  • Perfect! Every fucking detail!!!

  • Within my dining room, I lie back and engorge myself inside the trail of emotions a seemingly closed man portrays within song.

Pain my only companion, I follow the rhythm of my memories ...

My son ... love, he knows only ... so divine ... so still ...

Emotions consuming, I find myself chanting in sync ...

To all I say this ... and to Maynard as well ...

Not your soul nor your tears may you compare to the next man ...

But one thing remains constant ...

We all leave footprints in the sand ...

  • "Ignorant siblings in the congregation

    Gather around spewing sympathy,

    Spare me.

None of them can even hold a candle up to you."

intense lyrics, probably the best song ever written imo

  • everyone is going to capture any song in their own perception. The beauty of us being individuals is we have individual views, choices and thought processes. When you meet someone with similar or the same, typically you grow attracted to that person as a friend or much more.

Realize reality and stop trying to prove your artwork. Just paint it and let the world take it for what they will, this is life.

  • To try to imagine what Maynard is feeling as he sings "Give me my wings!" sends chills down my spine.

  • This is a beautiful song. It's a hell of a way to say goodbye to his mother.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high.

Shake your fist at the gates saying,

    "I have come home now...!"

Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father.

Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.

Although I'm not religious, I'm glad he ended up respecting her choice to keep faith through her years.

  • I absolutely love this song, but I have a hard time actually listening to it because of how close I come to crying when listening to it.

  • Let me know if I have this right, I know music lyrics of Tool calibur is subjective in many ways, but I take from this song is, deny the creator (if there is one) for lack there of evidence, and if you so happend to face him, say that you've been a good person and never took a life, so why should I be tossed into fire? Is that anywhere in the ballpark? Love this song! :D

  • Excuse me I don't wanna be rude but in 8:27 i cum

  • In my top 5 songs of all time, by any band. Mesmerizing

  • I love tool... they have so much passion, and they somehow portray a harsh reality that can be beautiful. Thanks for changing my life, tool!

  • Maynard James Keenan, you have a big heart.

Personally, the only honest woman I've met so far in my 18 years old life, is my mother.

I love you mother. NEVER leave me alone in this cruel world please.

  • tool e-5 form 5a!

  • So fucking great while high hahaa

  • awesome

  • Comments should be disabled for all Tool songs.

  • Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough;

    you're going home.

    chills every fucking time.

  • @Danananiel more like tears.

  • @Danananiel yeeeaH!

  • @Danananiel same

  • play this song with wings for marie part one. i promise it will blow your mind.

  • May 22, 2012 is gonna be the best day of my life

  • Stop calling these guys songwriters, they are poets.

  • @pawtucket89 nah bro, Artists is better, They tap into their souls and project it as sound to bless everyones ears who hear it

  • the destiny of the rock music is in your hands...

  • I think i listened to this song for 10.000 hours..

  • 8:30 True Orgasm

  • Every time: ORGASMIC !!!

  • I find it amazing that my ex views these guys as a overly "aggressive" and negative band and that is why she likes them. Thy are mad just like her kinda thinking. They hold strong opinions, but I really don't see them as being overtly negative, pissed perhaps...but there is always a hint of hope for change or personal growth in almost (i think) every song.

  • My last response - QUESTION AUTHORITY. - MJK fans know.

  • "Fibbers in the congregation"? Really? I teach college writing and I would never accept such tripe from my students. Musically, Tool is inventive and admirable. Lyrically...well, let's just say, at least for this track, I know plenty of 12-year-olds who could surpass Maynard. I'm not hating, my you; I love Tool. But this song (and much--though by no means all--of this album) makes me lose all respect for their intellectual capacities. Again, "fibbers in the congregation"!

  • @rocinante821 Did you hear those lyrics correctly, teach? There's more introspection in the song than you may be listening to. Most likely - more than so. Take it from someone else who teaches; Why would you suggest anything about a 12 year old's mind, to this fabulous output of James's own thoughts and feelings? Do you realize this is about his mother? Being in a wheelchair for roughly 10,000 days? His feelings on God and a 12 year old's is surely different. Test time, Buddy.

  • @rocinante821 What the f, does college writing have to do with this anyhow? Listen to interviews about what JMK has said, himself. He writes, performs, does this to progress in his life. All lyrics, per album, are for that benefit. If someone else enjoys it, so be it. It wasn't made for your own critique, Sir. It was made for an emotional passing. I could be a dick, and say, "Hey, write a better song, because your mom was a crip for 10,000 days", but that would be as unjust.

  • @rocinante821 As a teacher of college writing, surely you know about context. Those 4 words by themselves might seem like 'tripe' to you, but within the context of the verse, illustrates Maynards contempt for religion. Even though I think each word Maynard uses is very deliberate, I dont think they should be evaluated individually. Or, in this case, as an incomplete line from a verse. Just as a side note, "their intellectual capacities" dont stop with their lyrics. So much more to this song...

  • @rocinante821 "I'm not hating, my you"

Do you mean 'mind you', here? Because 'my you' makes no sense.

  • @rocinante821 I don't really care for "fibber" either, but I actually tried finding a word that both conveyed the insincerity of the congregation & fit right with the melody. He could have used "liars," but it doesn't have a consonant at the end of the first syllable like every other multisyllable word in this part of the song. I actually used to think he was saying "flippants in the congregation." Which would have implied insincerity; flippant people are rarely sincere & almost always ignorant.

  • @HunkyTalkenMonkey01 "Fibber" might seem like an unusual word to use, but I actually really like it. Why? Well, the word fibber doesnt just mean "liar". It also means someone who embellishes the truth (white lies), or is a bit of a storyteller. Seems to be the perfect word for those christians who delude themselves into thinking they are worthy. Those same christians that tell white lies of their devotion to god, when they are nothing compared to MJK mother. Finally, just a little question..cont

  • @jaydeeinbriz If someone called you a "liar" or a "fibber" what would you consider to be the real insult? My guess is liar would upset most. But with the word "fibber", I get the sense that that word was used intentionally not only just to insult the congregation but to mock them as well. This is only my interpretation, but I doubt he used the word "fibber" because it worked into the melody. I think he is too clever for that...

  • @jaydeeinbriz I guess I would say liar cuts deeper; "fibber" has a lighter connotation to me, & I assume, most people. I can see the mocking thing too, but I do think he gives a lot of consideration to the way words sound together. I'm sure there is a name for this, but I can't think of it now. you know what I mean though? "liars" has the same amount of syllables as "fibbers" but, "liars" doesn't flow the same way, and that has to do with the consonant placement I mentioned.

  • @rocinante821 He's making a doing-word out of a thing-word!

    To the stake with him!

  • @rocinante821 The lyric is "ignorant flippants in the congregation".

  • @00roastedlampost00 It's "ignorant siblings in the congregation."

  • @Whodatfootball You only need to listen to it to hear what it is. I'm not sure where these alternative lyrics are coming from.

  • @00roastedlampost00 I got that lyric from a site, because I wanted to know the lyrics. It sounded like it said siblings too, anyways. My album didn't come with lyrics :(

  • @Whodatfootball I don't think any of the albums have lyrics written in the liner notes. Something to do with fans drawing their own meanings and interpretations.

  • 33 people only live for 999 days

  • @scottishman96 that would actually be 9,999 days stupid

  • 7:55 yeah.... nuff said best song on the album

  • @Hamporkcheese 4:00 is my go-to

  • this song resonates to my soul.

  • @PacisVictus My soul resonates to this song

  • He truly is amazing human being

  • Maynard is God.

  • @jaydeeinbriz -....Marry Me!

  • if you are in your 27 years thumbs up

  • TEARS ?!! ... WHAT HAPPENED TO ME ???

  • @razkhaneh You're not the only one. I get them listening to Reflection, too.

  • T.T

  • @batmannrobbie I wasn't aware that I said anything to indicate that "Maynard" considers himself a god. Nor did I even hint that Maynard is his real name. And musical talent isn't about who you open for. It's about the emotions that you convey to your fans, and how you change Their lives. So really, don't worry about me ever listening to Your music. I'm sure there isn't much of a chance of that happening. Just wouldn't want you to lose any sleep over it...Troll.

  • @TheMindege - I won't....

  • what a bunch of gay

  • Excuse me for being stupid, but, is there a part one?

  • @5minlatecomebacks Try "Wings for Marie (Pt 1)"

  • @5minlatecomebacks hahaha....my thoughts exactly

  • I think its kinda funny the people that put meaning into stuff that isn't there. For those talking about the whole center of morality, the menaing of life and what not, its a song about Maynard's mom: Judith Marie. Think about it

  • 31 people accidentally clicked the dislike button. Maynard is a God! Everything he does is phenomenal. The things his voice does to me...... *sigh*

  • @TheMindege - A god.... how many do you have.... I saw your God open for Nine Inch Nails..... What kind of God opens for Trent Reznor.... your a f@cking retard..... I hope you never listen to my music..... and for the record Maynard isn't his real name and he doesn't consider himself a god.... red waters.....

  • @batmannrobbie ... And for the record, Trent Reznor isnt his real name. You also asked "What kind of God opens for Trent Reznor?" You would be referring to A Perfect Circle? Maynards side project?? Perhaps you could name a more successful side project Trent was frontman for? Dont get me wrong, Trent is a legend and has done amazing shit for music and the industry, but to true Tool fans, Maynard IS a god (whether he likes it or not).

  • @jaydeeinbriz - What, are you the president of the Tool fan club....you don't speak for us... let each of us speak for ourselves.... I love Tool.... A Perfect Circle and Puscifer as well.... Maynard is an incredible artist and a remarkable person.... but he's not God.... grow up.... your remarks are adolescent.... what are you like eight years old or something.... why don't you grow for 10 000 days and then we"ll continue this discussion.... or you could just piss off.... you choose....

  • @batmannrobbie Nice post about age "red waters" - good one. When I grow up, I wanna be smart and mature - just like you. Even though I make adolencent comments from an eight year old(?), Im hoping you can teach me how to come to Youtube site, and call someone a "f@cking retard" for saying Maynard is a "God". I might have some trouble with the whole "I can give it, but I cant take it" mentality thing you have going, but hopefully you can teach me how you do that too..... blue waters.....

  • @batmannrobbie i think it´s okay, at some point in your life at your "level" of conciusness, you can see your father and mother like gods when you are 5 years old, at some point that´s OK, you learn respect, love, etc, we all are TOOLS for knowing GOD, each at his/her level we are all trying to find something, be open!

  • @erikimba - Be open to what.... ignorance or sin.... red waters....

  • @batmannrobbie to listen other people to tell you their histories, maybe you can catch something good/worthy for your learning curve (spiral out, keep going....)

  • @erikimba - the only history I've heard here is yours.... and that's no more than a glimpse..... i don't make judgements..... but, I'm not afraid to fight for what I believe in..... I am what I am.... a pretty hate machine....

  • I can't describe how much Tool has changed my view on human existence, for the better. Although it can be hard to relate to others at times =P Maynard and co are just incredible, felt like yesterday my friend introduced me to them.. never looked back since.

  • @malbloodline Exact same thing happen to me 5 years ago. My "friend" let me borrow this album and it been far out shit ever since then.

  • @malbloodlie Jeez you tool bags are unbelievable. Tool is great but it's just music, as soon as it becomes more than that you need to seiously re-evaluate your lives. I pitty peaple who have a love no greater in there lives than that of one for a group/band. Sorry. Love this song and whole albun though.

  • @beardovonpork people have their things in life that means something to them. so what if they have tool to listen to. you should be preaching at most religions than a somewhat religious tool fan. tool > than most things on earth.

  • AHHHH!! I love this song soooo much. the lyrics, the instruments.. Ahh heaven...

  • the lyrics on this song are incredible. give me shivers

  • beğenmeyenin aq.

  • :,(

  • RIP JUDITH MARIE

  • i will listen to this song in 4 years again when i'm 27 and get my 10000 days

  • Ten thousand days in the freezer is long enough, you're going to the oven.

  • 30 assholes don't love their mothers. How could you dislike such an emotional song? It's a shame that Maynard poured his soul into this song, just for a bunch of assholes on youtube to "dislike" it. Such an unnecessary feature...

  • 30 people disliked this video

  • I know the whole song is great but 5:14-5:38 Just gives me chills

  • @Xboxboi79 right there !!!!

  • lol I always think of "School's Out for Summer" when I hear this song. Some of the riffs totally sound like it.

  • In this song we can easily feel Maynard's pain... Very atmospheric...

  • 30 People Don't Know Anything!

  • jak są jacyś Polacy to niech zrobią kciuk w górę bo nie wiem czy ktoś słucha toola oprócz mnie więc pokażcie że żyjecie!!!!!!!!

  • Judith Marie gave birth to one amazing artist. I'm sure wherever she is, she is proud. This is a powerful ballad in a day where most rock music is watered down and lets face it kind of crap. Its great we have great artist like Tool that still brings music like this to our ears.

  • Wonderful song! do someone know if tool have any lp? would so want some!

  • Chills everywhere.

One of the deepest songs ever heard.. I wont' have enough of these words.

    Maynard never disappoints.

  • i love this song!

    it's amazing

    it's beautiful

    it's powerful

it's just one of my favorite songs, i love it

  • Makes me think of mom.

  • Why does being old make a song better than an amazing song from today? Tool is better than Floyd, and Zepplin in my opinion.

  • I love the art

  • This song affects me in a way I don't understand.

  • @ChristianWarrior

0microbia0 called your name subjective and inadequate, bro! So if inadequate, then he's objectively observed your ChristianWarrior-ness at some point and then found you inadequate in that capacity. But I think its more likely that he' never seen you and is merely speculating. And so, since were all speculating now, I submit with equal standing that you'd kick his ass. subject him to inadequate brain oxygen

  • This is the most powerful song I have ever heard.

  • Dude, there is a reason Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is known around the world. I'm a huge TOOL fan, but Dark Side of the Moon is timeless, even after all these decades. Don't get me wrong, I believe TOOL is probably the best modern artist, but with no Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin where would these musicians be? There is a reason Floyd can still pack stadiums, STADIUMS, and there is a reason why Zeppelin easily packed 20,000 at the 02 Arena. Did you see the waiting list for that? Show respect.

  • @rodrigr33 Whether or not Floyyd or Zeppelin could pack and do still stadiums is completely irrelevant to the actual music itself. Personally for me 10,000 days has a way higher musical aesthetics compared to Dark Side of the Moon. The emotion range is just superior.

  • another top song one of my fav songs of all time rock on tool!!

  • 10,000 days

are only 27 years, 4 months, 15 days.

    she only lived 27 years

and the last day before day 14 that's the last moment of her life

  • @TheOsirix12 actually its about his mom. she had cancer and was told she didn't have very long, but she suffered for 27 years.

  • that song so touched me and very sad too

Should you see your maker's face tonight

    Look him in the eye

Look him in the eye and tell him

I never lived a lie, never took a life,

    But surely saved one

    this was the best part

    poor marie:(

  • I will never know the pain Maynard felt when his mom died but I sure as hell can feel it.

  • @cloera154 Ye I know what you mean.. I must have heard the song and sang along to it for a year before I read up about it's meaning... now I can't get through singing the song without bawling my eyes out!

  • @cloera154 it was actually his aunt but she was like a mother to him

  • @tserrof3693 where do you get your facts?

  • @tserrof3693 i dont think so since of later of his songs and interviews and "yells" at his siblings for not being there for his mom.

  • @FistDAccount just from what i have read and under stand it is his aunt he was raised by her and counts her as a mother and cousins as brothers and sisters i may be wrong but i dont think i am give me some proof i would like to know the truth not doubting you or talking shit just i would really like to know. thanks sorry if i sound like a dick not trying to.

  • @tserrof3693 sorry...i was a little drunk when i wrote that. hell if i know if its his aunt or actual mother. sorry to bother you. peace!

  • @cloera154 just to let you know it was his aunt but thumbs up!

  • @tserrof3693 James Keenan was born in Akron, Ohio, on April 17, 1964, the only child of Judith Marie and Michael Loren Keenan. When Keenan was 11, his mother suffered a paralyzing cerebral aneurysm, which would later serve as the inspiration for many of his creative works.[

  • @jaydeeinbriz Jimmy (James's nickname) from Aenima being one of the more notiable. "eleven and she was gone, eleven is when we waved goodbye...etc" It all comes back to his mother and how unjust of her God to leave her in "the fire" or pain for so long, when she was such a good person.

  • 8:20 to 9:14..... nuff said

  • I cant even begin to understand why there is a dislike button here. And even more so I cant understand the morons that push that button.....

  • TOOL FANS !!!!!!!!!! HELP THIS SONG BRING 1000000 views !!!!!!!! SHARE IT SHOW IT YOUR FRIENDS AND AND WHEN YOU LIKE THIS IDEA THUMBS UP WHEN NOT THUMBS DOWN

  • Tool is about 4th dementional transituoning... Right?

  • @rastaR00STER No, this song is about the death of Judith.

  • This is some of the best music I have ever heard ( this album ) Maybe I've lived 10,000 days. I'm 53 y/o...( Arkansas Ozarks )

  • @jimmyofaden 10,000 days = roughly 28 yrs. (27.4). there is significance to this :)

  • @c9castine I think its the amount of time Judith Mary was paralyzed....

  • Guys...... tool is awesome. Check this out. PLay viginti tres and this song at the same time. When virginti tres is over, immediately play Wings for Marie. They line up perfectly it's so damn cool.

  • Only song that has ever brought me to tears

  • "Ignorant siblings in the congregation, Gather around spewing sympathy, Spare me." - this made me think of maynard at his mother's funeral, and all the people come up to him saying "im so sorry for your loss". ive been there, and i know people mean well, but its so inane. i doubt many of these people even realized who they were talking to.

  • @c9castine its "ignorant "Flipants"

  • @InlandQuarter huh? the words i used are the same published by maynard on toolshed

  • This song is unbelivable , The lyrics , the vocals ,the instruments , and the bulid up of the whole song just sets the whole scene takes me to somewhere else , musical masterpice imo , hope people get the same feeling i get from this song :-) enjoy

  • @kiwinrg Not feeling anything that special from this song. The compositional whole seems insufficient to me.

  • @dujl Thats really unfortunate mate ,, oh well theres gotta be something out there for ya good luck ,,, each to there own ..542000 views 30 dislikes you are the minority mate ...

  • @kiwinrg I didn't say I disliked it. It's just not a favorite. I didn't find it that special. Like most of Tool's music I find it a bit dry and unsatisfying.

  • @dujl 1 why listen to it then ??? and two why comment on my comments ,,,do you think i actually care ... i like it alot of other people like it ,,, so whats up with the comments man, why bother ???

  • @dujl dickhead ......................

  • @kiwinrg What?

  • This song is unbelivable , The lyrics , the vocals ,the instruments , and the bulid up of the whole song just sets the whole scene take me to somewhere else , musical masterpice imo , hope people get the same feeling i get from this song :-) enjoy

  • Ok, found this out, what you need to do is this. Play "Viginti Tres" and "Wings for Marie [Pt, 1]" together, then play those two together whilst playing 10,000 days [Pt, 2], it is epic! Weird, it is in sync perfectly with all words surpassing each other perfectly, Maynard new what he was doing, but Tool wont emit this.. i think the three tracks together are called "Voltron". I did this by using Ableton, and putting each track in three audio lanes. then pressed play then.. i believe i passed out.

  • @TigerEyeJewel Been reading Cracked huh?

  • We as fans will NEVER decipher the mind of Maynard ......a creative genius is he......enjoy the song ......you idiots are hearing TOOL, listen to TOOL ....

  • @petey8019 That's pretty stupid to say. He writes about his mothers death and her 27 years of suffering. I don't think Maynard has just put a bunch of words together without meaning something to it. Just listening to the song and not understanding the story behind it seems very stupid to do. Once you hear the stories expressed into his songs it opens a whole other way into looking at them.

  • @chriswilliamstool You do realize that your stating that atheists "need an idol" and use their "imagination" to fabricate a belief is the penultimate contradiction and can be spun around and be pointed directly at Christianity, right? I don't give two fucks what people believe, but don't point a finger at others you don't like, when you really fall into the same category you've condemned them to. Don't be so hypocritical just to defend your beliefs.

  • tools music is about A GOD

dont these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around

  • all u people talking about religon are tools.

lol, if there is no god we have no meaning to life.

  • @1kurtcobaine god was the tool

  • @lordofengmar No offense, but you have no idea of what faith is. Because faith is the belief that God exists. So in your own words "Let people have what gives them peace of mind."

  • this song is a pure ritual

  • Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough! You're going home!

  • This song is amazing, and everbody can take from it what they choose no body has the "correct" interpretation of any song thats the beauty of music.

  • It's not about religion it's about the human mind atheism and religion have nothing to do with it

  • Comment removed

  • @MrFlopz if he could hear it lol... but watching tool alone is amazing. I got real close on one of their concerts and for the first time I could actually see a lot of emotion in their faces. But its not like they were advertising.

  • This is the single most powerful culmination of music and lyrics that I have ever heard.

Dark Side of the Moon has nothing on this baby.

  • @00roastedlampost00 I absolutely agree with you...its like a wave of warm air that washes over your body and engulfs all of your senses at once, mind blowing. <3 <3

  • @00roastedlampost00 I don´t think so. In my opinion both bands are on the same stage of genius!

  • @00roastedlampost00 Negative, this is great, but nothing, NOTHING, tops Floyd.

  • @00roastedlampost00 Dark Side of the Moon is a classic. Show some respect.

  • @dujl I have utmost respect. And in 20 years time when 10,000 Days is hailed as a work of untouchable and unquestionable mastery, there will still be modern artists bringing something new and spectacular to the table. At least, assuming Cowell et al don't have their wicked way.

  • @00roastedlampost00 Well, I'd say DSotM is undoubtedly better, as would critics. You can have your "opinion".

  • @dujl I certainly can :)

  • @dujl absolutely, I'm bored with this piece, it's not building or going anywhere, not enough to keep my interest anyway

  • @00roastedlampost00 try listening to this at the same time as viginti tres followed wings for marie

  • @notverykozy tried this with an editing program (to make sure theyre perfectly synced) and its INCREDIBLE. Never in my life have i heard of another band doing something so breathtaking. Its borderline haunting to listen to, knowing the raw emotion and awe-inspiring talent that went into this album. Goddamn. Tool. What a band.

  • @00roastedlampost00 I love both quite a bit. Honestly, I consider Tool today's Pink Floyd. I really couldn't pick a favorite. This song IS incredibly powerful, though.

  • @00roastedlampost00 Hold on there buddy, I love this song, and its an amazing piece of art. It just may be Tool's best song. But, better than Pink Floyd? Nay.

  • The teaching of christianity and most religions for that matter all but require you to spread your faith, and yes some of them get it wrong and "cram it down your throat" with a better than you tone. Hard to win souls that way. i'm a heroin junky, was athy, just got out of the detox clink, starting rehab, clean and sober 6 days now. its real easy to be religious now that i need that strength and motivation minute to minute. But it seems when everything is going good we forget who to thank.
