Killing Machine was their best album next to UITE Live. Fucking killer metal right in their prime! Nobody beat them. There was also Maiden, Motorhead, and Saxon, but this kicked ass!
You all dont know what are you talking about.Megadeth hated jazz.Back in the late 80`s and 90`s Dave`s favourite sentence was "one time is a mistake, two times its jazz".Megadeth wanted to be the greatest TRASH band thats it.And Nick Menza`s FATHER was a jazz musician.Nick fuckin rocks though.HAIL JUDAS AND MEGADETH
its hard to fathum that priest had 9 good albums in a row, pretty amazing that a band could do that, and their not all similer sounding like madians good album run through the 80s, they all have a slightly different sound, just a great band
@Slater1488 I agree with that on early heavy metal. but if you listen to bands like Megadeth or Testament(mainly 1986 to present) you can hear there is something more. An exotic feel mixed with the syncopation and odd timings of jazz. But i would agree that all classic metal(Sabbath up through early thrash circa '83) is bassically more in your face rock n roll.
@THRASHFKINFILLETS the basis of this song can be traced through history back to John Lee Hooker's Boogie Chillen - you can hear it in there. The same song that Slim Harpo's shake your hips was based off which the Stones covered. The same blues lick can be heard in ZZ Top's La Grange and Chris Isaak's Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing. Music borrows and it borrows heavily.
@zenphil Actually they did play hard rock on several occasions. I would say that "Grinder," "Living After Midnight," "You Don't Have to be Old to Be Wise" off of British Steel are more hard rock than metal. The majority of Point of Entry was hard rock, and consequentially it sucked, and about half the tracks off of Screaming for Vengence and Turbo are also hard rock.
@thefateshavewarned i agree with you that judas priest always was a transition between hard rock/heavy metal in many albuns but POINT OF ENTRY SUCKS??? it's better than the superestimated British Steel, i can't agree with this.
@Austrelopitecus You are right, British Steel doesn't quite live up to the hype it is given. It is arguably the most overrated metal album of all time, but the reason I don't like Point of Entry that much is because it doesn't reflect what Judas Priest really was. I think the problem with Priest in the 80's was that they were caught between appealing to their fans and being commercially successful. The only Priest album of the 80's that I really liked was Defenders of the Faith.
@thefateshavewarned Hmm I see your point, maybe you're right about that thing "apeealing to their fans and being commercially successful". But well, my favorite album from Judas 80's is Defenders Of The Faith too ;P
@thefateshavewarned This is what Priest were all about, experimentation to make some dosh. From Rocka Rolla to Demolition to their latest two offerings (which as a life long fan I was dissapointed in) every one is different and that's why I love them. I actually LOVED British Steel, not POE and even worse, Turbo. Apart from Unleashed, my favourites are Stained Class, DOTF, Painkiller and Jugulator. All different, all damn good IMHO!
@tyrant1505 I'm not saying I'm against the band experimenting. They just don't have to do that and be overly commercial. One of my favorite metal bands, Fates Warning, whom I named my account after, has always been experimenting with their sound, but they had only two releases which I would consider commercial, 1991's Parallels and 1994's Inside Out. They have done some great experimental stuff and have always tried to be themselves, an area where Priest failed during the 80's.
This is heavy metal no doubt. Hard rock is more like kiss and AC/DC with like a mellow kinda sound, and mainstream alternative rock singing. this track has all those heavy metal palm muted riffs. And guitar solos.
I have nothing of value to add to these comments but I want to have something to say so badly and I have zero creativity, I know, I'll talk about the dislike button, look how many people pushed that button! Oh golly gosh, people will all see how witty and knowledgable I am then. If that don't work, I'll diss that little kid with the fucked hair that all the preteen girls are gaga for. Please love me!!!
@jkdsdmf actually never mind the other comment. watch?v=Ehvhz0josbo it's a performence of Metal Gods from 2009. listen at about 3:04 "Better be the SLAVES!". Rob's still got it.
@LPcustom76 Took the words right out of my mouth my good friend. He destroyed a lot of the 80's material, EVEN though excellent musically! Just an aside, I AM getting the skins fidget again, I played a Ludwig twin bass stainless steel in my younger days, an excellent sound with a snare to die for, any recommendations (I know, with a name like LP....!)? I do, however, like the sound of Rammstein's Schneider's snare on the last few albums and indeed live. (I believe he now plays Sonor )Ta matey!
@tyrant1505 rammstein?? no offense bro, but i am more into music. and i would recommend a set of premier maple traditional. you can't beat the feel of a good set of premiers.
@LPcustom76 Thanks for the advise, will give them a lick! Music? Ha,ha what ever floats the old boat eh. They're the only band of that ilk I'll give a bit of time for, but I DO like his recent groove and sound, conversely POE and Turbo......hmmmmm! BUT that's why I have loved Priest since my first live gig back on the Sin after sin tour, they constantly experiment. Binks it HAS to be said was (and indeed still is) nothing short pure class!
@LPcustom76 Not SEEN him, but heard some pretty impressive stick work on a track on the radio, I'm afraid I can't remember the bands name, and the DJ said at the end it was none other than Les Binks!!!! Question for you, do you know who played with Bruce Dickinson on his solo stuff? A session drummer I met on holiday said he was nothing short of amazing at a drum clinic he took in Manchester 3-4 years ago. Pretty sure it wasn't McBrain.
@catshumpcats3 Justin Beiber, Gaga, and various rap artists are proof of that. They're monotonous, bland, and repetitive. Anything of quality whether it's a book series, music, or T.V. series doesn't get the notoriety people think they deserve. And imo that's a good thing, because who wants too much of a good thing to be drained dry of its substance?
@Nocturnification I`d have to say its got elements of both Hard Rock & Metal Go to Glenn Tiptons website & click on his early life & influences, it is a good read
@Nocturnification: There are many songs in which that classification is not clear. That’s normal. But, in the 70´s Priest always (except for 74 Rocka Rolla) form part of the heavy metal bands. Of course, in our days, when some stupid and ignorant people hear that albums (Sand wings…, sin after sin, etc.) come with the idea that Priest were a Heavy metal band since 80´s.
