole@hotmail contact me if you want to improve!

  • damn what a beast :o

  • i changed my grip to the first one he shows and am now crushing 300+ with fairway drivers nearly 400 with drivers.

  • i've been lacking power and distance in my backhand drives and have been trying to unlock the secrets to better throws. i was starting to think it was the discs i use, and i throw a discraft esp xl, and elite z xpress, both of which are "long distance". i think this video may help, although i've tried the knuckle grip and completely lose control of my throws. it's a lot to work on but i think it all comes with practice. footwork and body movement is the most important factor, i think. taijutsu

  • awesome advice thanks a lot Marty Peters and uploader! im going out today and am gonna remember this

  • They weren't all that bad too begin with lol. His tips probably did help in the long run though. My throw is very unique. Nobody I know throws like me, and I usually throw 400+ feet. Distance isn't everything though. Most courses are Par 3s, which means 300-400 feet holes. Approach and putting are more than 50% of disc golf. I don't how good they are at those things, but my guess is they need to work on that more than anything.

  • Who put on the clinic ?

  • @youtah676 seriously? who put on the clinic? its written all over the beginning of the video, and if that wasnt enough, this is discraft's youtube channel

  • great advice, I took all his tips for technique and have added a ton of distance to my drive. improved my drives from an average of about 330 feet to over 400 feet in one day. now I'm getting birdie opportunities i never had before and even overthrowing some pins

  • i watched this video about 7 months ago, and it helped my drives alot. i want to go to one of these, and see what im still doing wrong.

  • Great video!! I tried a couple of the adjustments Marty talked about and what do you know..added about 50-75 ft right off the rip. Thanks

  • pretty much the hand grip is....on your hand there is a line that connects from your pointer finger to your palm. that line is where you place your disc, and then you either can place all four fingers pad on the rim or have your pointer and pinky fingers pad on the rim and have your ring and middle fingers finger-tips be touching the rim. For me i use the four pads, because the 2&2 hurts my fingers

  • I've been playing for several years, but my average drive is still in the 250 foot range (seems like every person on the internet throws 350 feet, but i never see them at the courses :P ). I had some issues gripping the disc too hard, and the higher throw...changing to the lower throwing motion and fixing my grip has definitely made my throws more consistent, straighter, and w/ more spin for bigger "s" turns. Great Video! Thanks!

  • Marty could thow a styrofoam party plate farther than me and I have been playin 10 years!

  • Marty Peters is my father, we go disc golfing alot, and when we are playing he tells me everything to do, like in this viedo. Yes, it is hard and may seem frustrating but it will help in the end.

  • @madigirl424 yah he's like do this do that just like my dad : ) but i'm a great dirt biker bc of it.

  • Thanks to Marty, Discraft andthis clinic for improving my drive. I can hit 425+ with a Force now.

    Carl Hall

  • im 16 and ive been playing disc for almost 2 years, everything marty said is absolutely correct. my avg. drive is right around 360 feet. i have the best tandem for discs, the discraft flash and discraft avenger. another small tip that marty didnt say. when your buying a disc try to go for the transparent(you can see through) ones. this not only looks cooler but this means they are made with elite Z plastic which means they usually last long and take less wear&tear

  • @PhillyDooler52 I don't actually like the elite Z plastic, I prefer the ESP, seems like it is a lot more grippy than elite Z.

  • Sweet, I can't wait to give this a shot today. My drives suck horribly and tend to vary extremely. I go anywhere from ~175 feet to ~275 feet or so. I know I'm losing a lot of power in my throw. The hand grip is a little hard to see in the video.

  • @pickboy87 Just following up. So I tried these techniques today and I saw a nice improvement over my throw. I'm still learning the throw (it's a little wild/high at times), but it's definitely farther than before. I don't feel like I'm losing massive amounts of power each time I throw.

  • I watched this video about a month ago. I had about the same problems as the first guy and after adjusting to what he helped the first guy with I have gone from an average of about 325' within a month I'm now throwing anywhere between 400' to 450' on average. I've started practicing my driving on hole 8 at municapal in Moble,Al. Now when I practice driving on that hole people started just standing and and whatching me drive. It feels great

  • number 8 is quite a long hole. especially into the wind. 450 average really cuts that hole down significantly

  • Totally cheesy ending, but I can't wait to try this out. I can drive about 320 but I play some courses with holes over 600 so I would like to get closer to 400 guess I'll find out in a few months when the weather warms up. Till then I'll just keep using the towel drill and working on that nice snap sound

  • Right?!?! Cheesy of all cheesies for the ending...but a good video nonetheless.

  • Marty Peters is a great guy to golf with. He helps everyone on their game. Him and Ryan throw far!

  • ive watched this video several times and always seem to get something from it. too bad, its 10 degrees out where i am.

best driver ever is the surge.

  • oh and i forgot Mark Ellis is the peoples champion, kickass group of guys that Discraft crew

  • Marty is such a cool guy. Played a tournament last week with my girlfriend, we ended up playing with MARTY PETERS. He spent half the day helping her gain about 50-75 feet on her drive. Great guy, fun to play with. Sickest putting I've seen in a while also.

  • this vedio helped so much and now i throw bout 315 at the farthest

  • after watchin'

    I can throw it far

    but it won't go straight

  • Straight as in where you aimed or straight as in the disc tends to turn while flying? The latter will naturally happen when you start throwing harder.

  • This video helped me so much.

And here I had been using a fan grip for all my shots. XD

  • i love disc golf!

i just started playing a month ago and its awesome! im really trying to get better

and the guys i play with r pretty much professionals...i watched both of them ace a 400ft hole...crazy good

they can throw as far as this guy can but they dont throw like he does

  • Wow about 400 feet.

  • 5 Stars! This is a very helpful video, and Marty Peters is a great coach and instructor. Wish I could spend a few minutes with him.

  • Great video, great tips and tweeks.

    What disc are they throwing?

  • ESP Avenger SS i think

  • MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

  • awesome video guys...keep 'em coming

  • :47 was just amazing...the form and flight is just nice to watch...I need more practice.

  • The way that understable disc flatten out when you throw on a hyzer is the pop you put into your wrist. The harder the pop and the smoother the release the more likely you will actually make the disc straighten out. However, if you hyzer to much or dont have as much pop, your disc will fade left pretty quickly. The best thing to do is get your pop down throwing understable disc flat, then once you have a good snap and the discs start turning over slightly adjust the angle more towards hyzer.

  • been playing for a little over a year now with the fan grip, knew about the "power" grip but was to stupid to try it, until now. Just threw my valk and star wraith "softly" in a fieldish area at my work and they ever so softly glided about 200ft with little to no effort on my part, so I cant wait to go out to local course when I get off and put a little more power behind them and see what I can do. Awesome tips 5*!

  • Good video. The end was a little extreme but funny.

  • wow first time seeing this... alls i can say is that im a stud... im the first guy.. in the blue shorts.. that year i got 79th at am nats this year i got 16th.. maybe the clinic helped....

  • Definately one of the better Discraft videos, although I must say that Mark Ellis and his stuff really rocks too!

  • great vid!

  • I will give this a try! Totally different than the way I was taught to throw.

  • I'm going to by a Discraft disc next just because of this video! Thanks!

  • Great advise. Will try it on the course in a day or so. Throw low and at an angle is a little bit opposite of what I´m doing now though...

Love theese vids, full of great advise!

  • its still shoulder to shoulder, just now you are bent over more

  • I love these videos thanx a lot discraft keep em coming

  • I'm Dessard and I'll tell you that what he showed us really works. I've kept working on the angle of release and have really added 75 feet to my throw. Start low and release at a hard angle and the disc will lay out to a perfect S.

  • Sweet! Good job in the video. I like your glasses haha.

  • Excellent - What's the proper arm angle for overstable discs? They video uses understable discs. Thanks

  • yeah ii was thinking about that to.. sure this works on an understable disck but how does it work if they would throw an overstale disc.

  • umm. well u can just try different angles. and which ever gives best result for givin disc is the best angle. i throw pulses and predators on a slight hyzer for the effect they get w/ those understable discs. but honestly no one's angle of release will be the same. so really its up to u to figure it out.

  • the tips for the last guy helps

  • awesome

  • man this would of helped me alot before i had elbow surgery but now i can only trow forehand

  • Cool video. I have been told by a lot of the older golfers at my course not to pull upwards but straight across the chest, and it always seemed counter intuitive to me. Well now I can just relax and go back to pulling the way I had been.

  • nice-SSSSSSS

  • Cheesy ending but still a good video.

  • Great ending , don't listen to mrpeebonehead.

  • oh waow this will help alot, im throwing just like that last guy XD

  • Yeah, same here. AND I'm also bending my wrist too much AND I'm not turning my back enough. I throw around 300-310 feet so here's hoping that this helps. Though it's 31 degrees Fahrenheit outside, so yeah.

  • i hear ya I just got back fromplaying..the cold air makes the discs drop like rocks doesn't it

  • Hopefully this will work, only one way to find out

  • Andrew don't bother you can't improve. LOL
