It's been used for hundreds of years, even before Spaniards came to Bolivia, moron. Coca leaves can be analogous to coffee drunk in the USA. It doesn't mean that Americans drink it to suppress their hunger, since it also suppresses hunger.

Yeah the Chinese were doing fine with opium until they had contact with Europeans, who made the Chinese addicted and dependent on it. Sort of like how the Aztecs had their own laws in regards to alcohol until the Spaniards took down their empire. Shortly after there was a dramatic increase in alcoholism reaching a point so high that the king had to order a decree to abolish alcohol for a while.
