I remember this night so clearly. There were 10 of us in a tiny closet holding a mattress up to the door all night. I remember being so frightened that our home was going to topple down the side of the hill that we were on. I will never forget the screeching sound of the roof peeling back from its foundation. It sounded as if a giant was ripping a tin can top off with his bare hands. The morning after the once rolling emerald peaks of STX were brown and stripped raw. There was chaos everywhere.
I'm the guy doing the weather alert, and yes, we stayed on until things got too hairy! As y ou can tell in the script, we were not told Hugo was going to be near as massive as it was. The story by Yvonne said be prepared to go three days with no water and power-9 months later some folks still didn't have any utilities. Most of the island was without power for three or four months! Btw...pardon the mullet!
@rebafan19 I'm more pissed at the owners deciding not to rebuild the station afterwards and simply gave the license back to the FCC like it was nothing.
From a little research on Hugo, the pieces were broadcast around 12 to 1 pm Sept 17, 1989. Do you happen to know around what time of the day and what day WBNB went out?
my friend talia justice was sleeping peacefuly in her bed while pregnant with a girl.... and less than 2 hours later, she went into labor.

Transmitter blew from water, tower fell down, studios were badly damaged. The station never went back on the air.

@rebafan19 Not sure really (since I haven't been or lived in St. Thomas myself to know that), but certainly feels that way.
