1990-Goodfellas 1991-Silence of the Lambs 1992-Howards End 1993-Schindler's List 1994-Shawshank Redemption 1995-Apollo 13/Se7en 1996-Fargo 1997-L.A. Confidential 1998-Saving Private Ryan 1999-American Beauty/Sixth Sense 2000-Traffic/Gladiator 2001-Fellowship of the Ring 2002-Two Towers/The Pianist 2003-Return of the King/Mystic River 2004-Million Dollar Baby 2005-Good Night, and Good Luck 2006-Departed 2007-No Country for Old Men 2008-Slumdog Millionaire 2009-Hurt Locker 2010-King's Speech
Ok, Shakespeare in Love is not a bad movie, but The Thin Red Line was the film that deserved all the awards that year, and I can't believe some shit like American Beauty won over The Sixth Sense
quinner111089: I think in general 1994 had some tough competition. Shawshank Redemption was AMAZING but Forrest Gump is as well. I agree that Raging Bull should've won...LA Confidential was really good but no contendor to Titanic even though its acting was far more advanced. Some Like It Hot---CLASSIC :)
Firstly, neither Atonement nor There Will Be Blood were better than No Country. The former two had more flaws and the Coens did a better job directing, not to mention the screenplay and the cinematography was superior. Don't get me wrong I truly loved There Will Be Blood, but No Country deserved and earned the Oscar.
If you wanna talk about snubs, then you should mention Citizen Kane not winning in 1941.
What about Saving Private Ryan in '98. Shakespeare in Love was a great movie, but it was no SPR. I'm going to assume that Harvey Weinstein did a something to make sure any Miramax made movie finished on top.
For me, the biggest Oscar travesty was Forrest Gump beating The Shawshank Redemption to the award. Other worthy winners would be Some Like It Hot (1959), LA Confidential (1997), Raging Bull (1980) & Goodfellas (1990)
ironicly im only see these ones: kramer, titanic, forrest....but not the other ones... i´ve heard that borkebak should won and i didn saw it.................and duh i saw juno yesterday a good one
Very good point ... there's definitely been a lot of choices that should have been different. One of the biggest being Saving Private Ryan, which should have won over Shakespeare in Love in 1998.
for me the two latest snubs in best picture are Crash beating the utterly superior Brokeback Mountain and No Country for Old Man winning agains such great movies as Atonement and There Will Be Blood wich were far better choices in my oppinion
The crash part destroys me

no shawshank redemption
:( :( :( :( :( :(
Yes, gump is a great film, but it has not had the affect in time and on people as shawshank as...
If only people had paid more attention to it when it was released..
the gump scene does look good in this, but imagine what it would look like with andy's rain scene..

Yeah, i was going to post that snub as well but i forgot..
I was going to check out apocalypse now and kramer vs. kramer, see if thats as big as a snub as people say.
Have you seen them?
mattbrew96 3 years ago
Oh yeah, have seen both, Apocalypse Now is a far better film. Another big snub.
fireice1971 3 years ago
It's a big shame the academy have only made some actually well chosen choices eg. Schindler's list, The godfathers, etc.
mattbrew96 3 years ago
Apocalypse Now is my faverite film of all time that should f won best picture.
