A lot of folks might hate me for saying this, but the little Southern steamers that NS is running in the new program can't even be compared to these beasts. Sleep now, 611 and 1218, maybe your times will come again someday...
@deloreanman14 : It was. Recordings can't capture the way that whistle vibrates your insides or the way you feels it's weight and power shaking the ground as it rumbles past. It's almost sensory overload.
i miss these engines running on the main line its good to see that they are on displaly so we can still see them. it would be nice to see them running again i live up is newyork they used to run the 1218 or 611 evrey couple of years through here. i dont think i havent seen the 1218 since the early or mid 90,s when it was in huntington wv with the 765 and 1225 for the nrhs in 91
@HaloCE14 there is hope NS is getting a new CEO soon and he loves steam and when hes officially in as CEO he says he will fight to bring back the stram program and have those two engines restored and back on rails doing what the did best in the past.

The 1218 could out pull the 611, but not in speed. Awesome vid. I'm sad that they aren't run anymore but I'm thankful they haven't been scrapped.
