Hey Robbie, this is such a beautiful piece! Very good handling of the gouge! Specially, when you were making 2" wide veneers at 13:28 :) Anyhow, I was turning some olivewood today, and I was using this method of roughing...my lathe literally stopped---i guess I pushed too fast and with too large of cuts. I guess I got to get the VicMarc VL300.
@paloarteinc hanks Jake i have stooped this lathe many times i think i need something with a 3 HP motor well if i had the money i would have a one-way i wonder would Santa bring one
Great video Robbie. Those are super tips on aligning grain and the sort of information that will transform the look of a finished bowl. Thank you. Brendan.
@robbiethewood Yes, I'm the same way...that's why I have so much wood laying around here. I've got to get to turning more, but the past few weeks I've been sick a lot and not able to get things caught up. One more project to finish up for Christmas. It will be late, but there's nothing I can do about that.
hi Jim using the paper bag whit shavings works great but if you are putting them on the shelf no bag make sure you seal up the end grain whit some wax sealer or P V A works fine two the hole thing about wood is slow down the sap from leaving the blank
As a fairly new turner ( a little over a year) I'm confused as to which way to dry rough cut green turnings. Some bag with shavings and some just stick it up on the shelf. What works best, I would like to be able to avoid cracks from drying Thanks Robbie, Jim Haley
@IrishWoodDoctor yes dock the ivy was keeping it up yes its Farley dry you could probably finish this wood in a couple of days it was a young tree about 28 years
Great Video. I am fairly new to turning and and matching the grain will be a really nice addition to my turning. Thanks, Johnny

Nice bowl, Robbie. Isn't it good to find free wood like that, and you got a lot to work with on that find. Have fun!

Cant beat free wood, it even looks a bit dry already, must have been a dead standing tree. Doesnt look too bad at all rob.
