It took my Choir about 4 weeks, which minus the band *like me* and orchestra kids, practice is about three times a week for 35 minutes, probably on this song for 15 of that 35. It depends on the choir, so just keep practicing until you got it.

Generally, unless changed to help younger, inexperienced choirs, the director will leave the original music with the unaccompanied key change. This was one of my previous choir songs, and we always had fun singing it in front of an audience because the harmonies and dynamics and amazing.
