To answer your question, the games are fun because it fulfills some common fantasy. I used to work for Toys-R-Us. I often fanatasized about being locked in the store overnight and messing with all the stuff. I think most people have. Add zombies, and BAM! The game allows the freedom to interact with so many different combinations of objects, with an endless supply of zombies to use them on. Freedom!

What I heard it's a reinterpretation of the events from Dead Rising 2. I hope that means it's the Dead rising 2 game as Frank West + new stuff. Also says that it has New missions, cutscenes, environments, enemies, items, vehicles, and weapons will be available. I don't think it would be that hard if this is DLC/ Expansion to include a lot of Dead rising 2 original content.
