  • lol the last part was funny like hell XD

  • if you want to ddos some one one do you want the local port or the remote port wich one is more important...?

  • A patch for linux was released withhin 2h after discovery !

nice vid espacially the awesome 3d screensaver.

  • I like the extra bit you dedicated to Windows 95.

  • I DISAGREE SIR~!

The reason that the modem is attached to a speaker is so you can tell if your connection is fucked up. I did this a lot until 2008 when I got road-runner internet. I managed to build client web-pages on a crazy super-speed of 41.2 kbps. If the sound wasn't attached to the speaker, when it failed to connect, I would have no fucking clue what was wrong.

  • Rofl at the Rant. Education + Entertainment = Win

  • Downvote for rant. Very immature!

  • ITS BEEN FIXED!!for any one running windows 95

  • Aww the good old days *_*, win95 was my first computer i used back in the days, I missed that old maze screen saver too (remind me of a game call "Doom" on "msdos"), and that annoying dial-up sound even on 98' when play dos games as well, pattern was a tip' for me @_@...

  • It was a pretty decent video, but then near the end where you just went on about other shit and started swearing, then the video became awesome. Good stuff.

  • If you ever spent time tweaking modem init strings you'd know why the speaker is important.

  • Anticlimatic? Really?

  • Bing of death

  • I remember using this while playing Diablo to kick people out of channels on battle.net to make myself the moderator. lol.

  • Off topic but Win 95 related. The funniest trick I remember is you can close the start button and make it go away. Click on the start button, then go alt-spacebar, then click close. Bye bye start button. The only way to get it back is to reboot. This only works on Windows 95 LOL

  • Rather stupid rants, "it would take like 5minuts to download 5Mib"

    Modem was 56Kibit thats 5Kib/second. 5*60 = 300kb/minute.

The current tech level cant be blamed on AOL..

The reason to hear the modem was simply to hear if there was anything on the other line. It was part of the technology.

  • ROFL @RANT !!!!!!!!!!!

  • The reason that they had the modem connection sound routed through the speakers was that the modems often did not handle exception conditions well at all. Often you would get a bad connection and the modem would sit there for minutes trying to train to the other modem. In those situations, it was good to be able to hear the constant attempt to train and cancel the connection attempt. Also, it was good to hear the connection attempt if someone else was on the line talking or using a modem.

  • Thumbs up for slashdot.

  • Why are you testing vulnerabilities on an almost two decade old software and then bitching about it? Why not Windows 7?

  • @KDALove Did you listen to the bit where he states that modern OS's are not vulnerable to this particular ping-of-death?

  • @hairyMuppet Then this all pointless isn't it.

  • @KDALove The vid is two years old, so it was valid when originally posted.

I assume you're here because of /. I suggest you read the full story.

  • IMCP eh? You call the rest "kids"?

  • Comment removed

  • WTF is "American Online"? And why did you open "America Online" while talking about it? :) (Just busting your balls for fun)

  • Moderately informative. The rant was the winner.

  • 6:42 That was my favorite as a kid too, I'd just sit there and stare at it for hours... Even customize it and then watch it again and again. Wish I could find it and get it to run on Vista...

  • Ahahaha, the windows 95 guided tour is funny. Great memories!

  • We used to do something similar around 95-97 i think. You could send packets to NT and it would blue screen, after the blue screen it would recover but internet would not work. We used this when the public terminals at the library was full. Poeple would leave as soon as "mIRC" stopped working. I know, its a shit thing to do. But it was fun then

  • IMCP, eh?

  • I 8====D Windows 95

  • dude i love the end...good ol' windows 95

  • Windows 95 <3

  • C++?

    Awesome, I could to that

  • At least people who try to make a batch file should Disguise the batch icon with another like Internet Explorer icon so when the person clicks on it than it starts the batch. When I stated to write test virus batch files in the day I used to always disguise it as the Browser icon.

  • 2:17 AM? dude...

  • Windows 3.1 ... Windows 95 ... WTF ????????

  • Hey, great information, and thank god there's still someone out here who knows what he's talking about, anyways, my friend has a website, but i want to like, crash it, just for fun, do you think you can help me out?

  • win 95 stuff was really funny...

  • you said IMCP but i see ICMP

  • Could you send me win 95

  • I tried the C program you showed, but my Win95 didn't crash! What version of Win95 are you running? My is version B...probably in this version the bug has been fixed

  • when you launched the ping of death my flash player plugin crashed, ftw

  • 7:27

Yes, the sound of the modem is annoying but it helped me be aware and prevent malicious dialer programmes from dialing numbers that I didn't even wanted that charged 10 dollars or more per minute. Also, the sound could be disabled in the hardware manager settings.

  • i like your videos it seems like to know lot of shit about computers :)

  • How do you download this?

  • let's see you crashing win xp/7 ah?

  • IMCP for ICMP @ 0:31 And you're talkin' about wannabe hackers. XD

  • This is some very interesting stuff thx for posting.

  • I love how in the related videos, there is "Ping Pong Death Match..." XD

  • 5 Stars.... That was the Bestt......

  • Great video!!! I just wish my computer science instructor would've had this style of talking with that "in-your-face" verbal attitude while I'm listening to the Beastie Boys', "You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party" on my portable Sony CD Walkman. I remember sitting there in front of my 50 lb fat-ass CRT monitor dazed and mesmerized watching that psychedelic 3-D Maze after hitting a few joints ("hitting a few joints" as in going to a dance club and enjoying my favorite beverage, ok?)
