Jumped on Schillaci after that early race record and backed it the whole career. At one point I was in a wedding, listening to a race on headphones and hand signalling the results to the best man, haha.
Spoke to Oliver one time later and asked if that was the best horse he'd ridden but he went for Northerly.
Freedman brothers had a great period of glory. with all these big name horses, - 4 melbourne cup, 4 caulfield cup, 4 slipper, cox plate and more than 100 group one winners Super Impose- Tawriffic- Mahogany- Paris Lane- Doriemus
Fantastic horse...but the mighty Rough Habit lowered his colours in the Stradbroke Hcp. What an amazing period Freedman had during the 90's...Super Impose, Schillaci, Doriemus etc.
Wonderful horse. My best memory of him though was when got beat up in Queensland. He and Hot to Race went ballistic the whole way over 1400m and the horse i was on Seawinne was spotting them a good 10-15 lengths on the corner. She set sail after them on her lonesome and reeled them in... was a really sick win but yeah all in all, Schillaci was a star, a crowd favourite and won't be forgotten
hated this horse. my brother's favourite and every time he raced i backed against him.
his 2nd lightning win was awesome although the one i remember most was the george ryder because i said he had no hope running the distance. by the doncaster i'd had enough and refused to bet in his races.
He definetley was one of the most consistent horses ive ever seen but he was raced a hell of a lot. He raced in the sring , autumn , winter and then he was brought back for the spring again . . . no wonder the poor bastard ran 6th on oaks day.
Always tried his heart out though , what a great horse.
I was on him the day he almost won the Stradbroke, was in a lil Tab in Nth NSW and you would swear that everyone there was one him that day, they were all screaming for him to win, He was gutsy.

when D. Oliver says he had the biggest change of gears to top speed of any horse he has ridden. Obviously the horse could go.

He was versatile, he could lead or take a sit mid field. He did what few could do, take the sharp step up in grade and win.
I think his second Lightening was one of the best runs in a 1000mt sprint Ive ever seen.
