  • hey, I have a tort only 3 years old :) he's called Sheldon, he attacks my basset hound, the worst thing is the dog is scared of the tort :)

Love this video firs time I've seen the torts this big :)

  • bloody hell thats a big tortoise is that a herman tortoise plus cute dog and do u know how much a great dane eats per week coz i need to know

  • Where did u get that freaking turtle!? D:

  • Awwwwwww such an adorable pup!!!

  • That old dude is like "Get lost, kid! I have poos older than you!"

  • awew great dane love him wtf with the yurtle

  • It's a pup named Scooby-Doo! lol

  • If a tortoise and a puppy can find companionship; why can't we people learn to love each other? ;~;

  • @gOtHiCxAnGeLxox Because people are all about money, greed and ignorance has poisoned people.

  • @HDFPS PREACH

  • BEAUTIFULLLLLLLL great dane!!!!!

  • Holy....my brindle dane looks just like yours! Look up "chuy great dane"

  • Oh, that is so amazing!! Looks like Mr Turtle is adamant about taking over the doggie pillow!! Typical Brindle Dane Pup, they sure are a handful at that age, BEFORE they turn into couch potatoes! Lol, great video. Looks like your animals are well taken care of too.

  • haha pls tell me why u have that thing and a dog playing with it haha

  • lol That is too cute

  • That tortoise really doesn't like the dog....sure they are good to have around eachother?

  • My dog ate my tortise. I thought everything was fine as they got along for years, but then again it shows you animals are unpredictable.

  • lol he just wants to cuddle

  • cachorro tá boladão kkkkkkkk

  • they fear the turtles bite too hard ..! D;

  • We have had danes 4 ever. Now my sons gotten two of thoose turtoises. I knew they'd get big but its pup power vs turt. Thats funny gad to forward video to him in army. Since i am turt sitting while he at base this weekend. Thanks 4 laugh.

  • @69sinderella69 In the over 50 years that we had Boris, he has never been upset with any of our dogs.

Of course, they never tried to take his food. lol Wonderful, hope they all enjoy it.

  • has the tortoise been handed down in your family?

  • @Accipiter22 Yes, from my parents to me and one day do one of my kids and maybe the grandkids.. I am sure he will out live us all.

  • That's so cool I wonder if he was trying to flip the dog over like another male. What do you feed him? His shell looks good!

  • @nate3535 He eats lettuce mostly but he loves corn. I cook it for him a couple time a week. He also loves fresh fruit and one very strange thing is his favorite food..... roses.

  • I saw the whole thing, dude! First, you were like, whoa! And then we were like, WHOA! And then you were like, whoa.

    - Crush the Turtle

  • Costco

  • Where did you get the bed?

  • The puppy is like "whoa, slow down dude".

  • I had a wolf dog that would kill and eat practically any other animal. Seeing videos like this scare the crap out of me because I expect the dog to rip the turtle's head off any second. I keep having to realize that most dogs just want to play and don't consider other animals as food. I think I'm a bit traumatized by my dog and never realized it until now.

  • @goliathprime

Probably not traumatized just the wrong association with different types of dogs. Some would be like that but if you are looking for a very sweet dog danes are the best but if you ask other dog owners they will say theirs is the best. If you are looking for a sweet dog check the net for good temperament dogs. There are plenty of them.

  • This is the cutest thing ever!!!! I bet the Dane is huge by now!

  • @brutusntiny

I saw your video of Steel. He is absolutely gorgeous. Danes are the best dogs ever.

Miss Marley is now 15 months old and about 100 lbs. I was told she would get to 140 lbs but I don't think that is going to happen. I love her so much! She always makes my day.

  • the dog is like "ARRRHHH GODZIRRAAA"

  • Omg lol at the tortoise it's like a tank.

  • lovely, as for anyone saying anything negative, you can see they are healthy and happy. really made me smile sweet :)

  • @jennydody

Thank you. Miss Marley has grown into a beautiful and sweet dog. She is now 15 months old.

Boris is still king of the castle. lol

  • This is the most bizarre battle of all time. I felt sorry for the dog at first, but just saw the other video where he steals the tortoise's food, so he kind of deserves it! :p

  • @astral365

Miss Marley who is now 15 months old is very sweet but has gone on to stealing the cats treats. They are not happy with her either.

  • I wonder what behaviour the tortoise is exhibiting here. Is it seeing off a predator? Is it a general dominance thing? I wonder.

    Made me laugh, though. :)

  • @Kthonix

My guess is it is a dominance thing. Boris got along fine with my other dog. They each kept to themselves.

When Marley was a pup, she just wanted to play with everything and so I am guessing Boris just needed to show her who was in charge.

  • @quietime4me what type of tort?

  • @RhysonXbox

Boris is a California Desert Tortoise.

  • love love love...so cute..

  • @msalibella

    Thank you,

  • arent you worried the tortoise would nip and the dane? i used to have a pet duck (odd i know but the thing would play fetch like a dog) and he would nip at by dane

  • And not a single fuck was given that day.

    By the turtle at least.

  • Boris is still holding a grudge after all this time?? Wow, I think tortoises should be the ones that never forget. ;)

Haha, "You took my lettuce - I'm gonna take your bed."

  • Glad you like it. Miss Marley is now over 100 lbs and so sweet. I now keep them separated as because Boris still chases her .

  • I'M DYING THIS IS SO CUTE.

  • FAKE

  • @chatch15117 what? how??

  • awesome. what kind of tortoise is this?

  • @omicronx9

Boris is a California Desert Tortoise.

  • Since I only have animals of the cute fuzzy kind, I'd love to ask you a couple questions: Can you tell if your tortoise is in a good mood? Does he like people?

  • @CurlyJessie

Can't really tell his moods as he has no expression. I guess he does get in angry moods when he goes after Marley.. I think he likes people because he comes to me or actually anybody that has food for him.

  • SO CUTE. I love that he's still out for revenge over his stolen lettuce.

How does anyone think Boris is in danger? These people have clearly never played with a puppy. Those playful nips don't break human skin, much less that of a tortoise. (Not to mention, tortoise SHELL. HE LIVES IN A TANK.) I was more worried about him latching onto the puppy! (For the record, I am a vegetarian who's hugely protective of animals. Boris is clearly in good hands.)

  • i think Boris is lovely old man, very handsome lol. i have two tortoises and 2 dogs, the dogs will move out of there way and the male tortoise will chase them. have a look at my video of him with my freinds new puppy.

  • Ok for the people that are saying this is rude and ignorant are out of there minds! This is such a great video! i love the tortoise and the dane! omg your animals are great. your dane is beautiful!

  • "I'm not touching you! I'm not touching you! I'm still not touching you!"

    "moooom, he's touching me"

  • Lol! The tortoise is like get off that bed you young whipper snapper, I'm having it! :)

  • I love this video I keep watching it all the time thanks for letting us see 2 very different species interact!!

  • Ur crule

  • @benmichalak Why is he cruel? The puppy isnt going to hurt the tortoise.O.o I've seen tortoises survive unhurt after being attacked by alligators, crocodiles, lions and so on

  • Thank you very much!! This video makes feel so good!

  • NO sarcasm intended. I am sure there is a world of difference between an tortoise that has been socialized for 40 years, and one that just wandered the 100 yards from open desert. I have no problem with Boris's life with you. I personally wouldn't keep the one I found, as I have no idea how to care for one. Your video rocks, no insult intended.

  • @nlper999 My apologies. I have gotten several comments that make it sound like I am being cruel and irresponsible. I have become a bit sensitive. I love my pets and take good care of them. Glad you like the video. I put it up because I though it would be interesting for others to see how different species can interact and size doesn't matter. Did you see my other video that actually happened first. It is why Boris was after her. " Why Boris throws a punch" enjoy.

  • @quietime4me Iwas actually terrified of the one we found, as it really went onthe defense when I picked it up and boxed it. I can see Boris leads a very dignified life. I shared your video on facebook under the title, "Age, wisdon and determination win over youth, speed and enthusiasm." I will watch Boris's other movie now.

  • WOnderful video. My dog recently cornered an AZ desert tortoise, wild in the yard that we took and put in a safe place in the desert so the locals wouldn't paint it in day glo and keep in their rock gardens (thank you for not treating BOris like a home decor object). We finally snuck down to the edge of the local arboretum and let him go there. I was surprised at how aggressive he was. (Yes, we know it was a "he").

  • @nlper999 Do I detect sarcasm. For the past 52 years we are all that Boris has ever known. When he is awake he is fed fresh lettuce and fresh fruits. I cook ears of corn for him and cool them down so he gets to eat it very fresh. He comes indoors and walks around and comes over to us with his head way out so we can rub his neck. He love that. Like it or not, he is domesticated and is living a wonderful life.

  • Adorable! I have a yucitan box tortoise and the thing that people don't get is that they're as friendly and curious as any other animal. She wanders around our house for 3/4ths of the year, then hibernates under a book case for the winter. She knows ti go into the kitchen for food or water, and the hallway by our front door if she wants to go outside. Great video, thanks for sharing =D

  • @Jazzlizard I am so glad you enjoyed it. Boris is hibernating right now. They really smart creatures the way they move around our houses. Thank you, Sue

  • As an owner of danes and turtles/tortoises for many years, I find the video to be absolutely adorable. The tortoise is in no danger, and the dane is learning positive social skills. People who have never owned a dane pup should really stop offering their expert internet advice. They've clearly never experienced a dane "snout bump" which is what I see the pup doing a few times. It's not biting, it's inviting the tortoise to play. This is a friendly interaction!

  • @danegrrrl Hi danegrrrl, Marley is now 7 months and does the snout bump all the time. You are right, it means she want to play. She usually has a pull rope in her mouth when she does it. Danes are pure joy...

  • Oh AND, it's a Great Dane. Last I checked, Danes aren't exactly well known for being ruthless, bloodthirsty killers. I'm done now. :-D

  • I've owned both tortoises and dogs for years - dogs nip and bite each other when they play all the time. The pup isn't biting hard, more like "mouthing." Secondly, a tort that big is more than a match for that pup, and still would be when the Dane is full grown.... tortoises are tough animals with thick, scaly skin, AND he could very easily pull into his shell and hide if he truly felt threatened, and would if he did. Enough with the pc bs already, it's a great video!

  • @TinyGreenTurtles Thank you Tiny, The tortoise is the aggressive one here. He just does a bump on Marley.

Marley just keeps her distance though Boris was still chasing her. He is now hibernating. That is about the only time he goes into his shell. He is in charge.

  • The only thing that could make this better is music. I'm thinking "Particle Man"

  • What a beautiful Dane! I love your Tortoise as well, I have one too it's just not the same kind as yours. All in all great video!

  • These two are adorable :D

  • @chromelung66 Right, kick ass. Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're fucked up. Ah, you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded. What I'd do, is just like... like... you know, like, you know what I mean, like...

  • I have tortoise for 15 years now and once they get used to people they are very social and respond when we call it.

  • I didn't know tortoises get that big.

  • THANKYOU FOR THE RESPONSE

  • what turdle wants, turdle gets, not puppers.

  • what kind of tortoise is that? =]

  • @TortoiseLovaFoLifey

He is a California Desert Tortoise.

  • @TortoiseLovaFoLifey

Boris is a California Desert Tortoise.

  • Aren't you worried if the dog will bite the tortoise's legs or head? I know it brings it's head in quickly and that the dog is just playing but what if the dog bites a little too hard one day or something? The tortoise's head is so small i'd be worried about putting it next to a dog like that but still cute video.

I wonder if anybody who knows about tortoise's behavior could explain if the tortoise is playing or exactly what it's doing in general, it's interesting.

  • this dog will surely grow up and kill this turtle. It will be large and strong enough to rip this thing to pieces.

I hate people who do this.

  • @BeyondNeptune

Marley is my third Great Dane. Boris has outlived them all with not so much as a scratch. I have no worries at all. My parents were responsible owners and taught me the same as I have taught my children who are now adults and will one day have the pleasure of Boris in there homes. "They can all get along"

It is too bad that you think this way about creatures. You must have had bad experiences. I am sorry for you.

  • @BeyondNeptune , you are a moron. Have you ever owned a desert turtle? Turtles LIVE IN THE DESERT. I think they can handle a domestic pet. Great Danes are not pit bulls and they don't live very long by avg dog standards. This family has owned this turtle for decades. I think they know better than you w/ your PC PETA BS. How long do u think a Great Dane would last in the Mojave? Think before u type. Better yet, just stop commenting about what u know NOTHING about.

  • Can't stop the tank

  • That Tortoise is like "What are you yapping at, i was around when your great great great great great grandpa was nursing his mommy".

  • @ZX2ManDave

    You got that right...lol

  • PLEASE HELP WHAT KIND OF TURTLE IS THAT

  • @MrJruiz2121

Boris is a California Desert Tortoise.

  • lol i bet the dog thinks its a toy I would so have a tortoise name him michaelangelo and eat pizza and watch ninja turtles

  • Well if the turtle has been sleeping on that mat for 75 years I would say it is his. That turtle was around when cars still had Rumble seats and running boards. WW2 was still in the future and gas was 18cents a gallon.

  • Boris and Myrtle? I love how you give your tortoises old-people names. LOL!

  • @KrazeeKunoichi009

Keep in mind the turtle is 75. It very well could have been named by the very old Adult Grandchildren of George Washington.

  • @matrox

True, his previous name was Tramp but we changed it about 40 years ago.

  • The concept alone is hilarious. This dog behaves like my brindle chiweenie. What an adorable spaz. Ha ha. But that turtle is determined. Cool video!

  • @madest

You are very ignorant and rude. Boris comes into the house daily for a stroll. In the winter he parks himself in the closet to hibernate. He made a hole in our screen door to make it accessible. He had a mate Myrtle for 48 years who passed away last year. Boris has a large yard to walk around in and is very socialized. At our old house he actually would climb 3 steps to get into the house. I don't think he would do that if he was unhappy.

  • @quietime4me , you got that right. Ive noticed that people on YouTube are very rude and ignorant. Arrogant too. I've noticed that sadly this is a particularly American trait too. I think US parenting skills have gone down the toilet thanks to PC nonsense. I grew up in So Cal w/ 2 tortoises & believe me, they do what they want & are hardier than you'd think. Ever see a pack of 8-10 yr olds play w/ 2 tortoises? This was the 70's when all was still beautiful & people acted human. Funny vid btw!

  • @chromelung66, Thank you for your response. I have to say I was really shocked by some of the negative comments. I appreciate your letting them know how ignorant they are. Boris is now hibernating and Marley is now 80 lbs. I don't think when Boris wakes up in March that Marley's size of 150lbs will matter to him. I do wonder if he will remember that Marley took his food and hold that grudge. My guess is they will just ignore each other like the past generations. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • @madest

Iam sure you dont know much about these animals, otherwise you wouldnt react so unknown. These animals, are for sale. Not wild you see. Millions of people have a turtle as pet. You can as well say: why keeping a rabbit in the house? Its a wild animal and should be living in nature. Same with horses, dogs and cats...

You can see the turtle is looking for the dog out of itself, so dont give this weird reaction.

  • @hutseflutsel, Dogs, cats and horses are domesticated.Tthey rely on Humans. Sure they could survive without us but they've had their wild instincts bred out of them.

Keeping a turtle for your own amusement is creul and unusual punishment. Doesn't matter what you think.

  • Comment removed

  • What I think is not the point, I did not give my opinion. I learned and work with these animals, and domesticated is a nie word. But if an animal growes up in the forest its wild, and in a house its a pet. My dogs breed is domesticated, but she will survive in the wild if I put her there as a puppy. If I catch a young wild rabbit it will be a rabbit like other pet-rabbits. Its not that I want a discussion, I just think your reaction is wrong, firtst get info before you judge.

  • @madest , God I came to this video laughing and now as I read the arrogance and ignorance in this new generation of American idiots, I know Charlotte Iserbyt is right when she wrote the book "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America". When I was a kid in the 70's going through school, the US was always in the top 10 academically.(OECD) Now we barely make the top 40! It's not so much the ignorance that bothers me w/ people like madest, its the arrogance. They think they know it all. Unreal.

  • @chromelung66, Only people who read the books you read are smart and people who don't are dumb. Is that how it works? Silly for an evoloved, thinking human to extrapolate the enjoyment of his freedom onto an animal. Elephants in zoos are happy. The (serial) Killer Whale of Seaworld is actually ecstatic to spend it's life in a swimming pool. Why would you suggest to the poster boy for dumb America to read a book by someone who's name they can't pronounce? Are you a moron?

  • @hutseflutsel , finally someone sane. Let me guess without even looking at your profile... you're NOT American. Everyone on here playing PETA godhead, go read ex Dept of Education president Charlotte Iserbyt's book, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America. Of since you most likely don't read books or much more than text messages and twitter, at least check out her website. Google her name. I'm out.

  • @chromelung66 Thank you, Iam not American no. I am Dutch. Doesnt matter. The person who uploaded this vid was showing her turtle and dog playing. The people reaction that this is animalcruelty only react on what they SEE, not what they KNOW. Turtles are pets, just like dogs and cats. So if people worry about this person having a wild animal in the house, please get info before react..

  • Tortoise: "C'mon baby!"

    Pup: "No..."

  • @quietime4me omg that sucks :( i have a box turtle who is tiny in comparison but pretty fast on her feet XD

  • What great pets to have! How lucky you are to have the turtle(s) and the pup is adorable Dogs do establish who is the pack leader - could be human or other animal, so your pup may just allow Boris to be the dominant pet. One thing many people do when introducing new pets into a home with previously established ones, is put some drops of Bach Flower Essence "Rescue Remedy" in their water. People even use it on farms when introducing new cows to the herd. It us safe and has a calming influence.

  • @loriheather

Thank you Lori, I just looked it up and I saw it works with reptiles. The one listed under Holly looks perfect. I never heard of this before. I am going to check it out a little more and I will let you know what happens.

  • what is the tortoise trying to do? the dane puppy is beautiful. two of the best dogs i've had in my 68 years were brindle danes - one girl, one boy

  • @lovesbriardi

Boris has been angry with the pup since she took his lettuce away while he was eating. It is going to be a long summer keeping them apart. I need to get some advice of how to calm Boris down before someone gets hurt. Right now I keep the Tortoise in the dog run. I think Boris is just trying to claim everything his territory. I actually found him sleeping in the dog crate the other day.

  • @lovesbriardi

I have had a blue with black spots and an all black. They were wonderful. That was many years ago. I fell in love with her black mask on the brindle. She is 12 weeks now and very sweet and smart. Don't know what I am going to do about getting Boris to leave her alone. Any suggestions?

  • what a great vid!!pooch is ubercute and a 75 yr old tortoise!! awesome!!

  • your pup is adorable, btw how did you get 75 year old tortoise? is it legal? just curious. lol :)

  • @colorchalk

My parents got him for me over 50 years ago and they were told he was 25 at that time. It is legal as he is actually registered with the National tortoise society. I don't know about today's rules. Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • @quietime4me Wow, you've had that tortoise for over 50 years?? That's great.

  • @nrgins

I am sure he is going to out live me. lol

  • @quietime4me Yeah, no doubt. Do you have plans on what to do when you're gone? Give him to your kids?

BTW, did u see this about the tortoise & the hippo? Great story!! bit(.)ly/cuoF87

  • @nrgins

I have three grown kids so I know he will be taken care of. I am going to check out the hippo video. I have another video of what started Boris being so angry and Boris taking a swing with his paw at Miss Marley. Do you think those would be interesting to upload?

  • @quietime4me Yes! Absolutely!! Upload the video!! Best to keep them short (like less than 2 minutes). But having lots of these little videos would be great. They're quite an interesting pair!! :-)

  • @nrgins

Did you see the other video yet. I edited it down. I was blown away when I saw Boris take a swing at Marley. Question, I am new to youtube. Do you think I should block the user madest or let people like him ramble?

  • @quietime4me

let ppl ramble - i have some political vids and its best to keep discussion going - esp. if you want to attract viewers. Now if he goes off the deep end then pull his mic and remove the comment

  • @nrgins

We are off to the vet to see what we can do about these two. I now have the tortoise living in the dog run. He came after her yesterday swinging both arms.

  • @quietime4me Wow. She's probably really annoying him! Well, at least he's not snapping at her! Maybe keep Marley tied to a post when they're together, so the tortoise can get out of her range, but they can still be around each other? That's too bad. I'd imagine to that 75 year old tortoise, that young brat must be very annoying!! :-)

  • @quietime4me Also, I guess Marley just wants to play, which is probably why she stole the lettuce. I guess if you were able to get another dog, she'd probably leave Boris alone and just play with the other dog.

  • boris needs to teach marley a lesson lol

  • @unspokenunknown

When Marley gets to 150 lbs. I bet it won't phase Boris.

  • I have more video of Miss Marley and Boris the tortoise coming soon. Boris actually takes a swing at Marley.

  • lol awww
